Rammed Earth and Tire Wall

  • Making a Rammed Earth and Tire Wall is physically taxing! Rammed Earth and earthen homes and walls have existed since antiquity some are thousands of years old!
This technique is used for constructing foundations, floors, and walls using natural raw materials such as earth, chalk, lime, or gravel. In our case we added tires and used our natural Caliche rocks, calcic soils ( our dirt is like a limestone blend) to fill the tires to begin our wall. The nice part is that it didn't cost us anything for the supplies we used. This really is taking recycling, and up-cycling to the next level!
Rob's shoulder, elbow and low back have been yelling quite loudly for a massage! We are at the beginning stages of creating this wall. Originally it was going to be a junk project but a project like this is worthy of having it's own video. This has also been one of the most difficult video for me to edit as well. I hope you enjoy our video. Feel free to commnent.
Rob and I are in our sixties and have wanted our own piece of land for many years we are new to homesteading and prepping. I'm sure we will post most everything we are up too on Blissful Acres our desert paradise. Things like th solar system Rob researched and put together, building our greenhouse, fixing the well house, our home, sewing, cooking and even a video or two about our 1966 bus conversion Sedona Synergy. Looking forward to meeting you! Feel free to comment!

Hi CC actually I planted sweet potatoes and two tires stacked on top of each other and indirectly that's what gave me the idea for the wall. Sweet potatoes were planted too late and winter hit too soon, so no sweet potatoes. The wall has been back breaking. We've gotten quite a bit of rain so far this year. Too bad we didn't have our rain system setup we only get about 12 inches a year. Cactus will grow in just about anything as long as it's in Sandy soil. One of these days I'll take pictures of our cactus if they survive in the pots over the winter. You surviving the weird weather we are having? Hugs
