Jet is pretty much the definition of "taken for granted"... dem feels.
Personally, I've always found myself drawn to Jet. He felt like the funky hard-boiled uncle I never had. ^w^
Jet and Ed were my favorites from the series. In the case of Jet, like you, in my youth, I didn't care for his boring, philosophical conversations with Spike. I simply desired to see Spike fight. The added drama was just frosting on the cake.
It wasn't until my late adolescence that I began to listen to Jet and appreciate his presence in the
Bebop, and the series didn't seem like a mere rollercoaster anymore. It became a full-bodied experience. I'd think to myself, "Nothing is permanent. What is one to do when that ship lands for the last time?" Jet encouraged me to think consciously rather than instinctively about choices in life.

I never really paid much attention to Jet either. But you're right. As I get older I can relate more and more to Jet Black.

Dam. he's one solid character, looking at him now reminds me of my oldest friend and makes me apriciate anyone like this.
These episodes...along with Digibro's video on Cowboy Bebop (You're gonna carry that weight), it's made me do something I was a bit afraid to do.
Reanalyze cowboy bebop, and I say that because ...well Digibro did say how if one pays too much attention to what actually happens to not just the cast, but the people they meet, would make one feel some extent of depression.
I'd feel depressed because it's not simply something I can relate to, assuming a case is such, but more because I can understand and even emphaize with some of the characters and what problems they may face.
It's something to step back and try and think in detail about some situations. Be it with Asamov and his wife/girlfriend in episode 1. The kid in 'Sympathy for the devil' and that Batshit insane assassin whom was a tribute to Batman's villians (Joker and Penguin in particular), and so on.
Then again, with almost all the things I've seen in earlier times, when I review them again years later, and realize and see things that I either had faintly been conscious of, or even missed for one reason another, I end up having a far different view of it compared to when I had seen it the first time.
I say all of this because it was, for me initially difficult for me to process the thoughts of Ein and Ed leaving the Bebop, because like Spike and Jet, I ended up getting attached to them.
I did have problems with Faye cause I did see her initially as a bitch, but when her past was revealed, I did begin to feel sorry. Although even before then, I could understand to a small extent why she wasn't so eager to trust overs. Only problem is what you've brought up.
Namely the kicker, and something I'm now looking at more;
The reality that Jet, has had to deal with people leaving him, being backstabed and so forth, and the one person left for the time being, is one to whom he has little reason to really trust.
Conversely, Faye came to a similar conclusion. She doesn't really have anywhere else to go, and one wonders how things would turn out with the two of them, and how life would carry on from the last time we saw them.
I had felt bad for Jet when viewing the series in the past but this video has made me feel even worse because, when again, thinking more into just how one has to carry the weight of things that they've done and/or what's happened to them...he's been torn up a lot to put it mildly.
I now view the show with what you've brought up, and what thoughts your video has provoked. I suppose I should say thanks, since, this video (among others) is quite worth a listen.
I am curious as to if/when you'll get to Spike, but I can afford to be patient. I'm sure it'll happen, when it happens.
So...my pointless, rambling aside, very awesome video.
I always liked Jet, and identified with him more than most of the crew (though I did like them all). Imagine my surprise at 13:30 when he's standing in the exact same pose that I was in at that moment.

Spike's story is extremely tragic yes, but Jet lost everything and has to continue on. He tried so hard to keep them together and it just couldn't be done. He went years thinking of the same woman who had obviously and rightfully moved on but he couldn't escape her in his head. He will continue to punish himself 'til the end of his days
Imagine every family member you care about or just have, every friend, the only person you'll ever truly love, coworkers you consider family, every person that has any semblance of your care and affection... Now imagine gaining and losing every single one slowly, one by one, and all you can do is watch as even fake relationships you treasure vanish from your finger tips. Can you even imagine how painful that is?
Of all the characters on the show, Jet really DOES seem like the one that average people can most relate to. Spike's whole character arch is mostly built up around his old love whome he never gets over no matter how hard he tries, and Faye is all about discovering her old identity while trying to deal with an overabundance of debts. They all have their own problems that we want to see them deal with in a postitive way, but Jet's problems of losing people he cares about seem like the problem most grounded in reality, and most likely happen to an average human being. He is, and always will be my favorite character in this anime.
Poor Jet, always being forgotten! Even though he's only my second favorite character in Bebop, he's still one of my all time favorite characters in general, and the Bebop character I would want to have the most as my friend in real life! He's smart, cool, reliable, and would be great to have conversations with! It would be awesome to talk and take care of bonsai trees with him!
I've definitely grown into the "Jet" role of my friend groups.

