    Its impressive enough that he plays with such technique but what is equally just as impressive is how he hardly has to look at the guitar when he plays. He is amazing!

    I've been searching for this for months, without knowing the name of the guitarist! All I had to help me find it was the phrase "black guy covers stairway to heaven".
    I saw it years ago on TV, and wanted to show a friend how awesome it is.
    Well I got here, and it was worth the effort :)

    Yeah..good old Stanley's been around and about since 1986..I have used his music on VHS to DVD dubs for my ATV helmet cam trips and journeys thru the Arizona desert...Imagine cruising down a desert wash at 50mph dodging cactus and rocks..listening to this song.

    Technically awesome! Deeply moving! I remember when my best bud turned me on to this guy that played in the NYC subways at one time. There are a lot of guys that play this style now, although I haven't seen any get as deep and soulfully as Stan. I remember the 'upstanding critics' at the time doubted that he could pull off convincing performances live with a real band behind he as he was a loner.
    Thanks Orbs2009 for this

    While I like Stanley's tone and unique technique a lot, I don't think arts is a competition for him to be the "pinnacle of sound" or to "beat the living crap out of all other guitarists". Not to mention that a completely different sound is sought for in classical guitar, hence the tone production is completely different so Stanley (again, as much as I like him) cannot be "the pinnacle of sound you can hope to achieve" for classical players. Thumbs up to Stanley's performance here:)

  • @elfhermie
    @elfhermie Před 13 lety

    While I really like this guy, after listening to a bunch of his songs, I understand why sometimes simple and less can sometimes be more. Songs that have changes in them pace and complexity/simplicity wise, and not just tons of notes bumblebeeing around the basic notes that count, are sometimes more emotionale than really technical and or flashy multi note playing. This kind of playing is more to be admired for the playing skill. I wish he would lay low for bits and then kick in more often.

    @mybigcheese11 Před 12 lety

    its just yo said the "proper way" which also could mean the right way..so to me it seemed like you was saying tht he wasn't playing it right and that he is playing it wrong and thats not the way people should play the guitar. and wha i mean wat your comfortable with is tht Stanley might be comfortable playing like tht (so there is really no proper way) do yo get wat im saying.

  • @BassThumper777
    @BassThumper777 Před 12 lety

    I'd be rather careful to make such broad sweeping statements. For one, a little overdrive makes for a great sound if it's not overdone. And honestly Stanley's clean tone isn't very good at all. Sounds like his pickups are a bit more powerful than necessary, so it's over-trebly, without much body. Stevie Ray Vaughan has excellent clean tone in Riviera Paradise. And George Benson has great clean tone pretty much always. And both players are fantastic in basically all ways that you mentioned.

  • @BassThumper777
    @BassThumper777 Před 12 lety

    Difficulty of technique in no way makes one superior to anyone else. It's the music, not the method. And I struggle to see how pedal use figures into any of that. Building one's sound includes those very elements, and otherwise depends only on your amp, instrument, and fingers, not making you any better (solely) either. As a rule wide-reaching statements are dangerous to make because they're usually wrong due to their very nature. And you still haven't addressed his bad tone: your main point.
