In a world of dying manual sports cars, I am so happy to see Nissan make this car.
I kept saying if we didn’t see a manual Supra, this Z would be the last of the best manual cars to exist. I really think in a couple years, they’ll do away manuals and push electric sport cars. Tesla will release their roadster, which will be super expensive, but it will influence the industries to get competitive and make electrics of their own.
@@FatalFist Well it’s to be expected. Emission regulations are gonna force car companies to stop making ICE vehicles altogether. When that happens, I suspect that these cars will shoot up in value despite the cost of owning one.
I'm glad I got my Maxima with the 5 speed, I am going to get this Z with the six speed. In white. With the black top, black wheels.
I don’t think so, almost all cars in Europe have a manual option and almost all cars are made to option, barely any dealership has any cars on their lot as there isn’t any interest in that, just for end of the year sales. It’s cheap to put in a manual for the European manufacturers, it never costs much to even design that. I believe many are here to stay and Porsche will definitely make manual EVs
@@brimsum i still hope the majority of people will eventually see through the climate fraud fog
This is easily the best thing Nissan has produced in a long time.
the r35 still exists you know that right 😂
@@ibeentossinaunties for the price 😂
I think I'll just leave Supra behind this Z.
Everything nissan has produced recently tends to suicide itself so of course this is good
@@ibeentossinaunties the R35 has been around for almost 15 years, it’s outdated as hell and overpriced. It was an amazing car in 2008 but now it’s just desperately trying to cling on
I love how the interior is just an interior. Function over form, no BS
For real. I’m tired of interiors having gimmicks with screens everywhere and tacky fake luxury crap. This and the GR86/BRZ really nailed the no fuss approach.
Agree. If I can help it I will never buy a sports car with touchscreen digital climate controls.
Agreed. I like it.

The interior is what I like the most. Looks so so good.
I love all the automotive journalists on CZcams, but nothing quite puts you in the driver's seat like these POV reviews
Can't wait to see what the Tuner community does with this platform.
Absolutely, they have a head start with the vr30, and I think the retro body kits are going to look killer
There is already a ton of people who tuned the Q60 Red Sport which has the same engine (with minor differences)
Z1 and racebox basically already have everything dialed in on the platform
@@soapa4279 the differences are pretty major, the fuel injectors and fuel pumps have been upgraded, I believe the heat exchanger was also upgraded. this car should be substantially better especially when you consider the weight difference
@@wesgreen2812 can vouch for this. My turbos blew at 17k miles and had coolant issues. Luckily all I had was an aftermarket exhaust at the time and they replaced under warranty. Another thing to note is to swap out the turbos on this car you need to drop the engine which is a bitch in itself if you tried to do it yourself or pay someone to do it as its much more work. Would never buy another Nissan product. This isnt just my experience either but countless others Ive seen post about it in the FB groups over the 2 years I owned it. People will find out this 3.0 motor is not very reliable themselves tho
Imagine being on a roadtrip at this place and time and seeing all these Zs driving past you

Great review! I always appreciate your reviews because you actually really drive the car and it gives your viewers a realistic perspective.
The incorporation of the cupholder on the door facing the vent was a genius move; never again will I have to sip on a warm pop on a summer's drive.

Nice to see you do videos in my backyard🔥🔥! Especially the one I've been waiting 3 years for haha! And I only wanted to see you review this man! Nice work as always!
Finally !!!! Ive been waiting for Topher to drop this. IMO he is a master at driving a car with a manual transmission
the POV video's hit differently, top notch.
Very delighted that the marketing focus on ‘engagement’ and ‘drivers car’ was not pure bullshit. Looks like Z team really cared about making this a fun and meaningful street/sports car.
As soon as I watched the smoking tires video I cam here. Your driving style is more of what I personally would want to do with the car in my area, over driving high speeds on big open roads. Great video and I really like how your videos cover more of the thought process if finding a new daily more than adding a 2nd or 3rd car
Really great style cues to the original Datsun Z's as well are previous Nissans. Seems like a very fun car!
There's a pretty audible sound from the turbos too, which is great! I can imagine the aftermarket for this car should be pretty wild.

What an absolute beaut. Another knockout design for the 2020s. It really gets my hopes up as to what projects are coming for the rest of the decade, even with the potential for it to be another letdown like the 2010s.
I think we’re seeing the last (plus the next Supra), everything will start shifting to electric within the next decade.

