Cut-Rate Commander - Precon Upgrade Guide for Maestros Massacre & Anhelo, the Painter from Streets of New Capenna #MTG
The new head of the Maestro's crime family, Anhelo, the Painter, is ready to create his next masterpiece, and he's lending us his skills to helm this precon upgrades where he'll be using his minions to fuel our spellcasting capabilities.
In this build, we’ll be building on the base builds gameplan of copying spells for value and damage by expanding on our capability to create expendable tokens for Anhelo to sac to double our spells, adding in powerful spells that are capable of winning games on their own, especially when copied, more value focused spells that want to be copied by Anhelo be become even better, and finally adding in potent payoffs to get us even more value as we sling our spells. And if everything goes according to plan, out torrent of spells will leave our opponents as Anhelo’s latest masterpiece.

May I suggest the cards Arterial Flow and Syphon Mind? I know it is quite evil, but these cost 3 and 4 Mana and help you to get an insane card advantage.
Arterial Flow helps you burn the enemy to death especially with Twining Staff and discard insane 6 cards... Same is true for Syphon mind. 3 cards discard and 9 cards draw is absurd. xD
Dark Petition is also insanely cheap and giveS you BBBBBB Mana back, for another copy.

I bought this commander deck SPECIFICALLY for her..(I don't care for the flamboyant Vampire)..
I think she is a hidden gem that a lot of people haven't seen much of, mainly cuz this particular Precon didn't get a lot of love..

Just wanna say that this is by far the best format for a precon upgrade video that I’ve seen. Informative, straightforward, and easy to follow. Other Magic CZcamsrs I’ve seen either only swap out 10 cards, which isn’t enough to get the deck up to par, or replace so many cards that it hardly resembles the original idea. This right here is the perfect formula.
Glad you think so! I've been working hard on getting the formula down for both the building and formatting for these deck techs, so its good to hear that they are being enjoyed!
I completely agree with that sentiment. The end breakdown for the math guys was honestly my favorite part of this awesome video, I instantly gravitated to Anhelo among the other Commanders. Outstanding work.
He also added further upgrades that, yes may be pricey, but it's pretty apparent which card to swap for those too!

This is by far my favorite Deck Building channel! I've built 3 decks from here and they are fun to play, i do hope to see the Obscura deck tech next, I've been wanting like a spy theme to go with them but having trouble myself doing so 😅

Anhelo was the top pick for my playstyle this commander set, nice to see him get the spotlight this week

Phoenix tribal does seem like it would be fun and Syrix would certainly be the bird to lead them.

Glad you enjoyed the build! Giada makes for a great Mono White Angels build and Jaxis can do a lot with the token creation she has access to, so I can see either being a really fun build around!

Glad to hear you've been enjoying them! So far, my favorite had been Maestro's Massacre - I just love the casualty mechanic and am happy we have a commander for it, since its unlikely we'll be seeing it for a while after this set.
For future upgrade guides, is there anyway you could make a list of just the cards you upgrade? Would be handy for purchasing them. Love the content, made me go out and buy this deck!

This time around I won't be able to sadly (since most of the scripts and audio are already in the process of being recorded) but it may be worth exploring in future video's.
This is really well done. I am wondering what is your oppionoin on adding gandalf, friend of the shire, or ammass orcs tacked onto spells from lotr? Otherwise it is a good commander and one I am still liking a year later.
Personally I'd love to see the beamtown bullies, or from the non commander portion jinnie fay looks like a fun take on tokens
I would love to take a crack a The Beamtown Bullies and give our opponents some very, VERY, bad creatures. Jinnie Fay would also be a nice build around for a Cat/Dog token build as well.
I didn't really like this precon at first, but I am liking these changes!

Xander is a bit pricey at $4 for a commander but if I do a increased budget build I'll certainly consider him as one of the options (assuming his price doesn't come down - in which case we may see him sooner).

