  • In September 2019, I left Brooklyn to travel the country alone on my 2008 Triumph Bonneville. Upon leaving, I could never have anticipated everything that I’d encounter over the next month. These videos do little justice to the feeling of driving alone into an endless horizon, the relief of a stranger helping you out of an impossible situation, the suppressing heat of a desert sun on a leather jacket, the desperation of hoping for a gas station around the next corner, the warmth of a motel room after a 7 hour drive through the rain, the conversations had, the loneliness felt, and the joy of completing the last of 9,275 miles. Even so, I hope these glimpses will serve as inspiration for someone to dive headfirst into the unknown and unfamiliar, and for myself to look back and be reminded of the adventure of a lifetime.

Dear Jake, It's been eight years ago that I strapped the last of the camping gear onto the racks of my Surly 27-speed touring bicycle, and headed back east from Seaside, Oregon. I traveled some of the same highway that I saw in this episode. I gather, from my second watching, that you found much of the same thing I did, being on the road in the open, vulnerable to the elements and traffic: kindness of strangers, wonder at being in the landscape in such an intimate way, renewal, and a sense of serenity that, frankly, is still woven into me in a way that my "busy productive grownup consumer life" had stripped out of me over the prior 62 years. Your film editing, the soundtrack, and carefully chosen dialogue all took me right back to that sense of peace discovered. Thanks very much for sharing. Tim L. Just up the Hill from Lock & Dam 15

Roo, short story...my Dad had a 65 Royal Star that I grew up on riding behind him. It sat for years. He died in 2000 so I hauled it from place to place. A few years ago I finally faced the fact that I wasn't ever going to get it running so I hauled it out of the garage to clean it up. While I was sitting on it my daughter who was probably about 7 at the time hopped on behind my, put her arms around my waist and asked if that's how I used to ride behind my Dad. I'm tearing up right now just typing this. Anyway the guy I sold it to did a beautiful restoration job.

I should have bought that instead--it would have run circles around the Royal Star but, ya'know, in those days, it just didn't have the pizzazz of a British bike. ...and from Brooklyn! Originally settled by the Dutch. See the "Battle of Brooklyn" in Wikipedia (George slept there too). "Canarsie" is named after the Indians. "Nathans Famous" hot dogs originated there, etc., etc.

Sitting here in Germany. Its a cold rainy autumn evening. My dog is sleeping beneath my feet under the table. Whatching this video and my thoughts are: "That could be something for me and my 2016 Triumph Street Twin waiting out there in the garage." It's the first time in my life I really wish to visit the USA one day ... a German on his British motrocycle across the USA. ^^
      A very nice video indeed.
And this man (Turd Ferguson) brings it to the point:
"That´s the way to do it, no fancy 20.000 dollar BMW adventurebike, no expensive luggage.... just a simple streetbike and no nonsense. I´m in."

Dude, I love this. It's been 10 years since I took my last big ride on my Triumph Speed Triple - about 8000 miles in 30 days. We touched every state in the American West. I took lots of photos and videos, and edited some great videos to look back on. This is exactly how I would do it now. Great stuff, man - ride on!

Amen brother….just stumbled upon your videos and so glad I did. What an epic trip. For me, my travel into the unknown took place back in 1974 when I was twenty years old. A couple of friends and I hitchhiked across the country for three months and the memories are still vivid to this day. I’m sure your memories will live on also.
