Have you thought of living off grid?
Rob and I (Susan) have dreamed of having our little piece of paradise and now in our mid-sixties we live 100 percent off-grid via solar power. Our goal is to have a self-sustaining homestead. Ella who is 9 and is our youngest grandchild loves to make videos when she comes to visit, she even has her own playlist here on our channel. Check her out.
Are you interested in what it is like to live off grid?
Join us in our adventure as we explore solar cooking, or create an Air-Crete fence using tires. Maybe your interests lay in Building a Cluck Cluck Chicken Resort w/swimming pool and hiking path for chickens. Do you like to play in the mud forming adobe bricks or cob and building a permaculture garden/food forest with a rain catchment system.Maybe you love glorious sunsets and panoramic mountain views that bring peace and harmony for mind, body and soul. If so, you have come to the right place!

Wild Yeast, & Sour Dough Starter Equals YUMMY BREAD!
Trying my hand at making and using wild yeast to make a Sour Dough Starter. The bread made from the discard of both the Gluten Free and All Purpose Flour made a delicious bread with a hint of sour dough flavor! So excited! Today is day 5. Just might make a fresh homemade Pizza in our wood fired Pizza Oven with the discard for today. WASTE NOT WANT NOT!

Wind and Fire! Close to Off-Grid Homesteads in the Dry Desert. This was our first up close and personal experience with wind and fire in the seven years at BLISSFUL ACRES Off-Grid Desert Homestead! Scary. All it would have taken was for the wind to change and we could have lost our home, and animals.

Part1 Indoor Off Grid Set Up How many Turken Transylvanian Chicks did we Get?
zhlédnutí 50Před 3 měsíci
Raising 24 hour old baby chicks Off-Grid using traditional methods can be challenging. Keeping them warm enough was of prime concern even in the Arizona desert in April. Hot water bottles and hot water in plastic jugs was an option except they cooled quickly. Heated bricks covered in cloth was an option but maintaining them would be kind of like a 2 a.m. bottle feeding. Deciding to do things a ...

#RecyclingANIMALFEED BAGSIntoSHOPPING BAGS #shortsvideo Recycling ANIMAL FEED BAGS Into SHOPPING BAGS are a great recycled project because they are NOT biodegradable. These tote bags are a great way to keep them out of the land fill. I am even thinking I just might make some into aprons. We also uses feed bags as a way to cover items to protect from the weather. Today we had our FIRST Pecan Harvest & Pizza for dinner. I discovered that pecans have an outermost green covering. is that covering good for making a tincture, or feeding to the pigs and chickens. I also learned that for me pizza isn't really pizza without mozzarella! We really like our Woodburning CRU Oven!

