Van has got soul in spades. That is a given.

This performance by Van the Man brings back such sweet memories for me. Van is such a soulful singer and he seems almost posessed singing this awesome song. All I can say is TURN IT UP when you listen.

The "Last Waltz" film is fortunately full of memorable performances. You must see it, Shawn. It really captures an exceptional era in popular music.

Sat my teenage kids down ,said "Watch this", then left the room. I recognise that smile on your face from how they reacted. Possibly the greatest live performance ever.

This is a really fun performance. The dancing is ridiculous. The whole night was magical. I think Thanksgiving night! You need to watch the whole night.

    Greatest mic drop ever!!

Apt that this should drop this week as I saw a quote from somebody in the audience that night who said, 'The guy that really blew my away was Van Morrison. Jesus, he really lit the place up.' That audience member...Gordon Lightfoot (who was invited to appear on stage but declined - shame, as it would have been the only time he and Dylan shared a stage in public had he gone on).
You really need to see the full film, but if you want a couple more individual performances Joni Mitchell's Coyote and Muddy Waters doing Mannish Boy are among the highlights. I always half-joke that it's my favourite Martin Scorcese film but - as Levon Helm was very vocal about - it is terribly shot in places. Doesn't really detract from the music though and that is magnificent.

Good call JSB as Coyote is a great song. The Staples were there too. Stephen Stills. Eric Clapton. Ron Wood!

The Last Waltz really is worth watching in its entirety. Directed by Martin Scorsese... who knows how to direct a movie. Loads of great performances, but the highlights are Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, The Staple Singers, Ronnie Hawkins, Dr John and Paul Butterfield.

You need to see The Last Waltz. There isn't a bad performance. Well, except maybe Neil Diamond, but he really had no business being there anyway.
