Joe Devine, Jon Mackenzie and Reuben Pinder are here to talk about some football.
We talk about the potential sackings of Javi Gracia and Victor Orta at Leeds United.
At the time of recording Sam Allardyce has been linked with the Elland Road hot seat so the chaps discuss what that would look likeâŠ
Staying at the bottom of the table we talk about Leicester City drawing 2-2 with Everton and the wider relegation battle.
It was a very âgoallyâ weekend with two 4-3 results, one of which was Liverpool winning 4-3 against Tottenham. A game which exposed the deep, deep flaws in both of these teams.
We also whizz through Man Utd Aston Villa and the Serie A table at a depth which is wholly inadequate.
Plus volcanic eruptions and StonehengeâŠ

Please don't kill this podcast, it's the only football podcast I watch and the unhinged conversations are the best đđ
The podcast isnât canned. They are just changing the format
@@JamailvanWesteringit may as well be though if itâs going to be interviews
@@hdtube7 it probably wonât just be interviews
Totally concur!
Unhenged content*
I don't want to tell you how to do things, but there's a reason so many people watch and love the Tifo Football Podcast and it isn't for interviews hosted by Jon. We like the relaxed, conversational atmosphere. It's accessible and is genuinely a great way to get people into football/into talking about football. High-level interviews on teams and tactics will not be the same even if it's 'higher quality'.
Jon is the reason I stopped watching. He sucks the life out of it
Disagree, I think Jon is perfectly placed to host an entertaining and informative podcast.
â@Zombie Milhouse He isn't. I apologize for being harsh, but he is the least interesting member of this panel, and he's been a clear downgrade from the deadpan delivery of Alex Stewart. This podcast works because it's a group of colleagues discussing the sport and their lives in an irreverent manner. If we wanted serious interviews and analysis, we would be listening to one of the other Atheltic podcasts.
@@jdbolick Yep. Especially when he tries to "zany". I stopped watching any Tifo content with him in it. Nothing personal but he's just crushingly dull.
i may be a broken record but the Total soccer show has a scot, two americans and a brit, and they cover alot of the premier league and europe, and also owned by the athletic. They also do zany questions, and spend fridays discussing a focused topic. Since these guys are owned by the same company you would hope they would just direct people over there since their seems to be a general outcry in the comments about John doing his own "high performance/ Total football analysis" podcast.
I think Jon should do an interview with Joe, JJ, Seb and Rueben about the football from the past week!
đđ
Remember to include Carl Anka!!!
The new format sounds very much like the Athletic Football Podcast. I like both, but I listen to Tifo for what it isâŠ

I know youâve already said that this is going to be the end, but please please please reconsider Joe - this podcast is genuinely excellent entertainment. Maybe thereâs space for both this version and also the new format to co-exist?
Exactly. It seems like theyâve gotten burnt out from it but please at least keep it going once every two weeks or once a month at the least
Mommy, why do good things have to die?" "Because joe Devine is an evil man and hates us"
Facts đą
Iâm not sure if you realise why this podcast is successful.
This here is the best football centric podcast that is reliably funny. Jon seems like a nice enough bloke with good footballing analysis but he is serious, dour and pedantic. Heâs a great foil. A straight man. Heâs a bit of a Howard moon. He needs a Vince Noir.
Iâve read the rest of these comments. We all want an off-kilter and surreal podcast loosely based around football but one that regularly strays off into whimsical irreverence.
I reckon Joe and co. that you are probably bored or burned-out.
Understandable, it has been a long footballing year, but I hope when the new pod format fails you reconsider and come back. We love this pod!
couldnt agree more. They captured lightning in a bottle with this podcast
I don't think it's a coincidence that ever since TIFO became part of the Athletic, this podcast has been slowly changing.
@@p_booth_fan honestly, I reckon in the last couple months theyâve really found their stride. I wouldnât change a thing from the last couple eps.
