- I was riding across America and I figured I should see how quickly I could do it by riding through the night.

Those are insane distances man. Safe rides. There's that magical time after midnight, just before dawn, when the world looks and smells new again.
You know, I totally agree with you about that magical time. I love traveling through the desert at sunrise. I use to have a 3rd shift job when I lived in Tucson, and I would always get off work right before dawn. Best part of that job!
Dude that is insane! I don't know how your back can handle those distances without much of a fairing. Very impressive.
Using luggage as a back rest helps!
A little bit crazy from you to ride so many hours with no rest but ended up safe and sound!!
Keep bringing this kind of content mate, awesome stuff.
Ride safe!!
Regards from Portugal
Thanks man!
Looking forward to your trips! Loved the Alaskan trip
Thanks Mike! It's going to be great once the current travels start rolling out. Hoping mid November.
really enjoyed ur video greetings from austria
Thank you very much!
Beautiful. cheers
Being too tired in the beginning is always the mistake. And it just feels like a game of catch up from then on
Yup, and then add the cold and I just couldn't recover that time.
@@ScramblerStories yeah. A nice warm shower and bed really makes the difference. I am about to go on a trip from Colorado to Texas and then Cali. And plan to camp when it's time to stop. But if the going gets too tough. I'm booking a motel
Great stuff as always , thanks much mate! Be well!
You and your video are a walking Billboard for Bad Decisions.
Best Wishes! M.H
Now this I whole heartedly agree with!
You have a Great sense of humor!
Stay Safe and Best Wishes! M.H
Jeez Chris that was a long way to bang out like that, mad as a box of frogs bud! Awesome sunsets and sunrises tho!
Yeah definitely, that's one of the perks.
That was an Iron Butt two days in a row! Ride safe and keep 'em coming!
Thank you! We have a lot of videos in the pipeline, just trying to get them out.
Why do this? Unless you absolutely have to, DO NOT ride sleep deprived. Reaction time suffers as much as riding drunk. You are risking your life and the lives of others.
Glad you arrived to your destination…alive.
For sure. In this case scenario the hope was to leave early Saturday AM and get to Tucson by Sunday Evening so I didn't have to work from the road on Monday. Clearly it didn't work! Luckily with our current travels, we almost never even ride at night. A little more than 400 miles has been our biggest day so, but most riding days are 300 miles or less.
Sleep deprivation can actually tune you in to your surroundings and can be very exhilarating. Shadows turn into mythical beings, the mechanical noise of your bike keeps rhythm with your soul. It is something every rider should experience. Well done, enjoyed the ride😊
It's just dream to have this bike
Hope one day something works out for you to get this bike. It's definitely a blast to ride.
Bro hope you enjoyed your ride...but my dream is riding like u.....in our country here's very little opportunity for that...best of luck man...❤
Thank you. Hope you get to do the riding you want one day!
Makes me tired just watching. Glad you ended up stopping. 😊
It was tiring to edit! 🤣
Which time? He stopped and slept a few times. Just because you don't stay in a hotel, doesn't make it non-stop, lol.
not me ... I hit up every friend and relative from the Carolinas to Oregon and it took me a month .. ha! I know I had way more fun ... it was fun watching you suffer though 😁 You,ve got plenty more time to wise up. .. i bout got nothing left. Thanks for the show !!
Taking your time is the way to do it. We hit the road full-time 6 months ago, and we haven't done any stupid miles like this since. 500 miles in a day on the extreme side, but typically 200-300 on a travel day.
been on that I-40 many times. Buckee's is your friend.
I sure do love those chopped brisket sandwiches.
Enjoyed this video! Planning a Bun Burner 50CC next year. I live in East Tennessee so I'm going to do it from Charleston to San Diego so I'll be covering a lot of the same roads you did. I will not be doing it on my Scrambler. Taking my Indian Roadmaster instead. I did a Bun Burner Gold last year and many say that's tougher than the 50CC since you have time to get some shut eye along the way. I think I can do it in 40 hours. Going to do it in June to take advantage of the longer days (and warmer temps than you faced).
Smart move, and it will definitely more comfortable on the Indian!
Thanks a lot !!!
You bet!
Jeez thats brutal. I'm crying on the bike at like 350 miles lol I can't imagine 2000. Looks like an epic time tho, ride safe!
Some say it took me a few days to walk normal again...
Hello, greetings from Spain. I really like your white screen. What model is it?
