Labuan is a Duty Free heaven for alcohol and cigarettes, chocolate...and Labuan is a port for vessels, off shore and rescue boat...and ship repair/daily supplement. Sat and Sun usually fulky booked, it is very difficult to find a vacant room. Many sailor and engineers gone aboard for Pub, Club, and looking for beddies 🤭

Sabah and Labuan was experiencing bad weather the past week.
Too bad you were not able to see the beautiful sunrise and sunset on this island.
And there are few famous spots and remains in this island that show the end of the WW2.
The War Memorial, the surrender point, the coal mine entrance, the ammunition storage etc...
As well as the nearby island getaway for snorkeling and diving.

Those planes are ATR-72s, they're actually quite common in Europe. They're made in France and Italy. if you're looking for places to visit.. I can't think of many - there's The Chimney (a museum), and there's beaches all over the place. Also a wartime cemetery. If you like spectacular rocks you could try Bethune Head in the north of the island, and they're some interesting stuff in the south, too, but maybe you'd have to be a geologist to appreciate the stuff in the south (turbidites). As far as the geology goes - it's a world class destination for sedimentary rocks. Fossils, sedimentary structures, etc., a great place for teaching.

Heyy, Im a local from labuan. Yes it's indeed a small island. So what did most of the local do are actually goin to beaches, which is usually active on the weekends, saturday and sunday. You can also choose to do sports, such as hiking trails, picnics and bike ridings ( this you could find it in seasport😂. it's a so-so facility i would say). And most of y'all know that it's a taxes free spot, so yes people would buy chocolates, cigg and even alcohol beverages from here. I would also like to add, the alcohol drinks here are cheaper as compared to other places. So, you might wanna try out the night live in labuan. Have some drinks and just enjoy.😆 Yes, it's a small island, not much to do here with only 1 mall ( the Financial park) and etc. Anyway I'm still a proud labuanian, love it. It's a small island to distress from the busy cities, my home🥰 🥂

Labuan is definitely not a holiday or tourist destination. It’s an offshore financial centre offering international financial & business services. It’s where the ultra rich people of Asia park their money coz it’s a tax free haven and also a duty free island. East Malaysians will usually go there just to buy cheap booze, chocolates & ciggies 😂 Most of the Labuan locals and expats living there are working in the oil & gas and financial sectors.

Labuan is a small island (92 km²) but bigger than Putrajaya (49 km²). It was made into an offshore financial hub in the 1990. The best thing to do there, in my opinion, is to walk along the Tanjung Kubong trail from the chimney museum and enjoy the geological formations along the sea up to the tip of Tanjung Kubong. Another fun thing is to take a speedboat/ferry to various destinations such as Menumbok, Brunei, Kota Kinabalu, Lawas, Sipitang, and Limbang. Beaches are not at their best because of offshore oil and gas activities. Many people visit Labuan in search of cheap alcohol.

I wonder if you can still get the duty free cigarettes in the shops... I've been in Labuan several times for work (field trips with students - the geology of the island in incredible, especially on the northern and southern coasts - I have lots and lots of photos from back then). Labuan was (probably still is) "duty free" (like Langkawi) so chocolates, cigarettes etc. are much cheaper. Most of the cigarettes were brand you never heard of in your life (my favorite was "Memory" brand) and were ultra cheap (though not as cheap as at the Tatau night market) - maybe RM10-20 a carton of 12 boxes. Since I don't smoke you probably wonder what I bought them for - I guess it was more of a joke than anything - I had an Australian friend who smoked like a chimney, he'd buy Mild Seven cigarettes in KL and they were getting more and more expensive every year. So I'd bring him cartons of these off-brand cigarettes from Labuan every year (and we all sat around and made sure he actually smoked them). And I asked him one day, when someone gives you Memory brand cigarettes, what were you supposed to say? "Thanks for the Memories". He gave me a really dirty look but couldn't help grinning... 🤣🤣🤣

Labuan is not to be compared to Langkawi despite both are so-called tax haven. I've been there, and a quick 2-3 hrs round the island on a mbike is more than enough. Langkawi is well-curated for travellers. Best to focus on Sabah and then Brunei before head to Indonesia.

Labuan is a very small island, even smaller than Singapore. Most people come to Labuan for work purposes and to study (Labuan Matriculation College). But, the good side of Labuan is that you can buy liquor, beer and chocolates for cheap since it is duty free.

Better you go Sabah or Terengganu coz they have a nice beach, for relaxing and more cultural exploration.. Labuan is a working place island, and it’s good for shopping because of tax free. And talking about the weather, the northern side having a bad weather recently compared to our Kuching side that always in summer. Anyway, have a safe trip ya..

That was not a short flight Ken, not even close to being short. The shortest Commercial Flight is between two Islands off the coast of Scotland. The Islands are part of the Orkneys Group and are called Westray and Papa Westray.
The flight from take-off to touchdown is 80 SECONDS.
The distance is 1.7 miles (2.8 kms). Note- It is a Regular Commercial Flight.
30 Minutes is not short, London Heathrow to Manchester is only 35 minutes and is approx 200 miles. I didn't see anything that would create a desire to visit that Island and I can understand you not being inclined to return, I think it's probably mostly Local People only.

Welcome to Labuan Mr Ken Abroad. You are..I might say a very brave person to be in the twin otter flight. Not me Ken. 😁. Maybe because I can see both sided outside from the windows.
Ya.. Labuan is a federal territory. It's a duty free shop. That Pisang goreng that you buy is consider very cheap Ken.. cos here in my place : 5 pieces of Pisang goreng = 2 rm. Labuan is a financials businesses oriented F. Territory. There are lot high rise bank building. Shop mostly close at 5 pm. By 7 pm the place seem like 9/10 pm 😁. Very quiet. Enjoy your stay in Labuan Ken.

0:33 I totally agree with you. I've experienced it when flying from Miri to Limbang by Twin Otter plane.
You literally have to bend when walking inside, which make me to chose the seat next to the door. Big mistake. 🤣🤣🤣
When we running down the runway during take off, the door was shaking violently. I was expecting it gonna rip off during the flight. Lucky it didn't. But no more shaking when we in the air.
Inside the cabin it was quite noisy and hot too. No air circulation. That made me decided to bought an earphone just to cover my ear, but luckily fly back we got bigger prop plane instead with pressurized cabin, the very same model that you flew to Labuan. I even boarded the same aircraft going back from Miri to Kuching.

Ken abroad. Hope you or your manager will arrange for you to take more small planes travel. The ATR 72 plane which you took is not the smallest. It is made in Italy and it is one of the most used planes in the world. Labuan island is bigger than Singapore. Federal Territory is one of the states in Malaysia and it is made up of 3 different areas. Because it is a Federal Territory, you find more mosques. You need to do more research.
