My favourite Wes Anderson film to date. I love how the visuals reflect Zero's narrative, since we're viewing the entire film through the memory of Zero and other characters, so not exactly how they happened, but how they were experienced.
So you like that the visuals make fucking sense, in a very basic and blatantly obvious way?
Jesus Christ you Anderson fans don't even try anymore
In my view, this is going to be the best film he ever makes that has his trademarks. His masterstroke, no doubt.
It is also my favourite Wes film, I've seen it many times, although the end of Zero's story is agonizing
I am not a Wes Anderson fan, but I like this movie. It is very well done.
I'm with y'all. Possibly my favorite movie of all time.
I think there should have been a sin off for the scene where Gustave runs from the cops in the hotel lobby and there's a slight pause before the cops run after him. The timing of that scene was hilarious.
Yeah....there are a few of those moments in his films - and this one is more different. I love CS but sometimes he forgets how funny yet on point he can be w/ his removals.
Seriously, perfect timing 😂😂 the way he realizes what's happening and just takes off ☠️
@@bsgtrekfan88 I don't think they like this movie very much, they mentioned it in some of their previous sins videos.
the first time i saw this with my dad we both started bawling
"Gespannt wie ein Flitzebogen", roughly taught as a drawn bow is actually an outmoded German idiom that serves as an accurate analog to "on the edge of one's seat".
That translation was absolutely correct.
My apologies, but the word you want is taut, meaning stretched tight. Taught is teach, in the past tense.
@@sheboyganshovel5920that’ll learn him
But it is still a sin.
No sin removal for "oh my god, she's dead...and you think I did it." *runs away*
This film has everything. Comedy, adventure, mystery, romance, violence, deception, suspense. Wes Anderson put a lot of thought into this film.
The boy with apple sins in the middle were stellar. Well done, my man.
I don't care how much you sin this movie (and make me laugh with your sins), it's still a masterpiece. In fact, you made me want to watch it right now *ding* 😂😂
It is probably a good movie, but I saw it in high school on a substitute day and, pretty as it was, it confused me completely. I went and read its Wikipedia page and its TV Tropes entry and was still confused.
To this day, I smile and nod when the movie comes up in casual conversation and wonder why it was so hard for me to follow...
@@Aileil really? I didn't find it confusing at all. Maybe give it another try now that you're older?
@@BlueMarbleApeMan I may give it another try one of these days. I'll try to remember to reply if I do.
@@Aileil i can totally see how it’d be confusing! it’s fast-paced and jumps around a lot (whether thru the time/setting, narrator, etc lol) so it may be hard to follow. especially if you just watched it during class haha; it def needs undivided attention. i personally loved the wittiness and how thought-provoking it was. i hope you gave it another shot and that you enjoyed it 🤗
@@Aileil I agree. I had to watch is a few times to take it all in. It moves so fast.
Fun Fact: The scene where Ludwig says "Good luck, kid!" before slapping Zero across the face was shot forty-two times until Wes Anderson was satisfied. Keitel actually slapped Revolori each time.
I see what he did there!
It’s hilarious how Agatha has a birthmark the shape of Mexico and it’s just never acknowledged. Wes is incredible
It's acknowledged by Gustave, but basically passed over: "I must say, I find that girl utterly delightful. Flat as a board, enormous birthmark the shape of Mexico over half her face, sweating for hours on end in that sweltering kitchen, while Mendl, genius though he is, looms over her like a hulking gorilla. Yet without question, without fail, always and invariably, she's exceedingly lovely. Why? Because of her purity."
Gustav tastefully brings it up.
"M. Gustav: I must say, I find that girl utterly delightful. Flat as a board, enormous birthmark the shape of Mexico over half her face, sweating for hours on end in that sweltering kitchen, while Mendl, genius though he is, looms over her like a hulking gorilla. Yet without question, without fail, always and invariably, she’s exceeding lovely. Why? Because of her purity."
@@sihollett .......dont flirt with her! (said sternly but with respect) ;)
Yes it is, in the “it depends” scene in the train
I love Wes Anderson. His blocking, shot composition and presentation are so methodical that it's like watching OCD personified in cinematic form.
It has a calming effect on people like me who suffer from it.
That's the best description of his films ever.
Even if you don't have OCD, but are an art lover, it is fantastic. It elevates the art of film to a high art form.
We need more Art Sins
Time traveler?????

Bruh, this video was posted 6 hours ago. How is this comment 8 hours ago? HOW ARE YOU COMMENTING TWO HOURS EARLIER THAN THE VIDEO???
The ladder gag (along with others) is based off of a Buster Keaton gag. As in the way the author presents the much filtered story is partially filtered through the lens of the old movies that inspire so much of this film. Brilliant.
I love this movie. The comedy and the cast are great! I can tell he either didn't enjoy the movie or struggled to find sins to remove. The sins seemed very pointless.
Welcome to the channel!
This movie sucked
Wes Anderson really uses interesting shots and works on fun projects like Isle of Dogs and Mr. Fantastic Fox. A lot of heavy hitters in this movie to come together.
