  • Welcome back to The Iron Sights Podcast. In this After Dark episode, I am joined by JP and Jacob Turner AKA “Jake The Hunter”. Jake is known for his wicked speed and success as a USPSA Competition Shooter. Even though Turner is only 19, he’s been able to become a standout for his speed and accuracy in competitive shooting. In this episode, he describes life before USPSA and how he got started in the sport. After outshooting a cop in a firearms simulation room when Jake was 12, he got his first semi-automatic pistol and started shooting everyday on his family ranch. Just two years later, Turner entered the world of competition and hasn’t looked back. Tune in for insight into Jake’s background, his secrets for improving his speed & accuracy as well as a back and forth dialogue on the pros and cons to USPSA, IDPA and competition training.

The big difference is idpa is training for defensive situations you start with the gun concealed by some type of cover garment a vest, unbuttoned shirt or just your shirt over top of the pistol next you can iwb or owb holsters and must actually retain the pistol, shooting has to be done from cover and targets must be shot in tactical priority and in tactical sequence if tge targets are equal distance from you and reloads must be done from cover it basically a competition that helps training for real life situations while ipsc/uspsa is more a gamer style of shooting just owb holsters with minimal retention that you wouldnt actually use in real life and target neutralization is run and gun shooting the targets in watever order gets you done fastest both forms take accuracy seriously just the way each scores accuracy is different , ,I personally love them both they both different objectives can learn alot from each
