This is a Motromouth couple car review of the 2023 Audi S4 performance luxury sedan. With quattro AWD and a turbocharged V6, the Audi S4 is a fun ride but also a great daily driver. What’s under the hood of the S4? A 3L turbocharged V6 with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. For 2023, there is only one trim in Canada, the Technik and three in the US. The Technik comes loaded for $64,950 CAD including a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, MMI Navigation Plus, a 12.3” digital driver display, heated steering wheel, heated front sports seats, driver seat memory, Nappa Leather seating surfaces with diamond stitching, Bang and Olufsen 3D sound system and a sunroof. Features like heated rear seats and a head-up display will cost you more.Audi S specific details of the S4 include, a lowered suspension, S bumpers, a rear trunk spoiler and quad tailpipes. You can customize your S4 the way you like by adding different packages/features like our test model which has red brake calipers, 19” 5-arm flag design wheels, performance tires, a matte black grille, black accents, black rings, black side mirrors, tailpipes and spoiler plus sound enhancing exhaust. You will pay extra for sport rear differential, sport adaptive damping suspension and dynamic steering which responds instantly increasing steering precision and speeds up the steering response. In the US, the Audi S4 starts at $52,400 USD, Premium Plus $56,400 USD and Prestige $60,700 USD. The middle trim is the sweet spot, it includes features like the Bang & Olufsen sound system, the 12.3” digital driver display, adaptive cruise control, sunroof and the top view camera. Plus, this trim unlocks packages like black optic plus, S Sport and the warm weather package for ventilated front seats. Unfortunately, in Canada ventilated front seats are not available on the S4.Fuel economy is rated at 11.1L/100 km, 21 MPG city and 8L/100 km, 30 MPG

S4 remains my favourite sports sedan. Audi's simplistic design language and interior quality are simply amazing. If only we got an Avant like B5 (in the States), B6 and B7 did, instead of a more profitable SQ5.
I really appreciate Audis simplistic design language looks really clean 👍🏻
look up the definition of "simplistic". Sorry.
Elegant in its simplicity.
I own a 2012 S4 and has been a great daily driver with 115K miles. Fun car to drive and to this day still drives the same as day one.
I do most of the service myself and have not had any minor or major repairs.
hows engine and transmission reliability any CEL which comes up randomly? How about electronics and censors thats only German car i would like to give try to
@@spawn11 I’ve never had issue with mine. Stage 2+ I beat on it and the newer s4 have no transmission issues. Just do the maintenance and your good
@@germandeath9795 s4 engine is strong to endure mods
That all black spec looks sweet.
I could easily enjoy living with an Audi, at least the sedan or an estate. They offer quite a lot of class without standing out… which I like. Thanks for the video.
My wife and I love seeing your videos and your spunky banter. Keep it up, from So. CA.
I have an SQ5 and love it. Has been one of the best cars I’ve owned. Im a true Audi fan and the S4 does not disappoint.
I went from an A4 to SQ5 and now an S5 lol.
I just took delivery of my S4 about 6 weeks ago. It is a luxury car with great sounds and speed. I got it in Tango Red that makes it much more sporty looking, and I like that you don’t see them on every corner, like the Genesis, BMW or Benz
Hi there! It's been a year since this comment. Are you still happy with it? Any maintenance issues?
@@markc9949 it will be 2 years in July. Love it. 2 small complaints are that the backup lights are terrible. If it wasn’t for the camera, I wouldn’t be able to back up at night. Second, the pre-sense safety is slightly intrusive. But other than that, it’s been a great car. It’s gotten faster too. No squeaks or rattles anywhere. Great quality and great dealer experience with the service dept.
That B&O sound system is so incredible. Better than the Harman Kardon in my M340i.
Great review as always, and what is especially true, and Zack you point out, which very few realize is numbers don't tell the whole story. For me I didn't look at them at all when I was looking at the class. I drove the C43, M340i, G70, even the rs5 sportback. And yes, all had more horsepower then the S4, but as I am a daily person and not a track person, for me the S4 didn't feel any slower than the M340, C43 and G70. All of them I had for a good hour test drive on a mix of highway and city. In fact the G70, even though having more horsepower if you are really into numbers is slightly slower to 60mph than the S4. As for the S4/RS5, again as a daily driver for me there just wasn't enough difference (only 95hp anyway-yes another turbo) to justify the extra money. Keep the great reviews coming.
Just picked up my S4 Premium Plus (USA) in Daytona Gray with Magma Red Nappa. Just spent 3 1/2 years in a 2020 BMW M340 xdrive. Former owner of a 2017 Audi S3. Love the Audis. Love the BMW. Each has their own positives and negatives. Things I might miss in the S4 vs the M340…head-up display, power trunk, factory nav, remote start. Gas mileage was excellent in the M340…S4 may be off a few MPG. No factory MMI navigation in my S4, but the easy integration of Apple CarPlay will suffice for directions using Waze or Apple maps. Thanks for the review!
