Thank you for this video. I finally can use all 8 pads on my mpk mini instead of just 5 of them because for whatever reason akai has it preset as if they let a 3 year old bang on the keys and pads to assign them in mpc beats. Appreciate ya bro!
Hi Matthew! Yr tutorial was a 'life-saver'...I just bought the M-Audio Oxygen Pro-Mini and after the usual setup, I also hooked up a Yamaha Clavinova (digital keyboard) as part of the USB-MIDI gig. Problem is when I activated both Pro-Mini & the Clavinova, the pads on Pro-Mini failed to respond to the customised MIDI mapping!! But when I saw yr tutorial, I then realized the Clavinova de-activated the 'Control' icon for the Pro-Mini. Thereafter, even when I switched off the digital keyboard, it remained in this OFF-mode. So, when I re-activated the Control mode for the Pro-Mini, the Pads are in sync again. Once again, thank you very much for yr guidance!! 2 thumbs up!
MPD32 is the goat. Just bought a brand new one 2 months ago for around 110 bucks. Highly recommend it. FYI you open up Drum machine Designer in Logic Pro with an empty kit and literally drag and drop sound to individual pads and banks

Hi, I’m new to your channel and this is a great video but on my brand new MacBook Pro M1 I had to tap MPC beats on the menu and then go into settings to bring up that preference menu (I was lost for a while because I could not find ‘preference’ in the same place that you have on your screen ) you can verify what I’m saying and update the video if you wish. Once I found the preference menu, everything else was perfect 👌Great channel and thanks for the help!
Excellent tutorial as always, Matthew. Quick question-- there's no way to edit the last-hit sample (last-hit pad), when using 3rd party midi controllers, is there? You can easily edit the sample by mouse-clicking the pad (inside MPC Beats) but no luck with it showing the last-hit pad, in Sample Edit or Program Edit views. This is not the case when the MPC Studio is connected, only 3rd party pad or key controllers. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thx man! EDIT: It works, after you map it manually. I had a pad controller that was already mapped correctly (pad 1 triggered pad 1, 16 triggered 16, etc). But you have to go in and manually MIDI Learn each pad... no problem. Glad it works (2.8.3 here... Win7. 2.10.0 only works on Win10). Hope this helps others!
One thing that drives me nuts in MPC Beats, the regular MPC software, and many MPCs.... the "Classic MPC" note map is the default when creating a new drum program. So, C1 (your pad) is actually C#1 (inside MPC software), C#1 is C1 (???), D1 is F#1 (yep... this is how the MPC always has been, since the 80s).... and incredibly, D#1 registers as A#4 inside the MPC software. Any way around this, Matthew? Other than this--------- Edit / Program / Note Mapping / Chromatic C1 (inside the software) or..... in the hardware (MPC One, for instance): pencil icon / Edit Pad Map / Chromatic C1)........... I wish you could default to one or the other. Every time a new Sliced Program is made.... it defaults back to the crappy "Classic MPC" map. Insanity, and stupid. What are your thoughts on this? It drives many people insane. I'm definitely not the only one. Thx man!

Very helpful in setting up my NanoKontrol with MPC Beats - thanks a ton, Matthew! One Q - somehow note 37 was already assigned to my kick sample. I have assigned the kick (using the method in this video) to note 36, so now I have TWO keys assigned to the kick (but I don't see any keygroups set up - I started with an empty project). I have my snare on note 38... how do I *add* note 39 to the snare so that it, also, has two keys assigned to it? Hope that makes sense! Thanks!
With an M-audio Oxygen Pro 25, having [control] turned on for the port (1) (the port the pads notes messages come from) causes unexpected, re-directed octave notes activated by the keyboard which is also the usual set of midi port 1 notes. Switch to an instrument track like Rhodes, synth, organ, and the keyboard is activating the wrong notes in another octave. In Ableton Live and any midi port 1 notes controller, having control checked on for midi port 1 disables a large section of the keyboard from sending note messages at all because those became control messages. So, [control] is not really supposed to be turned on for the port 1 which midi notes come from. MPC Beats is quite awful at every turn for making it work with any midi controller Akai didn't manufacture to go with it. Midi editing being this much of a hassle in one particular software was intentional.
Hi, this video looks good, but I am using the mpc one + with reaper and the vst inside reaper. I get the midi notes, but no sound. When I go to preferences, there is no midi sync. any updates to this vide to cover the newer software or controller? ty
I have a mpk mini mk 3 hooked up to Mpc beats and I’ll go to hit pad one on the mpc but it plays the sound assigned to pad two and other pads are mixed up like this it does this on all my projects now and I don’t know what it is?
Go to your preferences and make sure you have CONTROL turn on. And make sure you have ENABLE on in MIDI Learn and make sure you have your MPK mini 3 MIDI mapping selected in MIDI Learn.
hey Mat thanks for sharing. I have a Akai MPK2 mini midi synth witn pads and knobs. for some reason the mappings arent working in the mpc beat software. this remapping should work I hope. its a bit stupid because you can choose the mpk mini mapping but it doesnt work. also my pad perform menu is grayed out so i cant change any options there. i have installed the latest mpc beats software updates too. i wonder if i am the only one strugling with this controller. also I know there is the mpk software for mapping the controller via programs but this doesnt work either. it is like mpc is signing random notes to the pads. makes me want to throw this controller out.
What if all that dont work, my mpk261 only playing notes, sometimes the pads gets scrambled, pad 1 plays pad 2, some pads not working, if I click with mouse if plays chords, everything on in preferences, midi learn not working as shown in this video, was though, so frustrating, I wish keys could play chords, and these pads, crazy thing is pads work if load old beats/programs, on new project pads misbehave, up is left, down is right, 1 is 3, 4 is playing 2, midi learn not working.😫😫

Hello Josh, Start with a slow tempo. Turn on your metronome and start with something simple like playing the HiHat to the metronome. So every time you hear a click play a note. Then gradually build up the speed. Then, try playing a kick on the first sound of the metronome then a snare on the second sound of the metronome without hihat. Gradually build up speed. Then, try to put the two together. Start simple and slow, then build up speed.

