@@silverbullet2008bb Feather blades are very sharp, Personna less so. Feather work well on mild razors such as the Muhle R89, Timor and Feather. Best to try both and work out which one suits you.

For those just starting out with DE shaving, these are indeed good, mild choices. I own them all, plus more. Note: the Merkur and Muhle heads are constructed of Zamak - basically just a zinc alloy coated in chrome. With proper care they can last decades. However, stainless steel is undoubtedly the better material. Also, the vintage Gillette Tech, Flair Tip Super Speed and all vintage Gillette adjustable offer a very good, mild shave and they are all constructed of brass - made to last several lifetimes. Now you know.
I conjecture the Henson 13+ is also perfect for sensitive skin

I have sensitive skin that's prone to ingrown hairs, and I've come to love my Merkur 38c. I make under 10 passes on each shave.
I took your advice and bought some Personna blades from Executive Shaving and wow - what a difference. I've not been shaving with a safety razor for long but the difference between these blades and Wilkinson Sword blades is incredible. I normally end up with about half a dozen cuts after a shave. Just now, after my first shave with the Personna blade, I had only one - and that was after I reopened one of yesterday's cuts. The shaving experience is far smoother than with Wilkinson Sword (or Astra blades - they left me looking like I'd lost a fight with Freddie Kruger) and my face is now smooth and irritation free. Thank you for the recommendation - I'll be sticking with these blades from now on.

i have incredibly sensitive skin and when i first got a double edge razor i literally just picked the first one i saw with the first pack of blades i saw. worst thing i ever did. i got the muhle r106 and personna platinum blades and that helped INCREDIBLY. so much better. thank you brian ❤️

I bought both the Muhle R89 and R106, but found that the R106 was much better for my very sensitive skin. Love Persona blades, and Executive Shaving's shaving cream too.
They share the same head, it's in your mind.

I have the normal Outlaw, which I got back in May, and it still impresses me. Phenomenal build and finish, and the Super Grip handle gives an insane amount of grip (there's no fear whatsoever that this will slip out of your hand) and the shaves it gives are outstanding. You can certainly tell that a lot of time, effort and sleepless nights were spent engineering this razor. Well done to all concerned 👍🏼
The development costs for The Outlaw were eye watering but the cost and effort was worth it.

You're as good a Salesman as you are a Fount of Knowledge of all things shaving and that makes you a Formidable Force. ;-) Parenthetically, I was very pleased to hear your commentary on the Mekur 34 C. In my opinion, there are a lot of wet shavers who are getting too big for their breeches where this razor is concerned. They are starting to find, completely false/erroneous and just plain ignorant, faults with the razor which it does not deserve. You have a considerable amount of Credibility backing your opinions and impressions which are much needed. Finally, I am not sure what I'll be purchasing but I will be treating myself to Christmas gifts from Executive Shaving this year-for certain. Aside from pampering myself; I want at least one thing to look forward to in this dreadful year!

I recently purchased the Outlaw razor, the beautiful blue shaving mug, and the Citrus Kiss soap …and can personally attest to each items superiority, but I was disappointed to see that the outlaw was not shipped with the bullet base nor any blades to use as is stated in the video. Be prepared to spend even more with ExecShaving if you wish to truly experience what’s on display.
I would like to add the razor that helped my sensitive skin turn around was a Yuma...cheap but surprisingly good...
Works for me too. Yuma is surprisingly good.
I've found my Slant Razor works really well for me. I have sensitive skin on my lower neck. The slant works perfectly for me.

This is exactly what I was hoping to hear! My lower neck-especially around the Adam's apple-gets completely shredded after three passes. I have very coarse facial hair, and I've read that slants are able to slice through coarse hair with much less friction and tug, which results in less irritation. I think I'm going to buy a _Fatip_ slant and see if a slant razor is the answer to my problems.
@@SpongeBath_ShitPants Since writing this I found my technique just sucked. It wasn't the razor it was me.
But I will say that if you haven't already I recommend trying an injector razor. They're more forgiving to shave with plus easier to learn. Also try a more mild razor like the Van Der Hagen TTO razor. I have that razor and it performs flawlessly every time.

I’m looking to get into shaving with a safety razor because it’s getting too darn expensive to buy cartridge razor refills. About US$30 for 12 Schick Hydro five shaving cartridges.
My father, his father and most of my uncles always used the Gillette Adjustable Butterfly opening Safety Razor. You razors here, and many others are not adjusting. These razors here are mild, or less aggressive. So am I right deducting that these razors are fixed at the old Gillette Adjustable Razors comfort setting of 1, 2 or 3?
Do these types of razors you’ve demonstrated here perform better than the adjustable razors?

