    Thank you for making this video! It helped a lot! There is one last question I have, Pavel. I will be staying in Croydon for 2 weeks and travelling into London almost daily to sight-see. If that's the case, which one would you recommend for me? Thank you. :) And Happy New Year!!!

    • @CuriousPavel
      @CuriousPavel  Před 5 lety

      Hi Kylie, happy new year:))
      as you said "almost daily" I would recommend to use PAYG (Pay as you go). Just top up some amount on your Oyster Card or directly go Contactless if you have a UK bank card. The difference in the price will come if you buy for a longer period like a month.
      There is another option: there are railcards that are only for the Railways. I tried to look for prices but could not find anything specific. Ask the staff at any station and make a basic math. The good thing about Croydon is that you will have trains from there going to Victoria & London Bridge. With a change you can get to Waterloo and Camden Town. If the math is in your favour to take only a railcard, then travel to the city and then walk around. If the distance is too long sometimes, then take a bus. It is only £1.50 and if you take a second bus within 1 hour from the first journey, the second trip is for free. Just use the same card;)
      Drop me a message @curiouspavel on Instagram or Facebook and let me know what interests you have. I can make you a personal plan for a better experience:)

      @CuriousPavel  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Shah,
      Last time I checked you can't purchase a travel card from the website with a contactless method.
      Either use contactless to travel or buy a card from the machines at the stations.
      Or if you mean toping up your oyster, you can do that even by using the oyster card app.
      Have a look at the videos

    Good video. I travel via bus and then take jubilee line. The travel in the jubilee line is from zone 2 to zone 2? And I will be undertaking this journey for a long time.
    In this case, what should be the best option for me?
    Thank you in advance!

    • @CuriousPavel
      @CuriousPavel  Před 6 lety

      Hi Bothra. Thanks for the question.
      If you don't want to be bothered with topping up your Ouster Card then just go contactless. It's gonna be the same for weekly travels. However, if you buy a monthly Oyster, then you'll save instead of buying every week. Also, if you buy a yearly card, you'll also save (a month or even more of paying).
      Hope this helps :)

    I use the bus a lot and get a monthly bus pass. I rarely use the tube but when I do I top up my oyster. Would you advise me to use my contactless card instead?

    • @CuriousPavel
      @CuriousPavel  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Rishi,
      if it is rarely that you use the tube, I believe using your contactless card would be enough. You will get the same charges. If you still want to keep using your Oyster, I can recommend to use the App to top up. It is much, muuuch more easier rather than going to any stations to top up there. Here is a video explanation of the app --> czcams.com/video/Hf9Hg-UCgtA/video.html

    Hey thanks for the video it's very helpful however I have one question. I'm going to London for 7 days from a Sunday to the next Sunday and every day I only plan to travel in zones 1-2 except the second last day on the Saturday where I'm going to Tottenham stadium which will be beyond those zones. Does this mean it will ruin the weekly cap for that one journey and I will be charged way more if I went over it? I was just going to use my contactless but I wonder if I should get an oyster card and then just use my contactless for that one journey so it doesn't mess up the weekly cap? I'm in the UK so I don't get charged extra on contactless. And is a 7 day travelcard worth it? I saw it's a paper thing and works a bit differently because I pay in advance and get unlimited travel. I hope you understand what I mean about the zones and the weekly cap because of that journey, thanks.

    • @CuriousPavel
      @CuriousPavel  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi
      Thank you:)
      Yes, that would mean you would mess up the weekly cap.
      Oyster is better than paper tickets.
      Or just use another contactless.
      Hope that helps:)

    Hey hoping you can help me! I'm going to London for 5 days. My hotel is in zone 2 and we're probably just going to stay in zone 1 and 2. We are also going to travel to the hotel from gatwick airport and want to go to Stonehenge. I'm confused with what I should get. A travel card or Oyster card? And then can I add more money just for the airport trips and Stonehenge trip?

    • @CuriousPavel
      @CuriousPavel  Před 6 lety +2

      sure thing!
      Lets start with the transport from the airport. You will not need neither a travel card or an Oyster card. You will need to buy a ticket either from there or online before that. Don't bother online to be honest. Trains may get you to central London slightly faster but they are much more expensive than the buses. All the transport options will bring you to the major places in the city like Victoria coach Station or Liverpool street. From there you can get the public transport. AVOID TRAVEL CARDS. Get an Oyster card and you will get better rates. You can order your Oyster Card online from this website -> goo.gl/LWBZyj and it can be delivered to your home address or for a cheaper delivery order it to your hostel or friends you stay with. It was 2 pounds delivery in UK if I remember correctly.
      To Stonehenge you wont be able to travel with the Oyster Card. Similar as with the airport transfer, you will need to buy a train ticket(s). Ask the staff at the underground while you are travelling in the city. They are usually very friendly.
      You can always add money to your Oyster card. When you go through the barriers you will see your balance displayed. You can also check it at the machines.
      Here's a playlist we put together that covers all about the travelling about London -> czcams.com/video/sMWcIl-bx1w/video.html
      Five days is not much for a big city like London. I might be able to help you out with that. I am offering a free walking tour in central London. We will see the main things and you will get to know something about them. Here's more about the tour: curiouspavel.com/?page_id=1131

    Great travel advice, here. Travel in London is so expensive and can be really confusing as far as tickets etc goes. I think many travellers from overseas would avoid buying an Oyster as they think "oh, I'm only here for a short time", not realising they will more than get their money back on the savings from the capping, and also that their deposit is refundable. My Mum went to London last year, and I lent her my Oyster card and topped it up online for her, so she was ready to go when she got there!
    Another really positive point, from a tourist's point of view, is that your journey history is online so when you get home to your humdrum existence again, after the dizzying sights, sounds and smells of London, you can look at your journey history and marvel about where you've been: "Oh, that was when we visited the Victoria & Albert Museum, etc ("South Kensington to Paddington")"
    Another lovely day in your office. Thanks, guys. Cheers, Michael.

    • @CuriousPavel
      @CuriousPavel  Před 6 lety +1

      +Michael Gask yes, indeed. Many people don't bother with the Oyster because of their "short stay". And the fact that you can see your journeys is a great tip indeed. I didn't think to point that out but really it might be a point of interest to some.
      Thanks, Mike:)

      I have a question. Does the capping mean eg I am in one day in 10 busses and in 10 tubes. Then the cap will count bus+underground ? So 4+8 pound for eg Zone 1/2. that means it will cost for this day 12 pound ?

    • @michaelgask
      @michaelgask Před rokem +1

      @@gunesyldz8553 Yes. That’s right. As long as you use your card, it keeps track of your bus/tube/tram/DLR journeys and when you have reached the cost of the daily cap, everything after is free (as long as it is in the same fare zones)

    • @michaelgask
      @michaelgask Před rokem

      @@gunesyldz8553 currently the daily cap for Zones 1 and 2 is £7.70 so you can travel all day in Zones 1 and 2 and after you reach £7.70 all trips (in Zone 1 and 2) will be free. In March, the price goes up to £8.10

    I have used an oyster for 3 of my trips to London. Now we have contactless cards in the USA and ours has no foreign transaction fees. We use Visa from Bank of America and use it contactless at home all the time. Will these cards work for TFL? Do I need to register the cards with TFL before using them?

    • @CuriousPavel
      @CuriousPavel  Před 3 lety +1

      Contactless card works on the tfl. The only thing you'll have is the exchange rate and I don't know what that would be.
      You cans till register your contactless with TFL if you wish. That way you can track your travels