Hola Jose, it's just the white fly screen for the Triumph Street Scrambler. One of the options for the Street Scrambler from Triumph. But the brackets are for the 1200. So you need both parts. You get from a Triumph dealer if you don't find them online.
-Triumph Scrambler 1200 fly screen brackets
-Triumph Street Scrambler fly screen in white.
Thank you very much for your answer, the combination looks very nice on your motorcycle. Is the screen compatible with the supports or did you have to make any modifications?
@@jrodalv no modifications needed. The brackets are specific to the bike, but all of their fly screens will work with all the different brackets. Yeah I do like the look a lot myself!
@@ScramblerStories Thank you very much again for your answer
Sorry to ask you about the same topic again. I have looked for the reference because I am going to install it and there are two different white colors, Fusion White (A9708381NF) and Crystal White (A9708381NW). What is your model, the first one? Thanks a lot
I have often planned buying a bike from the East Coast and riding it back to the Pacific NW where I live now. NOW I know what riding too far in a day would look like! LoL
Crazy, crazy man you. 🤣
Glad everything worked out well in the end and that you enjoyed the journey. Maybe next time get that hotel room though! 👍
Great video, I thoroughly enjoyed it. - Alan
Thanks Alan! Luckily with our current travels, I think a little over 400 miles has been are longest day. Trying to keep them shorter and more enjoyable. Not in the rush I was in on this trip.
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 legend
Naaahhhh. Just a fool who like's to be uncomfortable! 🤣
2k is a tall order bro. I've driven 1k straight many times. Focused, with minimal stopping or time loss I can do it in 15.5 hours. While going through Washington-Oregon-California. While Oregons top speed is 65. Doing 2k is 30 hours for sure, unless your in states with 75 to 80 top speeds, it might save an hour or two. Either way, that's 28 hours in the saddle. My brain melts at 15 lol.
Yeah for sure. Don't know if I would ever try it again unless I had too. Or on a some type of touring bike. While Caitlyn and I were traveling we didn't crazy long days. 500-600 miles max, and only a couple times. For the most part we were more around 300-400 on average.
You need a heated jacket liner…I enjoyed your video!
Funny enough, after I helped my friend moved to Pittsburg, he bought me a jacket liner for my 30 degree ride on Thanksgiving back to the south.
Vats is Nuts!!!! Crazy ride Chris!
You know it!
Safe travels
Thank you!
keep safe amazing
Thank you!
Love the film ive the same Triumph in 🇬🇧 uk could you tell me rhe name of the luggage you have fitted please and thanks again for the film and ride safe !!!
The luggage used is from Lone Rider. I actually use a lot of their stuff. Caitlyn and I both use the Overlander bag, these are the Motobags on my Scrambler, and plenty more. We went all in!

@@ScramblerStories I love their stuff! It looks awesome. Where did you get the two-sided rack for the Scrambler? I just bought a 2022 Scrambler XE and have been looking.
That’s one badass bike dude
Thanks man, I like it!!
I call this "going into deep water"... Pushing myself on how far I can go... Mind you, I've never done 2000miles in a day. I've done 800km on national roads and I was as good as dead.
I like that, "going into deep water." I think my days of going into deep water are a thing of the past... hopefully!
Amazing grit, bro. How is the win at freeway speeds? Trying to decide between the 1200x and the Tiger 900GT Pro.
Thank you! Certainly on the Tiger you're going to have more wind protection than the Scrambler. You can buy some windscreens for the Scrambler but in my opinion they ruin the look of the bike. It's much more fitting to have wind screens on true adventure bikes like the Tiger.
But I'm personally used to having a naked bike on the highway. It will tire you out more without large windscreen, but it's not that bad. I use that flyscreen which takes that wind blast off your chest and helps.
hello there, enjoyed the video and the bike... which motoracks are you using for your MotoBags?
Thank you! The racks are the Metal Mule racks. We have a video on the channel that goes over all the mods. czcams.com/video/4aUcbtHqZDY/video.html
How many Helmuts do you have on this trip? I notice a black Helmut and your white- two-tone helmut.
I just had one helmet. I think it's lighting making it look different. I have a few helmets, but I just travel with an Aria XD4, does it all for me.
unless youre doing a cannon ball run competition whats the point? exploring side roads etc
thats a road trip
I would definitely much prefer that versus bombing down the interstate. In this case, I was trying to get to my friends place as soon as possible, so I could work out of his house instead of trying to work from the road. I can't get very far on work days, so the idea was to get to AZ as quickly as possible. Also I do enjoy challenging myself. But it's not ideal, and I don't recommend it.
