In 95 I was sick of everything, and jumped on my crappy junk pile chopper. I left Charlotte, N.C with a full tank, a sadle bag full of cloths, a couple hundred bucks, and camp gear. I rode to the Santa Monica Pier, and back. Took me about a year because I kept finding really cool people to hang out with, and odd jobs to do along the way. I really enjoyed that trip, and now I am nearing 50, and living in Norway now I keep thinking about doing it again over here one day. I don't have a bike right now, but after watching this channel I keep asking myself what the hell am I waiting for.

Have a buddy I hadn't seen in a minute that lives right around 750 miles away...
Spring of 2019 I had just buried my father and brother and needed to get away..
My planning was non-existant ... i really wasn't thinking straight at the time... but I grabbed some clothes in a backpack, strapped them to the tail of my 2002 SV650S and left...
12 hours later I pulled into my buddy's after about 500 miles in the rain... but it felt awesome...
We rode around up there over 1000 miles a couple days touring the areas... then n the 10 day I decided, with the same amount of planning, woke up and decided it was time to go back home...
Made it almost all the way home, 100 miles left... and a deer jumped out over a guardrail taking me out...
I wasn't hurt badly, my gear saved the day...the bike survived with fairings messed up, but not even a dent in the tank..
I picked it up and rode it home, and was sore for about a week , ankle and knee on the right was smashed up pretty good, that was what saved my tank from hitting the road...
After all that... I would do it again tomorrow... Aside from the end, it was exactly what I needed... The bike is like new again, and my gear I was wearing was replaced...
Still the best trip ever.... One I will NEVER forget

Josh, Josh, Josh, your a man after my own heart. Back in the 70’s my mates and I would go on long unprepared trips. Like riding from Melbourne to Adelaide ( approx 500 miles ) to buy a pizza or go from Melbourne to Muswellbrook ( approx 1,100 miles ) to visit a friend. Be basically had our riding clothes and a change of clothes and off we would go. We were Supermen right, nothing is going to happen to us ( it was usually me that would have trouble, but that’s a whole another story ). The adventures you have along the way stay with you forever and you can say to yourself “ I fucking did that”. Well done old son from Down Under.

Ha, I have done the same leg but for a Parma... a number of times. Leave friday night and get there spend some time in the park and get the parma Sat night and then head back home and start work in the morning.

Pfft you think the brakes are bad normally, I had a gl1200 with a rotor damaged so badly that the pad hitting the messed up part spiked the pressure in the line enough to hammer the master cylinder apart from the inside. it was the front rotor on the side that was linked to the rear brake pedal, so that left me one out of 3 usable brakes. I rode it like that for a year before I finally fixed it. Good times.

My pops and I did a 4700 mile trip on his 1986 heritage classic and my 2016 650 twin ninja completely unprepared for "touring" as we rocked backpacks for luggage and every time we get together we reminisce about how it was the most amazing trip ever

Hell yea man! My biggest adventure was 2562 miles in 62 hours, minutes after a 3 hole fluid change in my last bike and (hindsight being 20/20) I didn't even check tire preasure before leaving! Gotta keep it sketchy to keep it fun! Congrats on the "SUCCESS" !

I believe this was one of the first motorcycle videos I watched during Covid. I had never owned a motorcycle, but I was inspired. I have a kidney transplant and congestive heart failure, so I was pretty much locked down for that year. This motorcycle thing seemed like just what I needed. The vaccine became available in February of 2021. I fully retired, and purchased a Yamaha V Star 250 for $2200.00 that same month. I rode that little motorcycle across the country twice. After that first year, and almost 20,000 miles, I sold the 250 and bought a Honda Shadow 600 for $2500.00. I’ve now been to Mexico and Alaska on the Shadow. I’m now somewhere north of 40,000 miles in less than 3 years. All of my trips have been under planned, with bags just strapped on the bike with bungee cords. This 67 year old is hooked… curse you Josh ❤ :)

Digging the generic 80's music to go with the 80's Honda. Now I wanna do a trip. I don't think I'd go straight through like you did, but my 46 year old Honda CB750 is itching for a road trip. Hopefully it holds up as well as your Goldwing did.

A motorcycle, minimal gear and the urge to move.
There is no better way to travel.
Me and a friend met up one day and just decided to go camping for a week on the bikes and we left the next day. 20 miles in we crashed, lost my a few numbers on my license plate and wrote them back on with a marker pen and my friend broke down. Got his bike running the next morning and it was great the rest of the week.

Thank you !! i made a trip like that when i was a kid, my parents got me a ford fairmont for a graduation gift and i traded it for a 77 shovelhead and rode it from South Dakota to New England, then from there to California where i reported to Boot Camp in the Navy.

