Shiva (LOW LEVEL, HARD) | Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2

- No more rules.
Remember when I said, "No rings until necessary"? Well it's necessary now. The optional bosses at this point in the game have VERY hard hitting skills, and I need lots of health to survive them. I'm going to try and to only use Vitality rings, but that may change with Seth.

Strategy
Shiva has shifting resistances, and that means no mindless attacking with one skill, over and over again. You have to put that one brain cell to use.
This is how Shiva resistances work/starts
Fire/Ice
Fire/Ice
Ice/ Elec
Elec/Force
Force/Earth
Earth
All Magic
However, after Shiva completes that first cycle. It will change to this.
Fire/Ice
Ice/ Elec
Elec/Force
Force/Earth
Earth
All Magic
To avoid confusion, I came up with a simple way to keep up with Shiva's shifting. All you have to do is use the most useful skills for this fight, and label them.
Fire/Ice - Ice 1
Ice/ Elec - Ice 2
Elec/Force - Force 1
Force/Earth - Force 2
Earth
All Magic
Obviously, the last two are pretty easy to remember when reaching that point. I just needed something to help me keep track until then. That's just how I did it.
The battle of the Buffs/Debuffs
Here's the thing, Shiva uses Dekaja, Dekunda, and Debilitate a lot... Enough to drive anyone to insanity (I would know). Anything you do, he will most likely undone, and I think he gets some kind of sick pleasure from it. All you can do is fight it the best you can, but It's very easy to lose control or track of Shiva's resistances. This fight is all about multitasking, and once you get use to it. It's not so bad. However, luck is needed for this fight for sure.
I'm going to bed now.

kinda sucks that he doesn't indicate his elemental affinities with his patterns unlike most other Resistance Shifting Bosses
The destroyer hot destroyed
It’s almost like Shiva never left, he’s always a highlight for these low level runs. I’d ask if this was harder than his battle in SMT:V, but I think it’s safe to say this is easily more difficult given the number of variables you have to manage: from constantly changing weakness to annoying status’s, on top of not having the quality of life we have these days. Both fights are hard for similar reasons, but the PS2 era of Megami Tensei really just has this vibe to it.
Don't forget bullshit rng
@@blastmole299 ESPECIALLY bullshit RNG
if you hit him with an almighty attack he will respond with third eye cause its more powerful than megidolan
He looks so exhausted when he has low HP!
If there's one detail I appreciate in Megaten, it's that the bosses always have low HP animations. It's like the devs are encouraging you to keep going
All that hip shakin
Strange!!!!during i fighting with shiva-he keep using thired eyes-but you!!!!!any way you done well
There are 2 rules (no hints nor indicator, you just have to learn it the hard way) that makes him spamming third eye.
1. Using almighty attacks
2. Buffing/debuffing more than 2 stacks. This one is worse cause he'll use a charged Third Eye and Ragnarok
Just finished this game, had a good time with it. What's the next game you want to cover?
Glad to hear that! I have no clue what I'm doing next. I guess I'm still kinda thinking about it.
Here’s the real question. Is this version or the smt v version worse.
This version.
In V he has a weakness.
However, because of the way V uses level as a stat, low level gives him insane amounts hp.
This version
V he hits hard and has lots of hp, but he has a weakness and a generally more fair fight
In this, there's a gimmick on top of his hard hitting moves, his weakness doesn't grant extra press turns, only increased damage