I went to see JJ at The Flower Pot in Walthamstow at the gig mentioned on the previous podcast, and he tore the whole pub down. By the end, everyone was gathered around him, dancing and singing along; heâs just as talented a musician as he is a football analyst. It was a pleasure to meet him too.
JJ, if youâre reading this, thank you for being so gracious in my company - I owe you a beer. To everyone of you, past and present, thank you dearly for helping me fall back in love with football over the last 5 or so years.
With Love.
He bought you a beer?
Any videos?
Nah, he was just good, the performance was free and I figure thatâs the etiquette.
@@johnwhalley8270 I regret not taking any, but to paint a clearer picture, the whole pub was chanting âJJâ at one point and I thought the floor was going to break with all the stomping about!
I do find it a bit confusing that they're dropping this format for something way more "ordinary". If we want serious, in-depth football coverage we'd just go to The Athletic, or any of the many other football CZcams channels.
This podcast is so many people's favourite because of its chaotic, non-serious energy. Joe is just naturally funny, and I consistently laugh out loud every episode when they go off on stupid tangents and get the giggles. Really disappointing that they're just dropping that completely.
It feels very unlikely, but I really hope they reconsider. Or at least replace this podcast with another one fronted by Joe, because I think he really drives the "Tifo" energy.
Sometimes Iâm even disappointed when they edit away so much rambling.
Completely agree.
This podcast must not be cancelled - if it's a case of it taking too much time/effort, reduce the editing, we're here for the banter/chemistry and I fear without this podcast tifo irl will lose a lot of that. If it must die, double down on vids like the advertising of the super League - beautiful and pure unhinged chaos (I think about Alex's interpretative dance at least once a day)
While Iâd love Jon being able to do that, and Iâd listen to every episode, I donât think you guys should totally chuck out THIS format. Itâs a comedy X football podcast that no one else is doing. Donât lose the magic of this particular show.
JAFFN does comedy x football if you're looking for a replacement
@@freddie4613 Agree with this! JAFFN is a little more niche, lots of in-jokes but you catch onto them quickly. I don't take my football too seriously, Tifo and JAFFN regularly have me laughing out loud.
the organic nature of this podcast is not a detriment :/ i understand the need for and/or the pride behind the new shiny format and i will keep listening! but i will really miss this version. nothing else like it.
Be interesting to see how the numbers respond, i have to say i dont listen for the football analysis really its the chemistry, and I'd be surprised if im alone in that
@@sammerry7706 it's the balance that's most important for me. if everything is super super serious then particular details stop feeling important. i like hearing a group of friends talk about football! but i'm sure the numbers will be fine and they'll tap into more of the usual tifo analysis audience

Mystic Rueben absolutely nailed that Arsenal vs Chelsea prediction
I like that no-one acknowledged Jon's "last roll of the dyche" joke
Because JJ already said it... probably a joke around the office that Jon repeated for the 78th time
Please donât change the show. Iâm sure Iâll love Jonâs new show. Just do both!
As a guest for the new podcast I suggest JJ Bull and Joe Devine!
This podcast works because of the chemistry between you guys. The new format sounds pretty dull. Football isn't a serious topic and you guys treat it as such. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. Only found this 6 months ago, will give new one a bash but expectations are low.
I would love to see Jon host a panel discussion 'football dinosaur's - how it feels to be left behind' with Pardew, Hughes, Allardyce and Pulis where they all just take turns angrily moaning at him.
Allardyce is gonna be busy swimming in the pit of money he'll get for the remaining games at Leeds
Must be how a ref feels with bruno moaning
The unforced change to the podcast format reminds me a lot of when The Football Ramble did the same thing and effectively killed the podcast
Adult baby chat in the first 90 seconds, we are blessed by this podcast
Making the impossible, possible
Noooooo, I love yâall talking about the current up to date matches of the week :( this is the best weekly round up EPL podcast, Iâm heartbroken
I don't want it to end
the new format seems a bit dry and dull, but, obviously, it depends on the guests.