I wish I could explain to you how much your video means to me as I watch on a Tuesday morning as I get ready for work. Your adventurous spirit and joy are contagious. I’m reminded that I can observe others or I can be the one being observed. Thank you. I needed a wake up call.

It was one of the best motorcycle trips of my life.
Love the tunnel at 10:00. In 2004 or 5, I road through into that very tunnel on my 1999 Honda Magna but didn't come out on it! A bad stator the culprit, I ran out of power halfway through. It was dark, my bike and I were coloured in black, and I had no lights, and I had to squeeze to the side when a flatbed carrying a gouse came through! I had to push the Magna out with my friend, who came back for me when I didn't emerge. The rest of my crew was waiting on the other side and they called to the town ahead for a new battery, fetched it, and brought it back to me. I made it safely home to Toronto and promptly bought a new R/R, and the problem never arose again. Remember, adventure is rarely fun while it's happening, but it sure makes for a good tale to tell! Surgeon, I love your videos! This one reminds me of when I was 20. I had a little Kawasaki LTD 440 twin with a belt drive. I tied a duffle bag to my passengers back rest one day and took off from Pittsburgh and didn't stop until I reached the southern most point in the Florida keys. An adventure I'll never forget!
Craziest ride I’ve ever took was about 20 years ago when I found out my ex- girfriend didn’t go to a wedding in Fayetteville , NC , (I was in NJ then) but instead went to see an old boyfriend I couldn’t stand the sight of. Long story short.....jumped on my only ride, a 1980 Suzuki GS550 and rode the 800 miles at night to kick his ass and dump her! I also stayed there for lunch afterwards and then drove the 800 miles back. No sleep the whole trip! That was as un-planned as it gets! But what a ride! Oh yeah, I forgot to bring a face shield, glasses and gloves! What an idiot I was! Lots of bugs in the helmet that night! Those things you never forget
Never whooped a girlfriends ex or run 100's of miles to break up, but I have done the 'hornet in my helmet - don't step off this bike at 50 mph' fight for my life a time or 4...

Love this. So! Recently flew out from Michigan with some camping gear to South Dakota where I bought a Victory Vegas. I went west and freestyled. I met so many cool people at local bars, I met Buffalo! I saw Mt Rushmore, I made it to Wyoming, Montana, Both Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin etc. I made many friends around Sturgis, I have a group to hangout with now!!! It was epic. Did 3,000 miles in 7 days. I never paid to stay over night, I setup my hammock in rest stops, people’s backyards, abandoned buildings, national forest, or! I slept on a few couches of strangers I met. You are absolutely right. I didn’t have any plan, and it worked out better than I could imagine!!! Plus! With free camping, my biggest expense was just beer and gas!!!!

I’ve wanted to ride a motorcycle all my life, I’ve even bought a brand new Ducati Monster 900s electronic injection, red, and sold it just a few weeks ago without ever having rode it, what a shame. Now I’ve discovered your channel and the bug has bitten me again. I think I’d go for a Gold Wing as well this time around, but now I have health problems : vein failure in my lower legs and feet, which means I have to wear compression socks or else they’ll get swollen and hurt. I know I'm late to the party BUT I love long motorcycle trips and have to comment on this. I taught my son to ride a year ago. He got his license just last fall. This May I said "let's go away over Memorial Day weekend." Other than packing warm clothes and A bit of rain gear because we were expecting torrential rain on the way home. It ended up 40's and 50's all weekend. We rode through 30 minutes of downpour and 40 degrees. Over 500 miles over 3 days. And my sons first trip. I feel honored to have share if with him. It was awesome. I look forward to many, many more.
The best trips are the ones you just pack and go. I did Sturgis this on 3 days notice. Spent 14 days on the road, rode 4200 miles, and have epic memories. Good for you man. You'll look back on this all your life.
I can see why huge tourers like Wings and HD are so popular in the States for long distance work. Permanent 2 - 3 lane tarmac for mile munching.
Regardless of how wonderful the scenery is, it would drive me insane.

Rain on my road trips is a way of life for me. In fact, that's how I plan my trips: I pick a destination that's going through a drought, and head that way, dragging torrential rain storms with me the whole way.