Happy Nissan Z Party Chris
Seeing so many z's passing gives me chills😍
I love how vibrant the colors look on the Nissan Z, from the blue to the Yellow in Proto Spec, they look very bright and catch my eyes.
I’m excited to see what aftermarket support this will have in the coming months/years:)
I'm picking up my 2022 GR86 this week, but I sure do love Nissan's new Z! We should consider ourselves lucky that our favorite manufacturers are still producing fun to drive sports cars like these, in this era of crossovers and electrification.
Happy motoring, everyone!
Hope you're enjoying it! It's kind of sad that these are really the only two FR sport coupes nowadays. Otherwise you have boring souped up typical traffic cars like the TRD Camry or the new Civic Type R.
@@BRZguy Thanks very much! Appreciate the kind reply!
Hey there, i saw that you considered a Z! I am from a Nissan dealership and reaching out to everyone in the market for one because we just got one! Feel free to reach out to let me know if you are interested!
I think Nissan has made a future classic with this one. It'll be remembered in 20 years the same way we remember the 300zx. Beautiful design and enough potential to make monster power.
The Z brings a retro-futuristic design.
Awesome review!! Can’t believe I’m saying this about a Nissan, but I really like this thing. Shows that Nissan can do great things when given the opportunity. I can honestly say I’d much rather have this over the Supra, for the value factor (significantly cheaper than a similarly powered Supra), the suspension design, and the looks. The blue is fantastic on this car. Also, the fact that it stil has a mechanical handbrake is a huge plus.
@@MT-xl8jy not all of us want a German built engine though. I don't really care how "refined" it is when I have work on it or have it worked on. Cheaper, easier, and more reliable to keep it jdm.
@@MT-xl8jy yupppp
@@enjoiandrew4 inline six is easier to work on. Your comment clearly displays you've never worked on a sports car before
You also get a mechanical handbrake vs electric handbrake on the Supra.
@@enjoiandrew4 BMW's inline six performance engines have some of the best reliability in the game, takes power mods really well, and sound incredible. People don't realize Toyota worked w/BMW for this reason above all else? Nobody else has an engine that resembles what the MK4 2JZ had. JDM reliability 2000 and onward hasn't been spectacular in the performance world overall
Everything from the S54 and similar to the B58/S58 have incredible reputation for a reason. Considering the performance trim on the new Z only runs ~3k cheaper than the 3.0 Supra, the manual variant of it coming for 2023 is going to make a lot of people "suddenly" say the GR Supra is a top tier car.
This is going to give me an idea of what it really feels like to drive.

I'm a huge Nissan fan. Have only owned Nissan vehicles since 1992. I can count on one hand the number of times they have let me down (knock on wood). Currently have a 2015 Xterra Pro-4X with 90,000 miles. Only two small warranty issues in seven years. Also own a 2017 370Z 6MT which has been tastefully modded and is now at 48,000 miles. Drive the hell out of it and it has been super reliable so far. Can't believe Nissan came through and made the car I always wanted- will be getting this new Z in a couple years!
I’ve been waiting for this car for a long time. Glad to see the handbrake. At 3500 pounds I think it’s on the heavy side. I’m glad they made it. It looks awesome.
compared to some of newer cars it fits in perfectly I think, the Supra is only 100lbs lighter, the 2022 Audi S3 also weighs 3500lbs and the 2022 BMW M240i is 3800lbs.
this car is honestly amazing, not only does it capture alot of the older z's but in this day in age of boring ass looking cars, this is so far my #1 looking car out the 2020's
Edit: also damn, 15psi for 400hp this is a lovely machine
psi isnt really the metric you wanna use, how much volume of air that is being forced upon that psi is what really matters, but i also totally understand what your saying and 15 psi is quite lovely indeed

50K plus for a sport model + dealer markup = no freaking way
Yeeeaaa love the vids Topher
I like the movement of the shift lever when taking off the gas and starting, it means that the connection between the driver and the drivetrain is quite direct. :D
Now they just need to bring the s chassis back
I wonder if an aftermarket blowoff valve or wastegate would be good here. Some fluttering and phsst sounds when letting off throtle would improve it 10x
Just got with intakes for that. This is a recirculating system so venting to air isn’t something you want to be doing to the engine. Pretty much guaranteed to make it run rich and wasting fuel.
@@marcusmcneal7453 no benefit to a bov?
@@esantiago8989 Nothing other than noise. Venting the air out drops boost pressure below the ECU’s target, so BOVs on a recirculating system just creates more turbo lag. They’re fine if the engine is designed to do this, but basically no modern turbo engines are.
@@marcusmcneal7453 I appreciate. I have a FBO N but don't have a bov and always worried if I should get one. I get plenty of turbo noise with my intake and hybrid turbo. It's a recirc system and my intake uses the stock recirc.