Gardening in the Desert Heat and Hot Dry Wind One Way to Retain Water
I didn't mean your NN's were the ugglest i mean NN's in gen, you do have some of the nicest i have seen! I am trying to find some solid black because i hear that they are less likely to get attacked by hawks!
@@victorbunch7725 Ours are in a huge run. I would call Murrey McMurray and see if they can help. Never thought about predators and camouflage . That makes sense! We have a couple of chicks that are mostly black, and was worried that they would be more affected by the heat. THANKS Victor for your comments! 🤗🙃😉
Those naked necks are the uggyest chicken i have ever seen! But are great egg layers! My last one just went missing not ever a feather can i find she was the smallest hen in the flock & layed the biggest egg about once a mo she would lay an egg bigger thna a duck egg!!
@@victorbunch7725 Aww, here in the desert they are doing well in triple digits. So sorry your chicken disappeared. I always feel sooo sorry for the chicken that lays those huge eggs 🥚! 😆 We now have 80 chicks 50 for the freezer and future eggs.
Yeah I felt sorry for her, I swear those dang eggs had resting notches on them, she even had to take a couple days off! 🐔
@@VictorBunch I bet she did ! 😆
the bread looks delicious
@@homesteadingwithsadie It was really great for French toast! Hopefully the flavor gets stronger as time goes by.
You certainly don’t seem to be to sure of yourself. You said a couple of cups of rice to 1 cup of water? That can’t be right! It just can’t!👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
@jimdavidson3345 Major oops Jim. Thanks for catching that Jim! Thanks again! I usually use a one to one ratio. More liquid if I am using dehydrated meat or veggies. By the way I did correct it in my pinned comment 4 years ago. Now will recheck the description.
Oh my gosh Susan, your trees have really grown! Your day 4 bread looks so yummy!😃 I need the gluten free if I eat bread👍 Love your knoweledge as always❣️
@@tortugalisa4748 Lisa I have been mixing the both the gluten free and red wheat sour dough discard together with the all purpose flour to make my bread and have had NO side effects! Wish you were here when we picked mulberries! We had plenty to give away and for all the animals too!
Wow I'm so glad the winds were blowing the other direction because you guys really get the high winds there! I thought for sure the firetruck was coming to tell you to prepare to evacuate in case the fire changed direction. Glad your friend was safe too Susan🥰
@@tortugalisa4748 The fire really made me think. If it had turned our way all of our animals would have been lost. So glad we got to help out and redirect the fire truck. A Scary few hours that's for sure!
can you post the link tothe things you need to make this ? ty ty
Yummy bread for sure. You got some nice plants growing over there. Thanks for the share!
Thank you. Now to get the black berries under controll! Oh fun times ahead.
How do you make compost tea from this?
Hi great question! We pour some of the dry mix into a our 55 gallon container of smelly compost tea goodness. To use we fill a bucket and pour to fertilize the the plants.
I am interested in making wild yeast also! My fruits arent ready yet, other than cherries. I let grow on purpose, a wild grapevine. The mini grapes are so delicious! Grapes are notorious for having wild yeast on them! And the leaves are notorious for Tannin to keep pickles crisp! Stuffed grape leaves is "a thing", over in Europe. Just saw a jar of them at the Store!
HI! We have yeast in our freezer but if we can make wild yeast there is no worry about running out. Grapes are supposed to be great for wild yeast. Believe it or not so are Juniper berries. My cherry tree didn't survive our desert weather so we won't replace it but our grapes were doing good until the free range cattle decided to eat them down to nubbins. Hopefully the new ones thrive. Grape leaves are so useful! Thanks for visiting and sharing! Have a beautiful day my friend!
Bread looks good!
I made sloppy Joe's last night and put it over the bread. Today when we ate a slice we noticed a nice hint of sour dour flavor! So excited! 😂
Nice! 💜💜💜 AunrieEllen 👍🏽
Thank you!❤ Today's discard will become pizza! Rob keeps hinting 😮 He even grated the cheese 😂!
Just wanted to know how to rehydrate rice. I found your video. New sub here!
Thank you! So glad you found us and my video!
The big ones look like Wasabi Radishes. They get very big. My Sister just planted some in West Valley. back to Our Roots HomesteD showed us theirs. 💜💜💜 Love you🤟🏽 AuntieEllen
Glad y'all are safe.
HI! As a crow flys the fire was about a mile away from us. Guess we need a water source like a couple 250 gallon totes by the animals and trees.
Thanks for sharing. Thumbs up 👍🏻
We were so lucky. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Did your dragon fruit ever bloom. I cut mine back. They say cutting the tips off will make it fruit. Now I'm waiting to see if it will do something.
HI! No it NEVER has.
Let me know if cutting the tips work for you. Have a great day!
Glad it was blowing away from you.
PHEW! Now to clear and drag the living spaces on the property..
Glad you two are safe!
Us too! So glad the wind didn't turn on us.
Very nice video
Thank you for commenting. Learning and practicing new skills is important . Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for sharing! I find that when I add the menthol crystals I get a bitter flavor. Is that normal?
Hi! I have not noticed a bitter flavor. I add it at the very end and stir until the fumes go away. I have scorched the cough drop mixture but used it anyway and that didn't taste too great.
I love beans, refried beans, bean soup, beans in soup…. I can see lots of possibilities!
Great ideas! Love them. I pretty much ran out after refried beans and sprinkling the powder in cake batter. 😆
My husband loved your ideas too! Now I am wondering what else we can do. 😄
Did you ever finish building this house! I would like to see the finished house Thank you very much.
We quit. Backing work especially for us old folks! 😆 Eventually we want to make an aircrete shed.
Really great old school kit and skill. Appreciate you friends. Thanks for the share!
It is so nice to have you visit again. Your family has been missed! I am fussing with homemade mulberry/pomegranate jam. No video. If it turns out I will make a video. Wish you were our neighbors you would be my tasters! 😆
Cute and noisy😍
They sure are!
how are you doing as veggies patch or fruit trees and fruits? can you manage fruits and veggies? I have been busy and not inclined to do videos anymore. A bit down on how the world is going. Here in Australia the changes are pretty fast, we are fighting cashless society, lot of protests this weekend and so on. We see lot of what we saw in the 60th and younger generations protesting against wars etc...what is next? who knows, keep safe and well xx
Wow, they are big! take care xx
The turkey eggs this year are huge! I am making pickled eggs with them. My daughter Desiree will be here for a visit in a couple weeks for my son's wedding. They Love pickled eggs!
Cute! got 3 rescued cats myself, they are good company, cheers xx
Hi CC! I've missed you! Hope all is good with you and yours. Blessings!
Hello, lovely chicken coop, safe against predators. Take care xx
This coop is the isolation coop in case one gets sick or injured.
I like turken chicken's. I have a few in my flock.
Bryan out here in our area not many people even know Turkins exist let alone how great they are in our desert environment.
They are so cool. There are a lot of them. Do they produce good eggs?
HI! Great eggs layers. The eggs are usually large. Soon we will be swimming in eggs! 😆
They are so cool. I’ve never seen anything like them before.
This is a hardy breed. Great for here in the desert heat due to less feathers. They also do well in snow country. I am wondering when we can get them in their out door pen.
Love it! 💜💜💜
These babies are something else!
No Notifications since we last talked. Came to see what happened 💜💜💜 AuntieEllen
Hi! Just starting to record and post videos again since my last 3 skin cancer surgery. We are in slow mo mode. 😆 🤣 😂! So happy to see you! Wraping you in hug Hugs!
While they're getting so big so fast
They are getting huge! Soon they will fill the whole space!
Well look at all them beautiful chickies
They are so precious!
What a great idea but unable to see how you made it as the screen went tiny.
I know my phone did me in. 😆 Will be laying more bags. They are great!
Awwww, darn it did get way too small! Just rewatched it. Thanks for letting me know!

GOOD MORNING Susan and Rob! Hope y'all are having a great day today 💚💚💚
HI! So nice for you to stop by! Hope you all are doing great!
Ema🎉❤
Ema wants the baby chicks to be her best friends. 😆 Thanks for commenting!
That’s a good ratio for meat and laying birds that you plan on with this batch. It’s important to get birds that are good with random extreme temps. Great stuff! Take care you guys, Annette 🌺
Baby chicks are so fun. It’s around 10 days since you got them today I wonder how they are doing? Next video!
That's a lot of chicks.
HI! They sure can eat! Cheap and peck for more food. 😆 Ema the dog loves to watch her babies!
Great job well done they're so cute. Thanks for sharing
Hi! Even our dog loves watching them.
Thank you so much, Rob.
You said chicken treat. Not Emma treat
I know right!?! Emma just has to try a bit of all the food the other animals get! Silly dog!