I'll listen to the new Dog version of this, but I really wish you'd reconsider. This is such a great show; I'm sure it's a lot of work, I'm sure you all catch a lot of crap for it, but it's also one of the reliably best hours of the week for many of us.
Tifo you've been the thing I've most enjoyed about football for the last few years. This podcast has provided some of the biggest laughs for me. The silly banter and chemisty is what has differentiated it from everything else so it's sad to see that format come to an end. Thanks so much for all you've put out! I especially loved the Euros and World Cup podcasts. Big love â€
Iâll be there for the new format, but Iâm seriously gonna miss this format of the podcast. Itâs been part of my weekly routine for so long đ
I would pay top dollar(euro? pound?) for this podcast to remain in existence
Genuinely going to miss this :(
As much as the new podcast format is definitely going to be slicker, I will miss all the long, pointless conversations about the etmyology of penge/henge. These are the kind of things that have made me tune in every week
Hmm, I really donât want this podcast to change. This has the perfect balance of insight and humour that keeps you going to the very end. Itâs good conversation that you almost feel like you are having with friends. I think it would be a big mistake to not have this anymore.
I for one will be gutted. You can have both, donât need to kill one to have the other.
What I would say is there are many podcasts out there, many that do interviews and guests and stuff. There arenât many that hit like this one. Please donât change it!
Do Not End This Podcast!!
So many watch it for the comedy. This format is a guaranteed laugh when Joe is hosting. The football talk is almost an added bonus.
Joe is the heart of tifo. Even when it wasn't tifo.
We dont want interviews with people in football we want the boys chatting about stone henges!!!
I can only speak for myself obviously but I absolutely love what you guys do here in this podcast... the waffle, the jokes, but also some serious spot on analysis of the games or other events, so I am sad to see it go!
I am sure you will all do great in the new idea, but I will miss the current pod and it's great unique format. You lot not taking yourselves too seriously is your best attribute.
I can only hope for warm hands and cool embraces with the new format. Thanks for the fun!
Such a shame the format is changing. As a football casual, it's the constant side tracking and camaraderie that makes this great!
I now predominantly watch/listen to this for the wheels falling off. The Penge Henge coverage was my favourite part of this. The football kind of got in the way to be honest. More rambling in the remaining episodes please gentlemen!
I think changing the brilliant and irreverent format of the current podcast will be a bad idea
Please donât end this podcast guys. Like, I will send you some cheese or pickles or olives, good quality, I promise, I will do literally bare minimum for you not to kill it, pleeeease.
Bare minumum? Why not do more?
@@cianmurray1392 I feel like they'd want me to do the least I can (it's a joke).
Honestly, the new podcast sounds a lot less tempting to tune into. I recon I will only listen to the few that affect the team I support or relevant for the ongoing season. You already do lots of interesting stuff that I hardly ever have the time or interest to watch. This is the one thing I always listen to.
Same
I do hope the new podcast format will retain the charm of this one. This is the only podcast I listen to fully every week.
All good things come to an end, seems this podcast is coming to an end in terms of the format / people we have enjoyed listening to.
I think Alexâs departure and the core of JJ/Joe/Seb not featuring together regularly is probably what killed it long term. Felt a bit like the magic of the first few years of the podcast left a while ago.
personally disagree, felt like it went up a level with jon dog
I know podcasts go through changes all the time but that new podcast format sounds pretty dreadful. 'Jon goes in depth on one topic' can be found by dozens and dozens of sports podcasts, as others have said a reconsidering of this approach would be great.
If you do continue with the new format, you should consider adding Chris Hamill into the rotation. He is a good interviewer and presenter as reflected on FD, and would be wasted in a hidden role.
One of the few CZcams videos/podcasts out there that isn't cringe and clickbait
Just throwing in my 2 cents...
I listen to the No Laying Up podcast (the most well known golf podcast) and they have a weekly review podcast for the golf from the weekend, a weekly interview with figures from the game (often pre-recorded), and then live shows for the bigger events. Seems like it would tick all the boxes from many commenting but appreciate that it takes a fair bit of man power to produce that much content, and that could be a reason for the change.