The Nissan Z and Subaru WRX used to be comparable in terms of performance. That’s not the case anymore. Subaru really dropped the ball with the 2023 WRX. It needs 290 horsepower at least.

HONDA, BRING BACK THE S2K!
Everyone seems to be saying the Supra has a better interior than the Z. Am I missing something here? The Z seems to have the same if not much better interior, look at all of the nice gadgets they’ve added to the Z. The Supra has a tiny infotainment, smaller dash with less information, etc.
As a big MK5 fan, I still think the Z’s interior is better.
The Z has room for a 6'3" driver, and is not as claustrophobic as a Supra.
Very nice driving footage
This is the most anticipated car of 2022 in my books! I will have the auto thank you! Wait until the tuners get their hands on these!
Nice car, as a Z enthusiast i see this being a good all around sports car for most. But I’ll stick with my 370z , getting a used 370 and maybe going for a single turbo or SC if ur looking for more power. Its probably a cheaper and better option for some. Plus the curb weight of 3600 ish is kinda meh for a sports car like this
In other words. I can’t afford the payments so I’m gonna stick to my clapped out 370 and make it seem like it isn’t just about the price so my ego gets a boost. Good work.
@@cultureeeeee3599 I mean if you think a 10 000 mile 370 is clapped out sure man 🙂

Nice review
I love this car, although it seems underwhelming compared to what I'd hoped for... also the interior seems a little too low end or old for a $50k car... and the sounds when closing doors sound a little cheap too.... still LOVE how this pays homage to the older cars, I also love how the center air vents have a similar look to the cutouts on the front grille....
$59k as tested. I’m not even entertaining the idea of a $60k Z. Going to wait 2 or 3 years when they’re worth less than half that.
@@yamabushi_nate7825 yeah, at $60k you’re getting into c7 corvettes, ZL1s, used m3 etc. these new car prices are ridiculous. This Z is nice but I’m seeing a $35-40k car here.
The interior is amazing! The cars with the laptop screens are going to age horribly in the future. Glad this one is modest with it.
Been back and forth between this and the supra for me - think after seeing this the supra is my clear choice. Supra has a more upscale look inside and out I feel, the supra sounds better, supra has better fuel economy, I don't mind the lack of manual and I don't really like the black top on the Z. I will say the Z has better color options and looks fantastic from the rear, and it looks like a great car all things considered.
If you do want the manual, the Supra will be equipped with it soon
The Supra has a way newer chassis and drivetrain, way nicer interior, better mileage, and will hold its value better. I really love that Nissan made this new Z, and I think it's great aesthetically but relative to the Supra in that $50k range it's a tough sell IMO. But at least it was done in-house vs being farmed out...
Just wait for the manual Supra to come and test drive both. After seeing the 400z, I have no regrets lol. The only downside is that you see mkv's everywhere. I would love to test drive the 400z though!
@@DezNutzBich That's funny, I have yet to see a single MKV on the road, and very few at dealers. In SW FL.

This car looks amazing. Hopefully one day I can see this in my driveway. Always been a 370z fan just didn’t think it had enough power. I still think they should’ve called it the 300zx or the 400zx tho. Maybe it’s just the nostalgia factor but I think it sounds better.
The front end still hasn't grown on me.
Looks surprisingly good! But for the same price you can get a camaro 2ss 1le... which is in a different league performance wise... assuming you like the looks! This was the choice I made
The Z looks way better to me, I'm keeping my pre order. 58K CAD ain't cheap for the performance but it's also not bad compared to rivals.
Definitely agree hell found a few 2022 1SS 1LE for 44-45K 100 pounds heavier but more power and better interior also sounds ways better no lift shifting auto rev matching ….the list goes on…..I’ll be getting a 1SS 1LE this year for sure
