    How to ride a one wheel cycle, also known as an electric unicycle (EUC), with new tips to make it easier to learn in 2023. I've taught people how to ride an EUC in as little as 3 minutes. In this video, I share some of my tips, with details that can help you learn.
    Is it hard to ride an EUC? It's about the same as riding a bike for the first time. Not super easy, but not super hard either. If you can learn to ride a bike, you can learn to ride an EUC too!

    Other tips and techniques that I didn't have time to show in the tutorial:
    - HOW TO TURN: the simplest way is to aim your "zipper" to where you want to go. Simple!
    - HOW TO FREE MOUNT (launch without support): tip toe on your pushing foot. Press down on the ball of your stable foot, while pushing off with the pushing leg. The key is to accelerate as fast as possible. If you do it timidly, you will lose balance.

    I used a shopping cart, i held onto the shopping cart and it took me approximately ten hours to get the feel of balance. i also conducted all of the exercises you shared in your video as well. i combined every exercise i could find on learning to ride an euc. it was immensely worth the hard work. and like you said, most people learn very quickly.
    for me, i tend to learn everything very slowly. i kept telling myself, there is no hurry to learn this, take all of the time needed to feel comfortable.
    then i let go of the basket and kept going.
    now im practicing with the same basket, to learn to ride backwards. that is taking a little longer but again, no hurry to learn this. just enjoying the process =)

      Thanks and congrats on the Abrams! It's an amazing deal. It's big for a beginner, so hang in there. As for stopping, make sure to slow down to the slowest speed you can before you put down your foot. For turning, the simplest way is to point your 'zipper' where you want to turn. Practice figure 8s in a very large empty parking lot. At first, your figure 8s will be gigantic. Work them down to around the size of 2 parking spaces.

      Thanks! Actually almost everyone I know who has tried one did not give up. I’m curious to know the perspective of those who gave up. At which point did they decide to give up? Was it before they were able to ride for at least 10 secs? Or was it after they were riding for a couple of weeks?

    • @richardmhain
      @richardmhain Před rokem +1

      About giving up learning to ride, I could only guess it got something to do with the need for it. If they need the ride with EUC, they'll find ways to learn it; if they have more convenient alternatives, then they won't bother to learn. That's my thought having dealt with a quitter of an even easier-to-learn 2 wheels scooter; also my reason for not learning hoverboard. I find this EUC more convenient than regular scooter though, maybe we can have an online session for it 😂
      Although with your excellent tutorial here, I'll probably learn it by myself. Thanks!

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  Před rokem +2

      @@richardmhain Hi Richard that's a really good point. At the time I learned EUCs, I was a Onewheel rider, and I kept thinking of how Onewheel was easier and more fun than EUCs at that time. It was only with persistence that I kept practicing to the point where I began to prefer EUCs.
      I'm glad you'd like to learn EUCs. One thing that might help is to set your expectations for a challenge. I found that those who think it's easy find it much harder than they expected, while those who thought it would be very hard found it easier than they expected.
      As for online 1-on-1, we could try if you get stuck. But one of the reasons the 1-on-1 is effective is because I use a variety of accessories to make learning easier.

    Chooch had a great tip to use a belt and buckle it around the handle. Then you can hold onto the belt when first learning to mount the EUC. The belt helps you keep your body lined up directly in the center of the EUC, and has the added benefit of preventing too much damage to your EUC when you crash at the ultra low speeds you will be going as you learn.

      @@360vroomersIt turns out that my V11 has a cutoff switch right in the middle of the handle, which makes perfect sense, and is convenient. Unfortunately it means the belt trick won't work for me. It's all good though. I just spent a bit of time going in circles one footed and then rocking back and forth while holding a pole, then slowly following down a wall. I got to the point that I only had to touch the wall every 5 seconds or so, but then it started pouring rain, so I had to call it a night. Not bad for 30 min. I feel. I'm hoping that in another 30-45 min I'll be riding without a wall, and working on stopping / dismounting / remounting. Thanks for all the tips!

    I think it's not a good idea to teach newbies to start a movement with a support. Most important skill is the ability to get on the wheel and get off the wheel. I saw many times that people are ok when riding but it's very hard to start and stop also in case of emergency.

      Hi Doctorlove. I've seen some DIY gasoline unicycles, but they were very difficult and dangerous to ride. By contrast, an electric motor can be controlled very precisely by the EUC's computer, moving it forward or backward to keep the wheel stable. A gas or diesel motor cannot be controlled with the same level of precision. That's why all self-balancing unicycles are electric.

      I totally understand. It's hard to imagine trusting the equipment to work. I have a similar fear about scuba diving for example. If the gear malfunctions while you're deep underwater, you could die. Having said that, for EUC, there are ways to mitigate your risk: 1. i buy a more powerful wheel than i need, so it's very unlikely to be overpowered. 2. i always pay attention to the beep warnings. 3. i don't buy a wheel until i've seen how reliable it is in terms of cutouts. 4. i wear a helmet and gear so that if ever it cuts out, i'm going to reduce the chance of injury.