Either way, I'll be listening!
You guys really are funny and I completely forget this is about football and then you bring it back. Very entertaining but I suppose not everyone can appreciate this style of humour but works just fine for me haha.. Keep up the good work
Would love to see the return of Humphrey Ker especially now after all that's happened! Of course, if you can get Ryan or Rob that's cool too, I guess.
Didnât expect to hear a shoutout to Penge in this weekâs Tifo Football Podcast
I just discovered this podcast and Iâve found that all the podcasts I enjoy most are more similar to this format. Informal, relaxed, and more down-to-Earth. Itâs a shame to hear thatâs about to end.
I dont even watch soccer and yet iâve tuned into this podcast every week for two years. Dont take this from me! A staple of my Tuesday morning work routine.
John is such a ray of sunshine in these podcasts, he really adds a lot of brevity and listening to him gives me such joy.
You should have joe Devine interview Noam Chomsky on the podcast
his is the best of the Athletic's review/preview podcasts - it has two things consistently that none of the rest do: detailed tactical analysis, and offbeat tangentialsm. It's the one must-listen thing they do.
An interview podcast sounds fun & all... but almost impossible it'll be as important in my week
Appreciate the segement on henges, very informative.
Just found this podcast recently. Thia a very good podcast amd joe is a great podcast host i love this dynamic. Shame its ending
You better come back with the Tifo podcast minus all the football talk
Build a Tifo Henge as a permanent monument to this podcast
nooooo i love the unfiltered nature of this :(((
Happy Belated birthday Reuben đ„ł
Youâre pre-game Lampard analysis was bang on
I dont want this podcast to end, I very much enjoy this nonsense podcast with football sprinkled in.
Get Alastair Campbell on with the pretense of asking him about Burnley but then exclusively interrogate him about his war crimes
new podcast sounds great - the true tradition of Tifo (are you old enough to have a tradition?) but to echo many others here... why drop this weekly review of the Footy? surely both formats are different enough and why not just try the review with no prep and see how it goes? Genuinely, Joe sitting in a room with 2 or 3 of the Tifo Family chewing the off the cuff fat works for me i reckon. For the weekly review we don't need new takes - we just want to know what you think!
come on! why not just try it until the end of the season?
Or is this The Athletic saying "get off our pitch" ?
Maybe get on the chairman or top boardroom manager of a 7th or 8th tier side somewhere, and then ask and learn about how they run stuff at the much lower level of the pyramid that's several levels below the national league
Please donât kill the show đą
Jon Mackenzie rocking the Raptors gear đšđŠ
Nooooooo I like the current pod format, make Jon's interview show it's own separate entity.
Also bring back the Tifo Football Show, it was beautifully awkward, JJ was in his element.
If this is a decision coming from above you guys I get it. But thatâs a mistake. This pod is perfect as is. Do not change or kill it please
Sounds like the show will be going back more to its roots where Joe interviewed would do topic specific interviews with football related people. I believe JJ featured in one episode a couple of years before joining the show. I did prefer it to the current show where the guys just talk about the weekly football news, so looking forward to it.
Maybe we weren't letting you know as much in the comments or reviews prior to your decision. But the current format is great, and the reason you have this niche set of fans for the podcast is because of it's current format. If you are changing to an interview format, please retain multiple speakers and retain the regular diversion to other strange unrelated topics. Also, I very much enjoy the explicit nature of this format, even though you censor the words most times. Well done for all your work over the years.
Yeah this new podcast sounds pointless. I listen to this podcast because of the format, because of the humour and because it's different from the other football podcasts out there. You're killing a great show to replace it with something that sounds the same as any number of podcasts or videos that already exist. Extremely disappointing.
cancelling this format should be convicted as a crime by the court of arbitration in sport
Joe started this podcast purely so that one day he could end it and bathe in our pain.
