Bowie has at least 7 different genres / phases ......1 Early Bowie (Changes,Space Oddity, Life on Mars /. 2 Glam Rock Bowie (All of Ziggy Stardust ) 3 Soul Man Bowie (Young Americans, Golden Years) 4 Industrial Bowie Thin White Duke (Station to Station ) 5 New Romantic Bowie (Heroes, Ashes to Ashes) 6 Rock Star Bowie (Lets Dance, Modern Love) 7 Later Bowie BlackStar. Etc.... I could easily threw a few more phases and key songs in,...... Let just say He is one of the most creative musicians ever.

Bowie was the very epitome of genius. Performing live in front of an audience was where he felt most at home and as we can all see here, his relationship with his band and the crowd were always incredible. This was Berlin , so the references to the wall were very poignant for the entire audience. So sad he's no longer with us, but the fruits of his undoubted genius will be with us for ever, thank God. RIP David. 🙋‍♂

He burst on the scene in the '60s, rode out the '70s with no holds barred approach to life just as the '70s were, guided us through the '80s with elegance and style, was a stable turn-to performer in the '90s, gave us consistency through the '00s, entertained us even in the '10s and the whole world went to shit after he died, proving he and Petty were holding our musical world on their shoulders, with no one taking their place after their passing. He is missed, and yet another legend to look forward to hearing, jamming with, and being elevated by in the afterlives.
'Fame' is a song with a grove that will tickle your bassist fingers and your soul-filled heart.

hi millie. david bowie was one of the greatest ever and his rabbit-hole is very deep. and he wasn´t called "the chamaeleon of rock´n roll" for no reason. lot´s of stuff to hear and to suggest. "suffragette city" or "ziggy stardust" perhaps. my favourite ones are "sweet thing" and "big brother", cause they are on the first bowie album I bought. He moved to West Berlin, in 1977 to escape drugs in Los Angelas, and got his fellow music friend Iggy Pop, of The Stooges to join him, attempt to sober up -in the walled in City. (yes they traveled by train into the USSR, through Poland. David and Iggy recorded some in France and Switzerland too between (1977-'80). The line "two lovers, standing by the Wall" was what he saw from Hanna studio, in West Berlin (one of his production team, married, having an affair -Bowie would later reveal) Heroes, defying The Berlin Wall! (I went to West Berlin in 1985, and again in 1990, and 1993 so saw the Wall up, and torn down. I became a fan of Bowie in 1980, after "Ashes to Ashes" -and treasure his Berlin albums. Iggy Pop recorded some of his quality solo work at that time. When U2 was at a creative impasse at the end of 1989, they decided as fans of Bowie, and their current producer Brian Eno (who had been in Roxy Music), who produced three albums for Bowie, and Pop, and Talking Heads, etc. U2 went to Berlin, as it was going to rebuilding, German unification, at Hansa Studios, to record "Aching Baby" in 1990.

Hi, Millie! If you want to hear David Bowie's range and that bluesy feel in his voice, go to "Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing (Reprise)" studio version. Get the one without pauses between songs, it's a bit shorter, like 8 min and something. The live versions to this one are not that good because Bowie was going through a rough time with his cocaine addiction and his voice was rather hoarse during that tour. Another bluesy one from the same album is "We Are the Dead". They are from the album "Diamond Dogs" and David did a lot on that album: vocals, guitars, saxophone, production.

    Okay, no hate... 🥰🥰🥰
"Space Oddity", this song you have to hear
And of course, POLICE came later, but Sting is still great.
I recommend you "Under Pressure", David duet with Annie Lennox, concert "Live Aid", 1992.

I fell in love with Bowie the first time I saw him live in the mid 70s. When my daughter was an infant- months old, the only thing that would calm her down was his song Let’s Dance. I took her to see him when she was about 6. We had the best time. Check out more…my favorite is FASHION, but he has so many great songs. Suffragette City, Jeanie, Fame…so many. ❤️U Millie! ☮️❤️😎 and rock n roll. My personal favorite band is YES, followed by Alice In Chains. You are a beautiful soul.

Millie, Millie, Millie. You listened to David Bowie two weeks ago, Space Oddity.
I know. After listening to so much music we tend to sorta lose our place.

Before even getting to the music, I am VERY impressed that you are doing the British pronunciation of his last name, as BOW-E -- the BOW, as in the Bow Wow of a dog. Over here in the states it was always Bow-ie, as in BOW (as in a bow & arrow, & EEE)

I still find it astounding so many younger people have missed these gigantic songs of the past-----Try Absolute Beginners also in a smallish venue which he is very good at. The span of his work in mood is very very wide ,, Absolute Beginners remains on the lighter side..

So many people didn't "get" Bowie because from one album to the next, his style & sound changed. But that fact is exactly why he is now considered a musical genius. Even with his popular songs, he re-arranged them on live concerts. As he said himself, "I get bored easily". Millie, watch this video when Bowie was in his 50s...he looks back on his life. A quiet song, but I love the video. czcams.com/video/gfOKDB0ChQk/video.html

The "WALL" in this is the BERLIN WALL
And the song is about two fictious lovers seperated by the wall seperating East and West Berlin before the USSR collapsed.
    Wikipedia:
"An art rock song that builds throughout its run time, "'Heroes'" concerns two lovers, one from East Berlin and the other from the West. Under constant fear of death, they dream they are free, swimming with dolphins. Bowie placed the title in quotation marks as an expression of irony on the otherwise romantic or triumphant words and music. Directly inspired by Bowie witnessing a kiss between Visconti and singer Antonia Maass next to the Berlin Wall, other inspirations included a painting by Otto Mueller and a short story by Alberto Denti di Pirajno."