The Art Sins had me giggling. I’m glad Cinema Sins can still have so much fun poking at its own concept~
Yeah, that was great.
Missed blooper opportunity: Black Widow correcting everyone's pronunciation of Budapest
No sins removed? NO SINS REMOOOOVED?
I hope that more Wes Anderson films are eventually covered, namely "Moonrise Kingdom" or "The Royal Tenenbaums." I generally love these films, but I'd be interested in what Jeremy has to say about them.
Only 13 minutes - that's a short Cinemasins video which implies they really had to scrap the bottom of the barrel just for the sins needed for this excellent film.
I love this movie. 2nd favourite after French Dispatch. Ralph Fiennes deserved at least an Oscar nom for this
Love the fact that all the mystery surrounding how that boy came to own such a luxurious hotel, and the reason was because at the time, the man he worked for made a contract to be his heir that seemed like a joke at the time considering what he would get for it, but no one would have ever expected he would be gifted a large fortune just because he was good to her in the later years of her life. There is always something I find both hilarious and quite touching about that in a way, and it never loses that feeling for me.
You've put your finger on why I love Anderson's films. At their heart, they're hilarious and yet, quite touching. That's their charm, even more than the elaborate and careful design of each shot.
Gustave didn't just get the Grand Budapest because he was good to its owner. She also had to be murdered for him to get it.
I've definitely had a dog shiver after pooping. It kinda starts in their lower spine and moves into their tail. I imagine it's the dog equivalent to when you shiver after taking a piss.
It’s not actually referring to a dog pooping though, he is saying “shitting” in the way that we use it here in England (similar to how you’d say “a fucking dog”)
I just love this film, and I'm not usually a fan of Wes Anderson movies. It's just really well done, and despite the many sins, it's still very enjoyable.
The pastry in question is a religieuse. It it is a French pastry made of a small choux pastry case stacked on top of a larger one, both filled with crème pâtissière, commonly flavoured with chocolate or mocha. Each case is topped with a ganache of the same flavour as the filling, then attached to each other using piped buttercream icing. It is a type of éclair.
the hotel feels like an adult book written by Lemony Snicket
This movie was one of the first ones that made me fall in love with cinema
Perfect timing! I just watched this for the first time two weeks ago. Its such a good movie, Wes Anderson is great as are the actors in his films and all the other creatives involved.
If you think this one is too much Wes Anderson, wait until you get to The French Dispatch
I've only ever seen small lap dogs shake while taking a shit😂 my mom had a miniature grey hound dog that ALWAYS would shake lol
My favorite sight gag in this movie is the sign "Fuelitz", where Willem Dafoe stops for gas. I remember watching this all alone in a matinee on a Sunday and literally lol-ing. I love Wes Anderson. This is one of his best.
This is a great movie! Kind of surprised by no sins off...
Happy to see the channel is still going strong. Was watching back in high school now watching after finishing college. Going to be a great summer :)!
You missed an opportunity for a parody post credit with "The menu" speach and the gruel delivery scene !
@3:45 Can a movie be both good and up it's own ass? Wes Anderson proves that an entire filmography can be that.
I love the Grand Budapest Hotel.
you mixed up the formula in a self indulgent yet very entertaining way... just like wes anderson likes to do!
very meta
"Gespannt wie ein Flitzebogen" does indeed mean "at the edge of your seat"...
Been years since I've seen this and still my favorite Wes Anderson movie
I'm not going to lie to you - I'm not even sure if I can - but that art sin clip at @9:50 is all of the amazing!
This is my all time favorite Wes Anderson movie. I’m so glad you’re doing it now.
German here, that translation is actually pretty good. The exact translation would be "tense as a drawn bowstring", so on the edge of my seat gets the meaning pretty well
the grand budapest hotel has got to be one of my favorite wes anderson films. my brother had to watch it for his highschool film class years ago and liked it enough that he bought it and made me watch the whole thing
“Tasting a random cream you found on a floor of a prison.”
🤣😂🤣
I adore this movie. So much talent set to awkward, so much open world constrained to fit a square.
It is a treat the second and third time viewing, but probably not after that.
I assure you, it retains its charm on each viewing, no matter how often I watch it. Can't speak for you though.
@@lizardog and you shouldn't try either, nor I you. I have certainly watched it more than three times, but obviously it doesn't have the same magic after that. Even then this film is one of my favorites.
This movie is my favorite Wes Anderson film so far. Love it!
I think this is the shortest CinemaSins video in the last two years
This is one of those movies I could just watch every few months.
The Boy With Apple bit was fantastic. Well done.
10:36 "skipping a head" was a next- level play, thank you for everything you do.
I can't tell if this review is supposed to be taken seriously or not, but it's hilarious how small and insignificant all these sins are and goes to show how much of a masterpiece this movie was.
Now, please do an everything that is great about this film, because it's a masterpiece.
Such a beautiful movie with great humor and heartfelt moments. Plus it’s a enjoyablely easy watch.