Hi when I was19 I has a honda 550 four and rode to phoenix, az passing thru Colorado, and seeing the Rockies on the horizon was something I had to stop and just take in the awesome view!!!
Doing a solo motorcycle tour like this is on my bucket list and has been for years. It will happen one day. But I really want to be on the right bike for me, even if it’s a 30 year old Gold Wing, more likely a BMW R1200RT, but who knows? Got to make it happen before I turn 40.
I inherited my dads bike last year after he passed from cancer. Never rode motorcycles before. Just quads and dirt bikes. I got my endorsement and asked a buddy of mine if he wanted to go to Wisconsin to the harley davidson museum. So we did the trip. Awesome! Just used the map on my phone and took off. What a blast.
The great Neil Peart used to refer to the highway as the MDU "Mileage Disposal Unit"... Inspiring vid man. Keep up the great work!
Check out the books he's written on his motorcycle adventures. 'Ghost Rider' is outstanding in how he decided one day to take off riding with no particular destination to keep his sanity after his daughter and wife died. The adventure helped him heal and put the broken pieces back together in his life. He wasn't just a great drummer, he was definitely a motorcyclist in the truest sense of the word.
3 years ago I bought an '84 Yamaha venture royale for $500....because it was $500. I spruced it up over the winter and rode it from PA to Bar Harbor with the wife. We did 2,214 miles in six days on a sub $1000 motorcycle. We had a blast and everyone thought we were crazy. The wife trusted me and I trusted my work. Had no issues until 100 miles from home, I hit a crater of a pothole at 80mph on I-86 in NY and blew the rear shock. Made it home safe and we plan on another trip going west.

I rode a friend's 57 HD from Ft. Lewis WA to.Sàn Diego CA in 72. He had a leg wound and couldn't ride so I decided to ride it to his mom's house for him while he was on convalescence leave. It was fun for a few hundred miles then it rained the rest of the way. I got there dropped off the bike took a bus to Ft. Polk LA reported in and ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. I would do it again it was worth the experience. This was a great riding video thanks I am with you I am a the guy who does things out of the blue with not much thought.

First cross country trip was from Ohio to New Mexico. Was supposed to be to the West coast but didn’t make it. Second day I made it to Maggie’s dinner from the movie wild hogs around 11 pm. Thought it would have a hotel being a tourist trap but it didn’t lol. I was exhausted so I slept on the side of the road by my bike. I had a tent but never put it up before so I ended up sleeping on top of it cuz I couldn’t figure out how to put it up lol. I got me a goldwing now. First 2 attempts were on sport bikes lol. Second attempt I made it to monument valley.

This video really touched home for me, being from the uk, from a working class family, last year me and my better half decided to bite the bullet of our life long dream and travel across the world to see Niagra falls, so you combining two of the things I love most in the world, whilst being a rad dude, this video got me feeling things a CZcams video never has.

One day I went in a +5 hour drive on my car and felt great haha, I live in the desert and went to the beach, man those days where awesome, atm Im struggling with a back injury which makes me avoid my motorcycles, but I think next week Ill be back on the saddle and who knows, maybe Ill go to the beach again now riding my motorcycle.

I was really glad to see this video, Brother, as Jen and I just got home from a nearly 1000 mile trip down to Key West. I came away with very similar thoughts to what you've posted here. If you love two wheels and the wind, get your ass in that saddle and RIDE! No matter where you're from, get out and see that great land of yours! It will enrichen you, it will recharge you, and it will give you memories that you will reflect on and cherish for the rest of your life! All of the problems and the day to day grind had worn me down, and I came back feeling like a new man, because I spent a few DAYS and hundreds and hundreds of miles doing what I loved most, and that's riding that motorcycle and sharing that experience with other bikers! Trust me, folks, your Uncle Shadetree is preaching the bonafide gospel on this one!

I've always kinda looked at it this way: Never seen a motorcycle broke down on the side of the road with a human skeleton laying next to it. If you like mountains do the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline drive it's awesome. I am old now so I like to keep it at about 400 miles a day now and avoid the interstate. But if you gotta do miles asap interstate is a necessary evil. I've done a few 1000 mile days including Philly to Daytona bike week in March. It's all good.

Just did a 6,000 mile trip on my 99 sportster. Just up and left with no plans. There's nothing like just taking off and seeing where the wind takes you. No plans other than seeing the grand canyon and Montana. We left on a Saturday morning from north carolina and was in New mexico in three days. Best time of my life.

I woke up one day , called my best friend we both drove around 600 kms just to have lunch at a palace in rajasthan and then drove back without stopping anywhere and came home just in time for gym 😂

This year, I rode about 1,500 miles in 4 days for Sturgis. The initial plan was for me and my dad to trailer out, but then I decided I wasn't waiting until 3pm for him to get off work, so I just went for it. 300 some miles, and half an hour of waiting for him to show up, we had our tents up as it was starting to get actually dark out. We took the hardtail chopper downtown, moved a barrier for a picture that we probably shouldn't have moved, went out to Devil's Tower and back, went almost all the way down to Custer and back, drove through Needle's Highway, stopped to look at Crazy Horse, and just did dumb tourist stuff on motorcycles the entire time. It was a blast. Grilled out for basically all of our meals, got a decent tan that actually stayed a tan for the most part, saw a bunch of cool stuff, and was way too damn tired to ride back home. It was fantastic.

