    The genius of having a 'good guy', who is loud, erratic and who's life is always falling apart, come up against a 'bad guy' who is quiet, level and who's life is under complete control, blew my mind.
    And to show clearly which side of the law each of them is, when Vincent hugs that grieving mother, and when Neil mercilessly kills people when they are in his way, sets up the diner moment perfectly, opposite ends of every spectrum but not your stereotypical goodies and baddies, just like real life; nobody is all good and nobody is all bad, the character development of this film was worthy of an Oscar alone.

      And you kind of tell that Neil had a hard life because Vincent holds his hand by his dying side so he wasn't completely bad. The only fucked up thing he did was abandoning the girl. Vin and him were bros.

The only downer is Val Kilmer being credited on the poster and DVD inlay. Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and.... Val Kilmer???? That's not on. I don’t think HEAT ever did get the kind of recognition and appreciation from the media, Hollywood, or critics that it earned. The crazy talented ensemble that meshed so well on screen and demonstrated so much fluidity with such dynamic characters.
    The score was so deeply embedded in the cinematography that it perfectly told the story, with, or with lack of, emotion. The direction of scenes kept you in the story from one aspect to another, not losing you in minuscule details. This is a very under appreciated movie that should not be recreated/re-visioned, although yes, it is a remake of its own. It was perfected, and it is a cinematic experience that I am thrilled to hear others admire.

    Such a great film. I was in college at the time. One night I was writing a very long term paper. I needed a break. I knew the theater at the mall near where I went to school had a midnight showing of 'Heat' that night. I took a break. Went to the theater, and watched this midnight showing of the film. There were maybe a total of 15 people in the theater, and I went by myself. I had a soda, some popcorn, and a box of Raisinets (lol), and was able to just sit back and watch this amazing film. The shootout in downtown LA is maybe the best shootout scene I have ever seen. I eventually became an editor for TV and film, worked in Hollywood for 7 years, and really learned about film making. It's hard to ask talents like De Niro and Pacino nebulous, philosophical questions like these because they are so good at what they do that they just have sort of an innate understanding of the human condition. So it's hard for them to break down their performances in the way they're being asked sometimes. They want to give an answer that is satisfying, but it really can be answered simply by saying... instinct. They just have it. It's sounds counterintuitive, but I have directed a little bit. Just a very little, lol. I always tell actors the same thing which is... DON'T ACT. That's really the trick... it's to not act. Draw on whatever you can to make the performance not a performance. Use whatever you can to make it real. Anyway, funny side note. My grandmother was someone of some wealth, and some fame herself. She was a Broadway actress of some note in the 20's and 30's. Eventually, my family sold her house just north of New York City... after she was old and moved to another part of the country... to none other than Al Pacino. He also owned the house next door which he was living in at the time with his girlfriend who was Kathleen Turner. My mother and aunt were the ones that had to meet with him to do the closing. They met with him and Kathleen Turner multiple times, and said they were both so geeked on cocaine it was amazing. LOL. But they were very nice. lol. So the story about Pacino's character dabbling in drugs on the side is pretty funny to me. I am quite sure De Niro and Pacino left such things behind them decades ago. But it's funny nonetheless. Anyway, great film, and an interesting video. Just sharing here. Sorry for being so long winded. By the way... Pacino eventually sold the house to Diane Keaton, and she turned it into an art deco nightmare. LOL.

Not much appreciation for a long story-tell with deep character arcs and development like Heat. Even some of my younger friends iv gotten to watch labeled it boring and I’m only in my mid 30’s. Heat...what a great movie. De Niro seems totally out of place talking about his work. He did it, but he can't talk about what he did coherently. Probably happens with all geniuses. If someone had asked Picasso or Beethoven about describing how they worked, they probably wouldn't know what to say. They just do as opposed to talk, which is what us mere mortals do.

    • @mbsm5094
      @mbsm5094 Před 7 lety +5

      Talking about Picasso and Beethoven in the same sentence obviously shows how much ignorant you are. Picasso was a disgrace for the evolution of art. He, Duchamp and Malevitch completely ruined everything but the saddest thing is that idiots like you are amazed by this bullshit art who is just legitimate by art dealers in order to make billions. Contemporany art is not about creating something smart but about making a quick ugly piece of art signed by a corrupted artist who will sell it for a great price, so the buyer through the years will make a huge profit because of the quotation. Look at that imbecile of Andy Warhol, he said he doesn't give a fuck about art all he wants is to creat the most he can so he will be able to sell a lot of "garbage" and earn a lot of money.
      I laugh so much when blinded people like you start talking about art in order to sound smart but they really don't understand a fuck about what going on since more than a century now. Picasso a genius… what a sheep you are.

      i dont agree with your generalized assumption that geniuses such as beethoven or picasso cant explain the mindset behind their work, many great artists are good because they know how to explain their ideas into their pieces and verbally as well.
      But MBSM is even worse in generalizing what art is and what is not. he is the type of person who is too shallow in art knowledge that representative art is only art, while in fact ppl didnt give a shit about paintings when photography was invented.

    • @mbsm5094
      @mbsm5094 Před 7 lety +2

      Dear AirKangLocker, I was born in the art field, I saw with my own eyes what's wrong with this business. I have a degree in History of Art at the Sorbonne University in Paris which means I personally saw how the institutions works. I'm "the type of person who is too shallow in art knowledge"? I really don't like to insult people, but you're pathetic.
      Everything changed when photography was invented. That's exactly why I said that Marcel Duchamp was with Malevitch one of the first (and most famous) artists to introduce the concept of "abstract art" and "conceptual art" which defined the beginning of the end. Use your brain, and you'll understand that my first comment is directly related to your last sentence.

    • @AirKangLocker
      @AirKangLocker Před 7 lety

      i agree that contemporary art has its share of problem with the business side, but at the same its hard to take it seriously when you basically just say FUCK YOU to the entire field with a generalization based on a couple of controversial artists. i may have agreed with you more if you put more logics than emotions into your statement.
      The difference of explaining what's wrong with hollywood and and just blantantly saying FUCK HOLLYWOOD would be similar as well