I regularly say “now how is that supposed to make me feel” when someone is overtly rude to me 🙏
I've never seen this but it appears to have so many amazing actors in it that I'm now tempted.
I have seen this and i forgot Jeff Goldblum was in it.
Never too much lol these beautiful ass movies. Also, I need Edward Norton in more Wes Anderson movies especially after that SNL sketch years back "The Midnight Corterie of Sinister Intruders"
Oh my god, I've been waiting for you!!!!!
The “Shaking like a shitting dog” phrase is derived from the English usage of the word shitting/pissing etc to be used in the same way as fucking, so he wasn’t literally referring to a dog taking a dump.
The movie is perfect! Shut up Cinema sins!
Love the art sim counter, we need more
But… that IS what “Gespannt wie ein Flitzebogen” means. It’s a figure of speech.
I've been waiting for this for so long 🎉
big fan of your vids ❤ not sure if you take cinemasins recommendations but i’d love to see one on after hours, texas chainsaw massacre, fargo, one flew over the cuckoos nest, superbad, the godfather or no country for old men
I've been waiting for three years fir this to come out
Love your content😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Btw, there is a bath house in Budapest with a dentist's office inside. So maybe that's an easter egg
One of my FAVORITES!!!
This is one of Wes Anderson's best. The simple screen ratio change to sell the time periods is *chef kiss*.
They haven’t sinned this movie yet?! I experience the Mandela effect every couple of weeks now with this channel
The first time I watched it, I loved it. The second time was with a large crowd and small speaker, and it wasn't as fun.
I'll probably like it again if I rewatched it without those issues
Random artsins in the middle of a cinemasins of a wes anderson film is the funniest thing they've done in years.
"Can a movie be good and up its own ass?" Ha! Sums this one up quite well.
You still need to do madagascar 3, penguins of madagascar, and cars toon
And cars on the road
I would argue that this is Wes Anderson's best movie so far (although I haven't seen Asteroid City yet).
this is the better film
Bruh if this sin counter goes above 100 im sending this to Th3Birdman immediately
i would have loved it if the art sin had a bonus round XD
No movie is without (funny) sin. Especially the ones I love.
Maybe my favourite CinemaSins ever 😅♥
The problem isn't with Wes Anderson films; the problem is with the Cinema Sins narrator's capacity for perfection, which is as it should be.
I'm not a fan of Wes Anderson's other movies (Rushmore is an exception), but I *love* this movie.
The Paddington movies definitely took some influence from this, which is why I love them so much.
God I adore this movie
5:30 (TW: I'm a Film Person) Believe it or not, this has a thematic purpose! One of the movie's underlying themes is the takeover of facism/Nazism in 1930s Europe. Several of the characters can be interpreted as stand-ins for groups who were especially targeted by facism: Monsieur Gustave represents queer people, Deputy Kovacs represents Jewish people, Zero represents immigrants/refugees of color, Serge X represents the French who were subjugated during the German occupation, and Serge's sister, who has a prosthetic foot, represents disabled people.
I think you’re drilling in too deep to it, there is obviously the parallels to fascism and Nazi invasion of Poland but I don’t think characters are intentionally laid out to represent people who were persecuted (unless you can show me where Wes has said this).
Also I don’t think Gustave is queer/gay/whatever I just think he is a little bit camp, it’s well established that he is a GILF hunter
@@sn0wt1gerI mean Monsieur Gustave has stated to go to bed with all of his friends so take it as it is.
around 12:15: You cannot sin a Kosakenzipfel, You can't, You can't, You can't!
"Shaking like a dog shitting razor blades" is a song lyric for a reason. lol
Cinema sun better make this the best video
Hold on here. A CinemaSins episode in the middle of another CinemaSins episode. SINCEPTION! :)
I’ve met the person who created the design props for this film. The attention to detail is insane. The calendar was a mistake even Wes missed. She’s love that 158,000 people got that pointed out lol
Extremely famous for real life miniatures
This review is cracking me up.😂😂😂😂
Daaaang it's about time yall sinned thing 😂 I remember suggesting this some years ago
How in the hell did they get all these actors to be in this movie? That's quite a cast.
All of Wes Anderson's latest movies have had a humongous cast, like this one.
not removing a sin for ralph fiennes preformance
he better get a sin removal when they do the menu or im gonna flip
I’m not a movie person, so please help me. Why does everyone seem to love Wes Anderson movies?
6:57 Maybe my physics are off, but havent cats jumped from two story buildings and were fine? I don't think that fall would have killed it.
The only movie I rewatched on the same day
Bro got overwhelmed by a Wes Anderson film 💀
Awesome.
Now do Royal Tenenbaums. :)
Yo you gotta do Surf Ninjas. Even even at the cost of accidentally giving Rob Schneider attention.
Watching a Wes Anderson film is like playing a Halo Campaign on Legendary.
Your self-confidence is obliterated within the first 30 seconds.
Well, let me tell you the story when I watch this when I was about 15 because my school decides to see this movie when I was in year 11 and one of the scary thing is when the head chopped off and it scared so much that I poop, my pants like crazy