Ive tried lots of DE:s. The Muhle is the best of all on my very sensitive skin. And supprisingly a shavette also works just as well for me. Still use the Muhle in The mornimg when i need to hurrry. Dont want to hurry with a shavette.

I have very sensitive skin , I always get rashes on my neck which is more sensitive then anything , I got the merkur 34c with some feather blades, I get some cuts here and there but my skin for me just isn’t so smooth when I shave , I don’t have such a clean shave , what blade do you recommend ?

Never seen any of your vids before, for some reason I liked this vid 10 secs into watching it, great vid and new sub, please make a dedicated vid on Safety razor clogging, I cut my head to the point more blood was dripping than foam, I put it down to clogging under the blade slightly raising it creating an uneven blade

Would you recommend an adjustable like the parker (or any other you recommend) in your store for a beginner over one of these? Does the adjustable have the qualities of a milder and more aggressive razor if needed or is there a drawback to that? Ideally would like to buy one and stick with it. The Parker Variant and Merkur Progress are both good options, most men find the setting that suits them and they stick with that number which kind of defeats the purpose. My advice, go for one of the razors we recommend and learn how to get the best from it.

Never overlook a quality soap to avoid skin irritation. Look, too at vintage Razors, notably Gillette Techs and Gillette Slim Adjustables. Bargains can be found on E-Bay, at lesser cost than the modern razors. The Tech shave is mild, but more aggressive shaves can be made using sharper brands of blades. The adjustables work great with virtually any blade.
Agreed that Personna blades are a fine choice, especially The Personna 'Comfort'
blades, AKA Lab Blues.

I've wath a lot of video from you , I've been using gilette cartridge rasor for about 20 years and now since 1 month I'm using DE safety razor to cut price of shaving my beard !!! I've bought as my first rasor Rockwell R1 because I didn't wont to pay much for my 1st razor in case I didn't like the wet shaving !!!

You are missing something. For many years i thought that mild razors are for me cause i have super sensitive skin. However i had my best shave the day i tried an R41 and i am still using it to this day almost exclusively. Mild razors require more effort and passes in order to remove stuble whereas aggressive razors need less. Hence there is no such rule: sensitive skin -> mild razor.

You make a good point. But honestly for guys that suffer from ingrown's on the neck, medium to mild razors are the way to go. An aggressive razor will cut the hair follicle down too short to the skin and it'll get sucked back in and cause irritation or an ingrown hair. Trust me. I have suffered from them for over 20 years. I know what works and what doesn't from personal experience.
The most important thing is for the razor to be effective.
Aggressive is not always effective, and vice versa.
The best example of a gentle and effective razor is King C Gillette or Merkur 39c sledgehammer.

I have sensitive skin and find the Merkur 42C, closed-comb (1904/1906 pattern) very smooth and trouble free, especially if I use the Aster (green box) blades.
If the 42c works for you with Astra blades, stick to that combination.

Thanks for the info! What exactly are the factors in the construction of the razor that affect how aggressive the blade is? I have managed to get a very clean shave out of a literal $1 safety razor with a decent set of blades and I can't determine a difference between It and other safety razors I have used.
Longevity is a major factor, a well made safety razor should last decades. Your $1 razor may last a few weeks - if you're lucky.

I have a 1966 Gilette Slim and have been having a problem getting all my dark whiskers on a 2nd or 3rd pass. The 3rd pass is almost impossible for me, it hurts my skin. I have been trying a variety of blades including the red Personna blades. I have some of the blues coming in soon. I also have a really good pre-shave and post-shave routine and use a high quality shave soap with high fat content and a badger hair brush. I also shave after showering and do a facial scrub. Do you think that these razors are significantly more mild than my razor?
I haven't used a Gillette Slim but it depends what setting you have the Slim on. On the higher settings then these razors would be milder but if you are using the Slim on it's lower settings then I don't think you'll see a big difference.
@@ExecutiveShaving I'm using it at the lowest setting. I've tried to go 2 or 3 but it just makes it worse on the neck and 2nd and 3rd pass all over.
These are all ok choices but the vintage Gillette Speed and Shick Krona are better yet.
That may be the case but they're not widely available and they're not brand new.