Facts đ€Ź
Southgate in the background is the ultimate jumpscare
The Allardyce to Leeds deal seems exactly identical to the deal Birmingham made to bring Redknapp in to save them from Championship relegation. 4 games to go and they offered him a huge bonus if he kept them up, and it worked somehow
Where can I find the Dog's apperance on the Second Captains podcast?
okay unnecessarily harsh on Allardyce. He never quit a club in the middle of a relegation battle so that it looks good on his cv.
He was sacked at Blackburn mid season, who got relegated the next season.
He was sacked at West Ham who dumped him after 3 seasons in the prem and 1 in the championship where he got promotion in the first go. West Ham were a better team under the next manager so fair play to them.
He helped Sunderland to safety and then took up the England job when offered, did not resign until the offer was made.
Helped Palace to safety, that was his only resignation without a bigger/better offer in hand, but again at the end of the season.
Helped steady Everton but was booted out by that toxic fanbase and club owners.
Souness leaves Sky⊠Tifo changes the podcast format. COINCIDENCE?!
Devastated that the shows going to end! The banter and joking between the trio crew is what makes the podcast unique and has made me keep listening all the way from the beginning and watching videos when it was stil Umaxit not even todo or the athletic. New format Iâm sure will still be high quality but sounds like a bunch of other shows that already exist. The todo podcast has been unique and different and fun and will be missed
The new format sounds like an Athletic production. It doesn't seem to have the "Tifo" aspect which makes the content special.
Loving John's Raptors sweater!
As an Everton fan, I don't think Michael Keane is a bad footballer per se I think he'd make reasonably tidy midfielder. But I think he's a pretty poor defender at this level. He just doesn't have the presence, reading of the game, speed of thought, aggression, or fleetness of foot to stop goals consistently enough. I think his ball-playing qualities and willing mentality have been allowed to overshadow his lack of quality in the core requirements of central defending. He's one of those weird players who might look better at a bigger club because there's far less pressure put on him individually, and he can chip in with progression. But right now I dread seeing his name listed
Pleasantly surprised to hear the great town of penge getting a mention here. itâs what you tune in every week for
I loved it how Jon Mackenzie dropped the magnificent "last roll of the Dyche" and immediately pivoted subjects. Left me to contemplate the joke alone.
I'm not really a football fan, but my brother is, and he is hard to communicate on anything else. This podcast is how I get my football knowledge! I get that everything must move forward, but I will miss this podcast. Deep football knowledge I can digest because the surreal humour and tangents hold my interest when my mind starts to wander.
Ian Holloway, get him on the pod at all costs
Would love to see an interview with Bruno Saltor, it would be great to hear about his transition from club legend at Brighton into coaching to the whole Chelsea situation. I realise this isnt likely to happen until he has success in the future.
One interview Iâd love to see John try would be one of the peregrine falcons at Stadium MK. Iâd find that hilarious.

ahhhh yes my favorite the tifo intro podcast
I listened to Jon on the 2nd Captains podcast (out yesterday). He was very good. It was odd hearing my two favourite mental podcasts collide. đ
I think the 2nd captains is great example of why you should stick to your unique selling point too. I remember those guys on their Newstalk radio show Off The Ball in the 00s. Arguably, they were partly resonsible for establishing that radio station. In fairness, I don't listen to the 2nd C's podcast, but the vibe between Ken and the rest is what made their show in the 00s so listenable. They knew that too and almost 2 decades later, they are still going strong.
27:02 hello sound guy!
Loved the pre-emptive coverage of Arsenal Chelsea that was bang on the money
Orta, for me, was the single biggest problem at the club.
He's a man who thinks he is bigger than the club, who is desperate to make it all about him.
He got us Bielsa, and there ahs been one or two good signings, but outside of that his record is ABYSMAL.
The JKA saga is one of the biggest jokes in modern football. And now we have finally broken our transfer record on a striker, after 3 years of us calling for a striker, but his decision was to buy a teenager who is currently only good enough for the bench. The mans an idiot.
Ask a Middlesbrough fan how they feel about Orta, Leeds isn't an isolated incident, ORTA is the problem.
Got you to the prem though..