Hi Matthew, nice video to start mapping, but I have a problem and I can't find the solution: I have an M-Audio Oxygen 61 that I use with MPC Beats, when I map the Track Mute on my 8 Pads, the corresponding ones no longer play notes on the keyboard or they play with a different pitch than they should be, so the question is: how do I "disconnect" the Pads from the notes of the Midi keyboard? Hey, i have an issue, when i load a drum kit everything is working fine, but when isn’t loaded then i have pad 2 on A1 place, pad 3 on A6 etc. How can i fix this??

I have akai mpk mini, properly asigned to mpc with start up wizard. so my 8 knobs are asigned to the first 8 qlinks. how do i toggle between frist 8 qlinks to the qlinks from 9 to 16? like, id like to change the current track qlink using my knob, but i cant, i can only adjust the first 8 qlinks with my akai knobs, and the rest i gotta do manually on the computer. how do i toggle between those 8 qlink sets. is it possible?

Thank you for the vid, i'm still scratching my head how to get my Alesis V25 to access all 16 pads - can anyone help?. When i load a drum kit in MPC Beats all 16 pads in MPC beats fill up but the factory Alesis V25 preset only has 8 pads mapped on the factory setting which map to the bottom 8 pads only and i can't work out how to toggle to the 8 pads on top which have sounds assigned to them. Surely there is a toggle somehwere like there is on the MPK Mini 2/3 or do we need to assign this toggle to the 4 spare buttons somehow on the Alesis?
Hello, please I have already more then 1000 mapping of my MPD, it probably makes every time when I connect the MPD the new one... Can I delete all these mapping by one way, I dont want to delete each separetely..? Or can I just reinstall software and it should delete them all? ? Thank you. Martin
how do i controll the pads using my maudio keystation 49 mk3 that doesnt have the pads but it does have keys? can i control the pads within the software with my keys or is that something that i just cant do?

Hello, Not sure exactly what you mean. There is a template I do believe for the new MPD232 but it doesn't work with the old on as far as I can tell (at least it doesn't work when I select it and try the old MPD32).
For some reason my mpk mini isn't playing sounds when I tap a pad, I went into midi/sync but there wasn't any tab options that you have in yours like control, sync, track

I’ve downloaded everything and in the software mini if I click on open on hybrid 3 or velvet, it says they are launching but then stops and does nothing. But mini grand launches from in software mini and desktop short cut. Please help. :(
None of this works sadly. Im getting MIDI in message, but I can't get MPC Beats to do ANYTHING with my pads. Learn doesnt work. It wont take the pads I push....man Im spending 3x the time trying to get this controller to work instead of making music...My pads dont get recognized at all in chop mode...and MIDI learn does not work at all for me...this software is ass.

I wish you could map the faders to parameters on the mixing window. For some reason the mixer window can't learn any midi data.

Sounds like you figured it out. That's why I made this video. So you can use the control functions of the pads, not just play notes.

Ok I found out why, I just unplugged my mpk225 and replugged it in and it recognized it.

how do i controll the pads using my maudio keystation 49 mk3 that doesnt have the pads but it does have keys? can i control the pads within the software with my keys or is that something that i just cant do?
is there a way to assign a plugin to a pad? so when I play live, i can hit a different pad to play a different plugin on the keys on the fly?

Hi @ Matthew, i have recently purchased the LAUNCHKEY mini mk3 by novation, it seems that my pads will not map with this software, i hope i am just doing something wrong, i would like to use this midi with this free software. Let me know if you know of this midi controller not working with this DAW, thanks for the content and you have been a great help with everything.
@Noah O'Day i think there is no support for our midi with this software i have been using ableton lite, cakewalk and bandlab online.
I thought mpd32 can remap itself, just need to check what notes are assigned to the pads
Hello, Not sure exactly what you mean. There is a template I do believe for the new MPD232 but it doesn't work with the old on as far as I can tell (at least it doesn't work when I select it and try the old MPD32).
I have tried with mpc studio with no luck, went to preferences and as you mentioned. What else can I do. Akai mpc studio

For some reason my mpk mini isn't playing sounds when I tap a pad, I went into midi/sync but there wasn't any tab options that you have in yours like control, sync, track
Is it because I have no input ports and only 1 output port?

When i open mpc beats as a plugin in fruityloops linked with my Mpc one
I can not drag samples i have from fruityloops inside the drum pads of mpc beats,
When i press on my drum pads on my mpc, i see it is connected to mpc beats, can not drag any sounds to my drum pads in mpc beats :( anyone have a sulution how i can fix it ?

That is really odd. It is still there on mine, I never saw it go away either.

It's in the EDIT section of the menu on Windows.

Hey, I’ve recently come across your channel when watching a install on my mpk mini. I’ve downloaded everything and in the software mini if I click on open on hybrid 3 or velvet, it says they are launching but then stops and does nothing. But mini grand launches from in software mini and desktop short cut. Please help. :(

None of this works sadly. Im getting MIDI in message, but I can't get MPC Beats to do ANYTHING with my pads. Learn doesnt work. It wont take the pads I push....man Im spending 3x the time trying to get this controller to work instead of making music...My pads dont get recognized at all in chop mode...and MIDI learn does not work at all for me...this software is ass.

You just need to change the bank in the software and your pads will respond to the current bank.
Did anyone else not have a “Preferences” tab under Edit? 😅
If you are on Mac the preferences are located elsewhere.