Hello. I am now using the muhle r89. Am satisfied with it. I am curious about the Merkur 34c. They say it's slightly more aggressive than the r89. Is that right? I myself have sensitive skin. Have been looking for a long time for a blade best for my skin and of course for those razors that I mention. So the r89 and the merkur 34c. They recommend the gillette platinum and astromax and voskhod blades for sensitivity. They are 4/5 with the sharpness. The personna blades are also comfortable? Because that's most important to me. But they also have to be sharp. I'm tired of searching. Want a knife that's good for me. So that I don't have to change anymore. And I can also buy a large series for a long time. The 34c is maybe very slightly closer shaving than the R89.
For me, over the years Personna and Gillette Silver Blue are my two top razor blades.
Buy the 34c and Personna and GSB blades - and stick with them, learn to use them and don't go chopping and changing.
They are top-class products that work well for almost all men no matter their beard and skin types.

Shaving your neck can be awkward as the hairs can grow in many directions. Stretch and hold the skin as tight as possible and use short strokes to make sure you are shaving with the grain.

Feather blades,widely acclaimed, made in Japan, 50 for $19 US Feb 2022 by Amazon 3 or 4 shaves a blade very sharp next, runner up . Astra blades ..and I have used the Merkur 34c for thirty years, the Same one, you can get it for about $35 dollars ..excellent quality best way to go...splurge on facial soap. Trufit and hill 1805..

i went with a futur as my first ever step in to safety razors recently which i think was a big mistake... lets just say sink water shouldnt be red and i had bad technique. i've got better with it but i still think its to aggressive for me so i'm now thinking of going with a Muhle R106 or a oneblade core. what would you suggest? sensitive skin and beginner
Both the Core and R106 are good buys, both are mild yet effective, the downside to the Core being the cost of the replacement blades and the fact they're only good for 2-3 shaves.
Go for the R106, take your time, use a light touch and shave on a rich lather and you'll be fine.

I suggest put zero absolutely zero pressure on your skin took me two years to figure this out , bought 5-6 different razors 🪒. It’s just the amount of pressure cause issue . No one tells you that on CZcams which I’m surprised. Zero pressure go with the grain first and side ways then against if you want a very close shave . Also do short strokes
Can someone answer a question for me? I'm new to shaving with a safety razor, when you say a certain blade is good for 7-8 shaves do you mean 7 sessions? That always confuses me because most people will do 3-4 passes in one shaving session. So you can only use the razor twice with 3-4 shaves in each shaving session. Any help would be much appreciated. Great video by the way.
How often you need to change the blade depends on many factors. We recommend changing the blade as soon as you feel any tugging or dragging. However, when talking about a number of shaves, we mean the number of complete shaves, not the number of passes in a shave - hope this helps. Thank for watching!

Unfotrunatley the Mercury head is asymetrical on all of their models exept the fusion. Really a shame because otherwise really god razors. You actually have to angle the razor differently depending on wich side you use if you want consistency with each stroke.
Is this intentional?
Carl - we have sold Merkur razors for many years with no symetry problems on any models.

@@brianm1967 just look at the head from both short sides. The difference in blade exposure is obvious. Might be intentional because it looks exatly the same on every model ive seen. I supose its not a problem if you want a non adjustable DE that still have two different settings.
If it had been made in china i would asume it was sloppy enginering för their exports but since its german i actually suspect it might be intentional design. Not totally without advantage but i prefer equal blade setting on both sides.
what is the difference between the muhle r106 and r89? is it just a different handle or is the head actually different?
Thanks for watching! The only difference is in the handle, it is the same head. The R89 has a knurled chrome finish whereas the R106 is a smooth black resin handle.

lately I am buying razors again, I had to give away a qshave parthenon adjustable TTO razor since it was too aggressive, even in position 1, now I have bought another razor parker 60 R , again a TTO but not adjustable and cannot use it since the aggression is very high, Is there a possibility to lower the aggressiveness of these razors or do I have them to give away again to people with lesser sensibility I don't have problems with edwin jagger DE89, with merkur 34C, and with other adjustable razors , normally I use rockwell 6, on base plate 2, regards from Mexico , robert
I don't know any way to reduce the assertiveness of an aggressive razor, sorry.
How does the Persona blades stack up against Feather blades?
Feathers for me are sharper out of the box and can feel rough depending how aggressive the razor is, personna I feel like are more well rounded in terms of being suitable to more razors. I've been through, I dunno, 50 each of the feathers and personna and after running out of the feathers and deciding to use the personna as they were in the cupboard, they're fine for me. I'll buy some more feathers anyway though. All the best!