Since Caitlyn and I started traveling full-time, we travel too far in one day. We took two months to get from South Carolina to California. But we also stay in a place for a week or two, and don't travel Monday thru Thursday while I am working.
Great content.. i wish u had more subscribers..
Me too!! Appreciate you!
Next time don't use these energy drinks.
Just water or tea
It's a little problem on a bike, but constantly eating is helpful. Like baby carrots and stuff like this also some candy every once in a while or simple as that some nutrition bars
Thanks for the tips!
Never could do really long distances and now I don't ride at night. Can't see. Ah, to be young again
I certainly notice it's starting to get harder than it use to be. But we're trying not to ride at night much now, especially as we get into other countries.
Other countries aren't very safe at night. Bad roads, livestock in the road and vehicles without lights. My home is Argentina now. XR250 Tornado and NX4 Falcon 400 to ride. A 1987 Wing gets me around when in the US. Rode from NYC to Kalispell Montana this year. Going out took 4 days. A lot longer coming back. You are my hero though. Consistent long, beautiful rides all the time. You sure use that Triumph to the fullest.
Being sleepy is like being drunk. For pretty much same reasons.
For sure. Many states will issue you a ticket for driving without sleep in a specific time period.
I would say listen to Caitlyn 😂
So would she!
I can't imagine doing 80 on my XE with a visor on. My neck is trashed after an hour at 65
What helmet are you using? I don't have issues with the visor catching much wind with the Arai XD4.
@@ScramblerStories same helmet. XD4. It's not bad going straight but strong crosswinds can really grab it
Especially with a sun visor on the helmet.
My head the whole time: 😧🙄😖😣😦😧😦😧😶🙃🙁🙃🙁😵💫🫨😵💫🫨
Bon reportage.
Can you tell me where the side bag rack is made from? I also want to equip the Lone Riderbag
In case you don't see my other comment: The racks are from Metal Mule, but their website appears to be down, as I couldn't get you a link. There's also racks from Unit Garage that'll work with the Lone Rider bags.
Are you sure heard mixed reviews the should work but not straight forward plug and play ?? Anybody has done the fitting of lone rider or Mosko Moto soft luggage bags to unit garage rack?
And has some photos to share?
@@Plaubel17 Keep in mind I don't own the Unit Garage racks to test this, but there's a least one person using the Lone Rider bags with the Unit Garage rack on the Scrambler 1200 facebook group. I originally went with Metal Mule because I had already seen someone use the LR bags with that rack.
Very nice riding after midnight. I can’t understand the knobby tires on pavement? Dangerous and not meant for asphalt and will wear very fast , plus bumpy. You are tuff or crazy ?
Well the knobby tires were already on, and also used once I got to Arizona. No issues on the highway, but they do wear fast. But it's not realistic for me to change tires to street oriented just to get to my destination and then change them for something more aggressive.
At this time I had TKC80s on. Rear lasts me between 5-6,000 miles even with highway fully loaded. Front lasts well over 10,000 miles. I think I had this front tire over 15k miles with life still on it. Only changed it because I wanted a fresh front tire for Mexico incase I couldn't find something I wanted there.
@@ScramblerStories those are some great tires, I hardly ever get more tha 4-5 thousand o my back knead 15 on front . Good deal, just be very careful on wet roads .
1991 rode from Daytona Beach to Amarillo Texas 1711 miles stopping only for fuel. Sold the HD a few days a later ! Now looking into to buying another bike
BUCCEEEEESSSSS!!!
Brisket sandwiches and spice saltines!
Mmmmm… Brisket samichs are the best!
Incredible, did you do any physical preparation for that long of a ride.
For sure, I had some beers the night before! Haha, no but I probably should do things like stretching at least. I need to work on that. My strategy for long rides like this have always been the "Embrace the Suck" ethos. Worked so far!
Impressive but extremely dangerous. I hope you won't do that again. ❤
I think I'm getting too old to ride through the night now!
Great Video !
Just a question... how tall are you ?
I am seriously considering getting the Triumph XE 1200 Scrambler but at 5’10”, wondering if it will be too tall for me. I will have a test ride before I buy but just out of curiosity. Cheers !