This is a pretty solid list I think it might be a mistake not to use 2 cmc copy spells they are great in this deck. If you use teach for example for instance plus 1 sac it triples another spell vs recurring or casting a different spell on another turn. Puppeteer clique also feels pretty solid for 5 you get a big creature swing and sac it to copy a spell. Then you sac clique to copy a spell persisting and bringing back another large hasty creature to swing with and copying again then clique copies a 4th spell. That is a pretty solid rate with the perks.
Fair points - the tricky thing I find is finding the balance between the spells we want to copy and the copy effects themselves - too many and we'll only be drawing the copy spells and not the spell we want to copy, and too little and we'll almost never draw the copy spells themselves.
Puppeteer Clique is also a good card, but it does require our opponents to have something in their grave for us to grab resulting it being a dead card for us sometimes - which is why it lost its place in this build but I can see still being used depending on your preference.
@@GrazzetMTG it probably depends on how spiky you want the deck to be also since you have the similar to Kalamax copy spell combos that grant you unlimited copies which translates to unlimited mana or creatures or damage. Oops I accidentally got a million treasure tokens becomes a thing.
I really liked how you gave high end additions too. I just wish you mentioned what to swap them for.

I feel like skullcamp would be good in this deck, getting to draw an extra two cards for 1 mana when you sac your dorks
Very true! Sadly with the clamp being $10 we had to skip it in the core build - but it would make for a great upgrade if you want to splurge for it or if you have one in your collection already.

Great video! I didnt try the upgraded version yet but I thought about replacing Make an Example with Mana Geysir, what are your thoughts about that change?
I think Mana Geyser is a spectacular card to copy for the bonkers amount of mana it can generate, but the core deck doesn't really have any spells to pump all that into to get you the win. I would consider adding a few X damage dealing X spells to make the most out of it. I would consider swapping it our for something other than Make an Example, since it does allow us to wipe "the best half" of our opponents board of our choice and then again with Anhelo, making is a pretty solid boardwipe overall in my opinion.
I am interested in Vazi, Keen Negotiator. She is really unique for a Jund commander, and I would love to see what you do with her.
She is definitely a politics heavy commander, which we don't see too much of in Jund - could certainly make for a interesting build around.
What would be a good/best opening hand? Any tips?
I first played this deck today and I couldnt do anything cuz I couldnt kill any important creatures or counter spells. And mana problems I guess cuz bad hand decision
What is your take on a non-budget version of this deck? Great deck tech, had so much fun with the list 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Sadly I don't really have a full increased budget for this build since I have not been able to test with a increased one - but I would recommend taking a look at the upgrades section in the breakdown to get some idea's on what hire priced card can be slotted in that fit the game plan. From there, I would say the landbase would be the next spot to spend some extra money on to get faster fixing with shocks and fetch lands, which will increase the base price significantly.

After seeing the amount of good cards that come in this deck, I realized that it actually feels like an improvement over the last structured ones.
Still, I don't know if the price increase is justified.

Truly a glorious deck that makes everyone yell "BLOODY MURDER". Testing will definitely be quite the experience... will this build be better than the Riveteer one though? We'll see.

Sadly I do not know one of the top that I can recommend and just a quite check on youtube didn't bring up any builds for her either... Such a shame, since she is an very interesting political commander

Did you say in the beginning of the video that his casualty ability works from the command zone? If so how ?
It doesn't. I meant that this is a means to copy our spells that we have access to from the command zone, as in we can easily summon him to get access to it instead of drawing into it from our deck. Hope that clears that up and sorry for the confusion.

What about a Phabine, Boss Confidant landfall and/or Extra Combat Phase deck?
I feel Phabine, Boss Confidant would thrive in a more "group hug" style build where you help everyone at the table but help yourself more than the rest. The extra combat steps are certainly a cool twist though, to allow her to get extra used our of her Parlay to make more tokens and make them all bigger more often. Good suggestion!
@@GrazzetMTG I mean, there is also a lot of cards that create tokens with landfall effects, like Maja or Felidar Retreat. It would be kinda of a "large and tall" token deck, but I also get your idea of a "group hug" deck. Thanks for answering me!