Road to Reno from a Illinois. No plan, just a road king and a prayer. Many hardships on the trip. I actually slept in the bushes waiting for a gas station to open. I’ll never forget it. It was magical. Great job Shade tree, you’re a cowboy....🇺🇸

I've been going through alot, and will most likely have to my some changes for my own happiness. Been getting the urge to ride alot more. But being that my bike is a dual sport, I'm not doing any traveling on it. But you have inspired me to really work towards getting that Street Triple I've been wanting for 2 years and be able to make small trips. Be able to ride from my house to my parents house in the next state over. Really be able to get out and just enjoy the freedom of being on 2 wheels. It might not mean much, but thank you!

I've watched a good deal of your videos, and the MOST interesting and exciting part about your trip videos is most DEFINETLY the fact that you just decide fuck it let's go on an adventure. Minimal to no prep before you leave for a trip just SUCKS me into the video. It's inspiring and honestly it's just raw adventuring and It's some of the best content on this platform hands down.
Every singe time I watch one of these I want to get right on my bike and just GO. I don't give a fuck when and where. Cheers man.

I got to ride a 1978 GL1000 on a 30 day trip around the country back in the summer of 1991 with my buddy and his girlfriend on their 1978 XS1100. I had traded my toyota for the GL and after a test ride to Panama City, we were ready to go. Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Colorado, Montana, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida was the route. My friend was a frat boy so we stayed at the SAE house of the local university when we could and camped out when we couldn't get to one. Blew my life savings on that trip, but we had a great time and made some awesome memories.

Back in 1994, my wife and I decided to take a trip to the US. We live in Canada and thought that it would be a nice ride through the Adirondack. It was July 1, our Canada Day. We took off and noticed that the speedometer cable wasn't working. Turned around and fixed it at home. Luckily we noticed it right away. Took off again and when I hit the front brake, it went to the bar. Turned around and went home to bleed the front brakes. Fixed that ok. At this time, we should have taken the hint to stay home, but we didn't. Friday was a great ride through the western counties of Quebec and we made it to Burlington Vermont. The next day we headed out early and road for 12 hours through the back roads and ended up in Lake George NY. Along the way, just before we got to Lake George, we noticed that all the hotels said no vacancy. It was only when we stopped at a hotel in Lake George to ask about a room did we realize that it was the US long weekend as well and that every place was booked solid. We ate at KFC and decided to head home which was a 5 hour ride and it was 8pm. At around 10pm it started to rain in the mountains and we were pretty beat. We finally came across a motel that had a room, but it smelled of smoke because the guys attached restaurant had burned down the week before. We didn't care and soon fell asleep. We woke up the next day and headed out looking for a place to have breakfast. Nothing around until we got to Tupper lake. We stopped at this diner with a bunch of bikes parked outside and we went in to get a table to find it filled with Hells Angels. The waitress said that they only take cash and we only had credit cards on us, so we left. We found another place to eat, but the food was horrible. We got back into Canada and when we were on Hwy 401(equivalent to an Interstate), I noticed that there was a vibration in the handlebars. It got worst as we got closer to home. When I got home, I decided to check the wheels and found that one of the front wheel bearings was broken and there was only about 5 ball bearings left where there should have been about 15 of them. It was a spur of the moment decision that we never regretted even with all the problems.
I did that once with my wife on my 84 wing. We rode to Spa Francorchamps, the famous F1 circuit, where they also have www.spa-francorchamps.be/nl/agenda/2019-07-05/bikers-classics.
It rained so hard down hill on a one way two lane, a semi truck got behind us and put all his warning lights on so everyone would go past us safely. This was four years ago or something.

Edit3: Did you set the suspension to correct pressures according to manual? If it feels weird take another look at the pressure and adjust. They are also very sensitive to tyre wobble at lower speeds.
Spring 1970. The bike: a janky Honda 305 hybrid -- a 305 "Dream" engine in a heavily-modified 305 "Superhawk" frame, eight-over forks, Wassel peanut gas tank, window bars, cobra seat, et al. The journey -- Youngstown, Ohio to upper Michigan. It rained almost all the way up. Forty miles out -- rain water got to the bike's points. Detroit was no treat (insane cagers). Heavy fog drifted in during the last one-hundred miles to my final destination (Alpena, MI). It was a gas!