Generally how long would a DE razor last? People say a week for daily shavers, but what about weekly shavers? Would one blade last me a month or would I still have to use a new one every week?
Depends on what blades you use. But if you only shave once a week your blades should last atleast a month, probably longer.
We recommend changing your blade every 4-6 shaves so if you are shaving weekly you would comfortably get a month from a blade. Thanks for watching.

please use some merkur futur copy razors such as qshave or ming shi 2000, these are just as the future adjustable and very cheap , with level 1 you should not have any problems , also rockwell 6 C is a nice razor with baseplate nr 1 ( it has 3 base plates in the box , from 1 till 6 aggressiveness , regards robert, for shaving blades I recommend astra or voskhod .
i got myself a muhle r96, would you consider it a good razor for sensitive skin or is it on the aggressive side?
This is a mid-aggressive razor. In terms of closeness it's somewhere between razors such as the Merkur 34c, Jagger 89 and Muhle R89 and the Muhle R41 and ATT Heavy Duty (H) razors. It should deliver a close, yet very comfortable shave.

I used to shave almost everyday and developed eczema recently, now it’s at the point where I put off shaving as much as I can due to the intense redness and irritation I get. Even after changing my shaving cream and after-shave lotion I still put off shaving as much as I can, but I’ve been considering going to a double edge blade now since I’m still using a 5-blade Gillette razor hoping that’s the missing link. All of these seem like great options, is there one or two you’d recommend among the pack here? Thank you!!

I must say they are extremely pricey. I bought a beautiful stainless steel double edged razor with a long handle which was at half price at the time for just AU$10 (usually $20 which is still extremely cheap). And I just picked it up at the local supermarket.
Ahh.... I totally understand where you are coming from.... I too am from Australia and have bought the Woolies, Coles even ALDI safety razors and they felt awesome. What you will find with the more expensive ones is the tolerance (which he was talking about). The cheaper ones have a smaller tolerance and are also design for the generic Wilkinson blades you also by from Woolies etc. These blades are actually a bit thicker and if you have a thick beard it will rip you to shreds. The more expensive razors have a much better and finer clearance and if you use a quality German blade ( again I'm from Australia so just go to your local Shaver Shop) you will notice that after 2 or 3 passes, you will have a face that is like a babies bum with baby powder on it..... No disrespect to the grocery story razors but you will find the price does definately show a different result.
@@thornstrikesback I had a closer look today at the Shaver Shop razors but thought the safety razors looked to be the same quality. The clearance looked to be the same and I didn't notice any advantage with them except that the handles have better gripping.
To be honest. I think shaving with my double bladed BIC does a better and much more safer job. The safety razor seems far less 'Safe' to use ironic given the name. And the BIC would only cost me around $20 a year to buy. Five packets totalling 50 shavers and I never use more than one a week as I get three shaves out of each.
I may try your advice on the blades themselves though. The Feather blades seem like the best option. Those Wilkinson Sword blades from Woolies are made in India so maybe not quite the same standard as European made ones?
Anyway, I find I have more control and precision with the BIC as it has a smaller head and is easier to judge the cutting point.
It seems strange to be trying new shaving stuff after over forty years of shaving. Old dogs I guess can learn new tricks!
You could now add also the new Muhle Companion?

Yes, they are the same head but the handle is different so gives the user a choice of handles - the razors give the same quality of shave!

All good options for sensitive skin but keep in mind that just because you get razor burn that does not mean you have sensitive skin. It is equally likely that you have strong and/or curly beard hair. In that case these mild razors will result in a lot of pulling and require multiple passes for a clean shave and the result will be the opposite of what you are looking for. Also the mildness of the shaver is balanced against the mildness of the blade. I for instance have quite strong hair, so even though I chose a Merkur 34C, which is among the more aggressive ones listed here, I only got a good shave if I use a very aggressive blade like feather. I recently upgraded to the much more aggressive Merkur 37C and I get better results and less razor burn with milder, cheaper blades. I also borrowed the Muhle R106 from my father and that one would not give me a decent shave even with a feather blade and was pulling and skipping hairs. Looked like a fucking 13 yo with dimples after that thing. I am sure it's great if you have nice blonde baby hair though.
What about the timor?
Timor - yes up there with the Muhle R89/R106, Merkur 34c and others, mild yet efficient.

The Merkur 34c is not a mild razor, its a medium razor and not suited for sensitive skin or beginners... IMO
