You can not understand this Movie since it pictures German History. The Singer wears the Colors of Prussia, "my Children" are all the small Kingdoms and co Germany was once, the Voice is "what we all wanted" (as Germans), "Mein herz brennt" is in the Meaning of "My Heart is in Flames for UNITY" (so ONE UNITED GERMANY).
This is Pictured by him wearing a Dress since Prussia was called "The old Lady". He in the end STEPS DOWN (so PRUSSIA stops to exist) and all you see is RED, GOLD, BLACK... the National Colors of Germany.
Prussia wanted to UNITE Germany via Politics (first Smile, kind of friendly) but also via Wars (2nd Smile, that is also why he is having to many Scars on his Body, PRUSSIA UNITED GERMANY! The last 2 Wars where against the Saxxons and the Bavarians, both where beaten and Germany was formed...)

the piano version of this song is something you will never forget!
The song's lyrics involve a narrator describing the terrors of nightmares. The opening line of the song's intro and chorus ("Now, dear children, pay attention. I have brought something for you") is taken from the German children's TV Show "Mr Sandman", which provided children with a "nice" bedtime story. The song's narrator appears as a much more darker version of this character.
In this video, the character of the Sandman is played by Melanie Gaydos a famous model. Melanie Gaydos has suffered from a rare genetic defect since she was born: Her head is bald, her teeth and nails are malformed. She first appears to a sleeping Richard Kruspe, triggering nightmares and sending him into a state of agony. Meanwhile, Till terrorizes the complex of Beelitz-Heilstätten (military hospital of the Imperial German Army and Adolf Hitler recuperated there after being wounded in the first world war), which acts as an orphanage. He kidnaps the orphans and places them in a cage located in the main bathroom. A female warden attempts to defend the children with a shotgun, but Till overpowers her. The warden appears in the video both young (Viktorija Bojarskaja) and old (Anna von Rüden), while Till remains the same age, indicating immortality and paranormal abilities.
While guarding the orphans, Till takes a grotesque, insect-like form with an elongated head and fingers. The children are then used in various examinations and surgeries with the rest of the band playing the doctors. The female warden is also seen assisting them in her younger form. One of the surgeries sees a child's tears extracted through a syringe, which is then vaginally injected by the Sandman. The Sandman is also subject to examinations by the doctors, as Paul H. Landers is seen giving her a gynecological examination.
She later walks in a dress shielding two small children, possibly indicating that the tears are involved in a form of In vitro fertilisation. While Till is away from the main bathroom, the children (portrayed by the rest of the band as disheveled adults) escape from their cage and the orphanage. This causes Till to tear out and consume his own heart while the Heilstätten is engulfed in an inferno. The video ends with the liberated walking away from the building, while the chorus of the piano version plays in the background, signalling the video of the piano version as an afterword. (Wikipedia)
The song "my heart burns" is the film score for "Lilja 4-ever". A film about child prostitution. That's why you could interpret the text based on this film. In the film, girls from Russia lured to Sweden in the hope of a better life, in which a young and attractive man promises her heaven there: "Dear children, take care, I am the voice from the pillow" Then the sentence "Tore it out of my chest, I can imagine that she died inside every time she was raped. Since the rapes happen under cover of the night, this motif comes up frequently in the song. They steal your hot little tears, The film is a nightmare and it leaves a feeling of emptiness and powerlessness ...

Yes, Das Sandmännchen was indeed a tv kids show, he always arrived in some vehicle, showed a sweet little bedtime story, and then he would throw sand at the TV to make you sleepy and fly off. ^^

The Sandman is a legendary figure from European mythology. According to tradition, among other things, he visits the children in the evening, puts sand in their eyes to make them sleep and lets the dream come about. The roots of this character lie in Celtic, Greek and Germanic mythology, where sleep and death were considered siblings, so that while you were sleeping you could have access to the demonic underworld with possible consequences. As I said....... the version mentioned above is the harmless variant in the context of the time.
In 1815, Ernst Theodor Wilhelm Hoffmann wrote about the abysses of the soul in the context of the psychological and parapsychological significance of this character in his two-part cycle Nachtstücke and the first volume at night 1 o'clock in his story "der sandman". This is about the student Nathanael, who gets caught up in a maelstrom of strange events from which he can't find his way out. He seems to be pursued by demonic forces, which can be tied to the figure of the Sandman. In different forms and variations of names, he repeatedly penetrates Nathanael's life and gradually confuses it to such an extent that Nathanael can no longer free himself from the spell of events and perishes from them.
With enter sandman, Metallica has also turned to the mythical figure, e.g. assumed their importance.
This is a great one! I also recommend this song as the piano version with Till singing in a very haunting way. Great choice! 👍🏻

I heard this first when it came out originally, 21 years ago. Really doesn't seem that long. My own observations were focused on the music itself (Google translate wasn't invented for another 5 years). This song is the first time I realized there was a lot more going on with Rammstein than just some heavy chugging guitar riffs. Of course, in the time since they have evolved into something even more impressive with songs like Deutschland, and Zeit. Now you've given me some interesting things to consider with regard to the lyrics. I'm quite excited to see what you'll be reacting to in the future.