It never occurred to me how sad the ending of Cowboy Bebop _truly_ was. It's *even sadder.* I never realised that, much like Faye, he would have trust issues and losing _everyone,_ and his closest friend by the end of it is a bloody nightmare.
You managed to make the ending even more tragic for me ☹️ I'd never really thought about how it was Faye and Jet (The least close) left together. Great analysis, I really can't wait for Spike 🙂

Why did I think it was Spike. It was Jet all along with all the things he is experiencing.
Jet was always my favorite character growing up. I first saw this show late at night when I was 3 or 4 and at first I thought he was a bad guy because he looked all gruff and not so friendly and his physical image is like 40% metal (the arm, boots, and metallic piece under his right eye) I honestly thought he was a cyborg when I was little. I rediscovered the anime when I was about 13 or 14 (I just turned 24) and I really liked everyone else but Jet was easily my favorite. He reminds me of so many people I’ve known in my life.

I was hit hard by the feels and a need to re-watch Bebop. Great video as always.
Right, so that's three for three Bebop vids that have made me cry and you haven't even covered Spike yet. I'm going to be a mess when that one comes.
I really think you hit the nail on the head with your assessment of Jet at the end - it can be difficult to relate when his character has dealt with so much betrayal and heartache if you've not gone through it, but once you do his character really jumps out at you in ways it didn't before. I have a huge soft spot for Cowboy Bebop in general, and each character in it as well. Too many feels, you know?
Anyway, that was, of course, another great video. And congratulations on hitting 20k subs! That's both insane and fantastic, but mainly it is well deserved. I hope you really do get something decent coming your way from all of this. It's clear how much time and care you put into your videos and it would be great if you got more then just some people telling you they did or maybe didn't like it - though I'm sure praise is welcome, too. :)

Loved this episode DiGi. Part of what I love about this series is how it causes me to look more closely or give a look at all to characters who previously didn't grab me. When I was in my teens watching Bebop I was all about how cool Spike was and the other crew, but now I'm almost in my 30's now and Jet seems a lot more appealing to me. I have to go back and re-watch CB for sure.
+GamesBrained - Cheers, dude! Glad you enjoyed it :) Yeah, Jet's a slow burner for most people. Naturally, you're going to feel sorry for all the crew members one way or another ...but to me Jet really got a lot more of the short straws. They were not as grand or world shattering as Faye's revelations or Spike's situation but Jet's own problems seem to add up bit by bit until it's amounted to a long string of depressing events.
I never watched Cowboy Bebop all the way through but I always connected to Jet the most. Now I see why.

As much as I like Spike, Faye, Ed and Ein, I much prefer Jet out of all of them. Something about him really draws me to him. While everyone else kind of drifts in the ocean, he's actively trying to find a buoy to cling to. That buoy is a sense of honor, something you really can't find when you deal with less than honorable people on a daily basis.

DiGi, Greetings from Los Angeles, another stellar episode, way to look into the deeper meaning of the show and it's characters, I love this show, it's my all time favorite anime, maybe only Robotech comes close to it's depth. Jet is awesome, and will be more appreciated the older and more mature we become. In the preview for his episode they say it's going to be dark, depressing, and not for kids, but old dude will love it;) lol funny huh? So self aware. You know watching your last video I was thinking to myself if you were planning to review another anime character anytime soon, and then I look in my sub page and get smacked in the face with this, I'm starting to think I'm psychic.
Anyway you know thinking about Bebop I'd say Jet was probably the character I focused/understood the least, so I wondered if I'd gain some new insight into the character going into this video.Well thanks to you DiGi I can say not only did I gain some insight into Jet but also a brand new appreciation for him too.

Possibly repeating myself but I still say Bebop was ahead of it's time, to the point I've had people say it's too good to be tied down by the title of 'Anime' and I bet a lot of US made scifi is secretly influenced by it.
One of these days I might show it to fam, if I can stomach the eye rolling they will probably do because it's a 'cartoon' or thinking all of it is copying 'better shows'' when some of those ideas bebop did first.

After Ed, Jet was my favorite character of Bebop, I always like the old wise badass / father figures in these shows and Jet is probably my favorite of those kind of characters.

+The4thSnake - Cowboy Bebop in particular, i have to go with dub. Not that the sub isn't good also. I'm not one of those dub vs sub elitist types, lol. I'll check both styles out and settle with whichever one i'm gelling with more. For Bebop though, the dub was the one i found myself coming back to.
