  • Yes I know this is a departure from my normal videos.... don't worry I'm not planning to start a series on car repair videos. I will be doing more deck reviews soon enough. Especially soon if things stop breaking on me!
    IMPORTANT: I have little to no knowledge about cars.
    But... my friend talked me in to doing this repair myself. He both (A) found the part online cheap for me and (B) found a tutorial video claiming I could do the job in 15 minutes. So I figured I might as well have fun making a video while doing this repair.
    Car: Honda Accord 2005 v6 EX
    Part name: Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor
    Part number: PPS1047
    I got the replacement part from Advanced Auto Parts website. Normally $163, but I found a 30% off coupon and got it for $114.
    Dealership wanted $485 for parts & labor! (Total savings of $371)

    great video bro. i did this today you helped me out some but for other viewers who need help instead of taking off the 2 bolts that he took off first, take the cover off first then take the 2 bolts he started with. then it will be easier to pull the whole thing out. afterwards u start by taking the the bolts underneath off. anyways great video bro thanks for the help. my tsx running smooth again !!

    Great video! Thanks for the post. I had the same problem and replacement my sensor last night. I took the cover off first AND unhooked the cable assembly from the bracket to make the entire sensor/base come out easier. Took less than an hour.

    Thanks for making this video. Having this issue on my 2011 Ridgeline and the dealer didn’t know how to fix it. Through it was the throttle body. Went online and was suggested this part. They wanted $499 l. Going to do this one myself.

    Just did this to my 2006 Acura TSX, It took me 20 minutes, the trick is to remove the cover plastic first then the rest slides up no problem. it fixed my low RPM lurching and mild hesitation when giving it gas. This along with replacing the spark plugs brought the car back to life. The dealer wants $25 per NGK iridium spark plug. Auto zone has the same part for $9 each. I ordered this APPS from Amazon for $121, its a third party american made with great reviews, the OEM part is identical but for $230.

    Just replaced mine on a 2007 Accord EX and it was the same except I found that removing the plastic shroud off of the assembly and loosing the throttle cable allowed the whole assembly to be removed so slightly different path, same result. Positioning, mounts and even that bar in the way were identical.

      Funny video but very helpful. I was not sure at first if you really didn't know a screwdriver from a flashlight. I'm 73 years old and started working on motorcycles when I was 12. Having gotten a code P2135 and checked the meaning of that code on Hondas I ended up here to see how an expert would replace it. You had me LMAO within seconds. After watching you flumbling around I'm confidant that even I can do it.Thanks John BTW I always thought a flashlight was a long skinny thing with batteries inside it which made light in the dark. That is unlil I was outside at night with my 11 y.o. grandson and asked him to go inside and bring me a flashlight. You will not belive this but he pulled one of those new fangled things the young ones call a sell phone and a very strong light beam came out of it; stronger than any flashlight I had ever seen. That gave me a great idea - I'll design flashlights that you can use to make phone call on

    Great video. I was having the same issue with my sensor. Before ordering replacement part(s), just for the hell of it, I took a screw driver by the metal end, and hit the flat part of the black sensor 10-15x with the plastic handle of the screw driver. Not hard enough to crack or damage the plastic sensor housing, just enough to vibrate the insides. The issue instantly ceased and over 2 months later, it hasn't returned. I know this probably is not a permanent fix, but should give most more time to evaluate their options.

    Excellent tutorial, its the same i think for the acura tl. For the tension on the cable, in the service manual it says '"the cable free play should be 10 - 12 mm or 3/8 - 1/2 in'' theres a picture and it points where to measure this but im not really sure where it points, if you want me i could send you the service manual or the relevant pages maybe you can understand it better than me.

    • @JasonParkerMagic
      @JasonParkerMagic  Před 7 lety

      PapaBless hey glad my video could help you! I am actually not really a car person. I just watched some tutorials and then did this repair myself. For the tension I just went with a "reasonable" feeling of tension. 😅 I suppose you could test and see how it feels with your foot on the gas. For example with your foot off the gas.... it should not be already making the engine go. And on the other hand, when you start to press down with your foot... the pedal should not travel too far before the gas begins to be supplied to the engine. You know what I mean? That is what you are adjusting. The manual isn't going to help me ether as I am not a car expert! 😁

    I have an 05 accord v6 automatic and the other day I was driving in the hwy and the car all of a sudden the TCS, ABS and Check Engine Lights came on followed by loss of power and the accelerator was barely responding. I exited the hwy and the car barely accelerates, it took like 1 minute to reach 25 mph.
    I got home parked it and turned it back on later and the problem was gone. I am scared that this will happen again and have read others with similar issues and they said it was this Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor, so I'm wondering if the same happen to you as I don't want to spend $100+ and then it not fix the issue. I have yet to run the scanner on it so will update on any codes as the CEL is not on at the current moment.
    Any input would be appreciated

    • @JasonParkerMagic
      @JasonParkerMagic  Před 6 lety

      George Ramirez my experience was that lights came on the dashboard and pushing the gas pedal hardly did anything at all. I had to park and turn off the car. When I turned it back on... it worked just well enough that I could take the car back home.

    • @charliesal3416
      @charliesal3416 Před 6 lety +1

      Ramirez my 04 Honda did the same thing except my ABS lights didn't come on. Anyway I took it to the dealer and they said it was the accelerator pedal positioning sensor. They want $400 plus to fix it. Get the part cheaper online, watch this video and do it yourself. If the check engine light is still on after replacing it. Reset it by disconnecting the battery. Good luck.

    Will it affect the pedal when getting the string attached too tight or too loose?

    • @JasonParkerMagic
      @JasonParkerMagic  Před 7 lety +2

      Tha Bozz well I'm not a car expert… Yes I think it affects the feel of the pedal. I imagine that if you make the string tight, then you don't have to push the pedal very much. And if you were to lose you would have to push the pedal harder or further. Also potentially if the string were too tight then it could be a bad thing because maybe it would be continually pulling and making gas going to the engine… Again I'm not an expert :-)

      Thanks for the answer, I guess the only way to truly find out is to test it. I'm looking for a accelerator position sensor for my is300 but unfortunately they go for 120 a piece, I'm waiting for one to hit the junkyard. I'll try it out though once I got the part and will report what happens