There are some making-of videos on the Rammstein official channel and the one for this video is really interesting. It is a combination of two different filming sessions and crews.

The video has an interesting story. Part of it was filmed 10 years ago with a spanish director who created most of the creepy scenes. But Rammstein was not satisfied with the result of the video and stopped it. Some years later they hired a second director and shot the scenes with the old lady and the old Rammsteins.
Fun fact: I am pretty sure that the old lady is also acting in "Dicke Titten" together with Flake rolling the wool.

I really hope, i don't come over as condescending, but it gives me so much hope, that someone as young as you understands these lyrics and images better than most older reactors. Thank you for that.
Listen to the piano version with Till. his voice is awesome. The song becomes even more intense when you know the story behind it. It's about a children's home where the children were abused and had nightmares. The piano does not play Flake, but Sven Helbig, a German composer and pianist.

The donkey ears were a sign for dumbness in the former GDR. I can remember if you have one in your book or on a test paper you get an "F" (or 5 in the GDR), even if all answers were right. It was to educating kids to order and that you've got to treat your school material properly.

The word sandman in this video has three different meanings. On one hand, there is a childrens tv figure, an old man that throws dreamsand into the childrens eyes, so that they go to sleep and have nice dreams. When you woke up with a light crust on your eyes the next morning, it was said that these are the rest of that sand.
The second is about a book from Eta Hoffmann called _Der Sandmann._ In this book, a young man called Nathanael who lives around 1795 - 1840, is haunted by what he had whitnessed as a boy, which slowly drives him mad. His father partook in forbidden alchemistic experiments (as a guinea pig, mostly around the eyes) which resulted in his death, at the hands of the old man Coppelius. Since he didn't understood this as a child, he saw that evil looking man as a sort of demon or boogeyman, which was still told children.
Which brings us to the third version, said boogey man is a hag like creature, with thin, long limbs, sharp teeth and a beaky nose. He roams the night to find children, which are still awake during bedtime, or not home when it's dark. He throws sand into the childrens eyes, but it's real, sharp sand. Than he packs the child (sometimes kiddnapps them too), and tears their eyes out, to feed them to his offspring. Germany truly has weird children storys...the original grimm tales alone...

Träume in der Kindheit sind am Anfang eben unschuldig. Umso älter du wirst umso mehr Alpträume kannst du in deinem Leben haben. Kommt eben darauf in welche Richtung dein Leben geht. Die Angst vor diesen Alpträumen können dich eben auch noch im Alter einholen. ;)

Hey there! Nice opinion on the video and song. I think you are half way there.
I wanted to let you know about my Opinion on this one, because this song is standing out for me.
My Believe is that the song is about demons or at leased very very bad people that harvests special things from kids that are beeing captured and enslaved by taught methods (here mentioned as an Orphanage, what should be at least some kind of save haven for kids that gone through things).
But...... it is only a cage they are imprisoned in tp ripend by the methods of evil with there "graduation" mirrored by the donkey ears or in my opinion rabbit ears (it is better fitting for a lab) that states there ripeness for harvest.
The "tears" that are harvested and injected to those evil adults are just an nicer picture for what is really going on. I think you may get the catch.
And the orphamage mother turns in a way to nothing more as a puppet that keeps the children caged in, losing her self in the progress, cause first and in the latest she really tries to save the children. But the evil people or demons at some point forcing her anyway. Even if that means to harm or kill her in the process. All because they need this harvested goods to live and thrive.
Now to the title "mein Herz brennt". It is from both sides and has a double meaning. The good.... it is hard to watch, withstand and rebel against something so evil, with the children don't know anything about it. The good have to fight against evil alone and in secret. That shatters the mind and heart and it bursts out in flames for the love of life and the righteous hate agains the unfair enemy.
On the bad side..... they use the heart of the good and righteous to fight and enslave them. "The heart that has the might to put you asleep". It is cruel in it ways and burns down any defense the kids or the good adults can build up.
But the end of this song and video is the becon of hope that shines by the inner fire from those kids that survived the harvest and make it into adulthood to use ther tormented hearts in flame to burn down there prison they have lived through hell for so many years and destroy it in the end. At that time the "demons" that have lost there way of harvest are crying in amger and fear for there survival that now the tables have turned and there own hearts (when they ever had one) are now burning and being pulled to hell, where they belong.
Sorry for the long text, but i love and hate this song at the same time. It is very emotional to me.

Absolut klasse, ich finde es sowieso das große Interesse an deutschen Liedtexten oder auch speziell an Ramstein. Ich bin jetzt schon über einige chennel gestolpert wo das ein großes Thema ist was mich echt freut. Deutsche Musik hat sich in den letzten 20 Jahren echt krass entwickelt und es gibt echt so viele gute Bands im Rock und Metal Bereich die das so geprägt haben egal ob sie auf deutsch oder englisch singen.