What's your inseam? I'm 5'11" but my inseam is like 33", maybe slightly more. So it's ok for me. One thing to remember is if the suspension is set right, there will be 3"ish of sag. But throw a leg over one, and then the XC and see which one feels right for you.
So, I'm not the brightest knife of the tree, but why do you need an extra tire just to ride 2000 miles? Or, are you starting out with one that is on its end of life?
I didn't know how much life I'd get out of the TKC80 on the rear. It was towards the end of it's life, but actually it was fine by the time I got to Tucson. I had figured I'd need to change it by the time I got to Tucson if not sooner, but actually it still had 500 to 1,000 miles on it. Some people say they get 1,500 to 2,000 miles out of a rear, but I get around 5-6,000.
@@ScramblerStories - Thanks!
I don't get it, why would you go on a long journey if your rear tire won't make it? Was it bad before? If so why not change it out before the long distance trip?
It was more about having a fresh tire for when I made it to Arizona, for riding off in the desert. The tire wasn't shot, but it was my first time using on the 1200 and I wasn't sure how long it was going to last with all that highway. Turned out to be just fine, and I didn't even change it before riding in the desert.
Didn't need it at all. Was just worried about getting a tire I wanted because it was a time when certain tires were hard to find in stock.
@@ScramblerStories ok, gotcha.
How do you record your voice while riding. Your audio is excellent.
I plan to buy a used Triumph scrambler 900 and do a very relaxed tour
A, under 48 hours. I've done this before. 18 hours. with stopping for refuel and pissing only
I had hoped to do it under 36 hours but I botched it.
@@ScramblerStories i was speeding on interstate quite a lot. Got lucky. No cops
How did u keep your throttle hand from cramping? Do u have a cruise control?
When I used a bike without cruise control, I eventually got use to it. However, this bike has cruise control and I also have an Atlas Throttle lock (which I would highly recommend if you're motorcycle doesn't have cruise control). amzn.to/3MibASU
Scrambler 1200 has cruise control
i need pannier rack and bags ,Where can an i buy it?
The rack is from Metal Mule. metalmule.com/product/triumph-scrambler-1200-pannier-frames/
The bags are from Lone Rider. bit.ly/3UVWlCY
Good to push your limit but on two wheels it’s too dangerous
This is definitely true. I don't advise anyone riding through the night. I have a few times, but the older I get the harder it is. I probably won't do it ever again unless I have to for some reason.
It's pronounced "Buss-ey's"
Can't afford this bike
Killing you liver with that amount of “ energy “ drinks buddy!!!!….
Very true!
2000 miles of expressway??????😮😮😮😮😮 no thanks I have done heeps of long rides but riding slab not for me anymore 😊😊
Yeah I totally feel that. If time had been something I had, I would not do so many miles and I would definitely stay off the expressway. Luckily when Caitlyn started traveling we went slower, and avoided the highway as much as possible.
@@ScramblerStories thanks for the reply!!!! I have ridden my whole life and after my 4 corner tour on my Suzuki 750 in 87 , Pennsylvania to the top of Maine west to Blaine Washington, South to San Ysidro California, east to Key west Florida then back to Pennsylvania 😀😀🏍🏍🏍👍👍 10,200 miles ,3 days off , I am pretty much burned out by interstates 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 are you 2 up now???
@@artmchugh5644 No, we were both on our own motorcycles. Caitlyn on a Honda Rebel 500, me on this Scrambler. But I always had to be somewhere with wifi for work Monday thru Thursday, so we had plenty of rest days. Did over 30,000+ miles around North America for the last 14+ months. Now trying to edit the video!
@@ScramblerStories thanks for the reply!!!! We hope to be traveling more this summer but it is pretty expensive!!!! Homie doesn't camp !!!!11😆😆😆😆😆🏍🏍🏍🏍🍺
this takes all the fun out of riding. I see no sense in pushing for the sake of....what?
Well two reasons.
1.) I enjoy a good challenge.
2.) Was trying to be in Arizona to start work Monday morning. No fun working from the road on days I need to get miles done.
But that being said, I normally try not to do this. Since Caitlyn and I started traveling full-time a month and a half ago, our longest day was just over 400 miles, and we've only had one day like that. Travel days are typically 200-300 miles.
Sounds like a miserable trip.
Nah it was awesome. Type 2 fun, but then I spent awhile in AZ.

I see what you did wrong. You need to make sure you use meth next time. Copious amounts of meth.
Haha, yeah that would help.
