- In the second of a four-part series, Daniel Deardorff continues the Slavic story of "Ivan and the Grey Wolf" featuring The Firebird at the 2008 Minnesota Men's Conference, followed by a in-depth discussion of the story with conference attendees, led by Daniel and fellow storyteller Martin Shaw.
I like how His Wolf was like, "oh...a Princess...you hang back, little boy.
I got this."
the wolf doesnt want him to mess that up
Thank you !
It's interesting the Ivan opts for the left side of the road because in traditional society the left-side represented something unexpected, in fact the original word for 'sinister' was someone who was left-handed and even now in American society an unexpected development is called 'out of left-field'. I do have one question though? In pre-Christian Russian mythology/folklore what did the wolf represent?
that's what the entire discussion after the story is probing at.
instinct. impulse. "conscience" guiding "consciousness", but with a voice of what the INDIVIDUAL wants, in order to become a MAN as opposed to what his community had been telling him he wants as a CHILD
I hate it when thoughts come into my head. 😖
Ivan the natural manipulator, wants to test what harm could it do? his curosity leads him on an adventure full of excitement manipulating the wolf (the system) because he knows its weakness.