Andrea knows fashion and cars. Looks great in both!
The reason I fall in love with this channel is these black Audis you have dropped recently on your channel
Great review Guys. Love watching the couple reviews. Yes I do subscribe.
Thank you guys, whenever I want a new car I look at your videos :)
To describe the S4/A4 as having a "simplistic" exterior design is unduly pejorative (negative). A better...and fairer...description would be a "classic, understated elegance", like a well-groomed guy wearing a smart, tailored tuxedo...as opposed to wearing a loud, flashy costume that screams for attention.
No
That sounds amazing, always supporting you guys 🙌🏻 ~Alfred
Thank you we appreciate that!
Love your videos, and especially Audi's. Great review!!!
Thank you very much!
I love coming back to this video, for the info, and how happy you guys feel, when driving this brand/segment. I guess I'm also biased, being an owner, and having owned Audis since the late 80s
Thank you! I can't get "totally comfortable" in any Hyundai/Kia product either. Whether it's the seating, side mirror adjustments ect, ect.... I'm not saying it's a bad vehicle. They just do not appeal to me personally.
Great review guys! I'm still cheering on an Audi A5/S5 review ;)
Always loved Audi’s clean styling. Sharp vehicles
Yeah wish they had hips like bmw
I like the Audi simple yet elegant styling inside and out. The older cars had confusing climate control, but the new ones are very easy to use at a glance, even if you are not that familiar with Audi products.
Love my 22 S5 sportback! Super quick car!
I agree with Andrea. I prefer a performance variant Audi. 👍🏼
Giddy up!! Love the quilted seats, touch screen def needs to be integrated.
Looking like such an afterthought.
Well done !!!! As usual …
Thank you for your great and honest review!
@@BigCar2_ no I haven’t, never heard about it before
Audi has always had a nice look to them..an pleasing interior..the AWD system would be great for our winters...but the repair cost I have heard are absolutely wacky..part of the charm??nicely done..enjoy
Been looking forward to this review Andrea. Looks and pulls well off the mark.super spec level for a single spec edition in Canada.
It certainly comes loaded in Canada!
Having some fun!
Love the Audi
Thank you!
Very nice review, thanks. Another Audi vehicle to consider is the S5 Sportback which for an incremental $3k provides the same engine, but in a more attractive package IMO with additional practicality.
at the expense of a tighter back seat, correct?
@@edlio1446 According to Audi specs, the difference in the S5 rear seat space vs S4 minimal, only about half an inch less for both headroom and legroom . However, with the S5 Sportback, the cargo space doubles from 12cu ft to 22cu ft vs the S4.
@@jimf7654i had a 2017 a4, 2019 sq5 and now a 23' s5 sb. The trunk space in the s5 is 👌 for the size.
Did try the Audi - bought the Giulia - just so much more engaging to drive (and it looks good too).
Love the Giulia, enjoy it!
You read my mind! I’m looking hard at the Giulia. Just wish it had a bit more horsepower for 2023. I still need to drive it to make up my mind.
The Alfa has lots going and loads of character. Hope you leased it
Imo, I still prefer the original exterior/interior look that originally came out in 2018…it really needs a new design now. Still a nice car that’s fun to drive though since I used to own the 2018 S5
I like its sharp-looking car.
I bought a 2018 S4 Prestige with the diff, damper, and steering options. Over 61,000 miles the car has had no unscheduled service visits and it has overaged 30 mpg measured at the pump. After the OEM Continental tires wore out, I switched to Michelin PS4s. In winter, I use aftermarket 18* wheels with Hakkas. This car offers a hard to beat combination of 4-season utility, comfort, efficiency, and decently serious performance when called for. The refresh models lost the wonderful central round tachometer my car has, and the very handy physical radio preset buttons. My gripes are few. The backup camera is awfully dim, but that’s compensated by an excellent overhead view. The throttle and transmission mapping in Comfort can sometimes cause a scary delay in acceleration when that’s suddenly called for by traffic situations. I’ve learned to be proactive, putting it in Dynamic when I anticipate a possible need for speed. My concern now, with retirement in the offing, is that there may be few choices of desirable ICE cars like the RS3 or Giulia QF. We have an EV, so when I retire I’d like something more compelling than the S4 that doesn’t have to be a daily. Sadly, even some of the higher tier cars have worse interiors than the S4. First World problem, I guess.
It's fun😍😍😍
In Europe, as of 2019, we get the S4 with a diesel, with around 340 horsepower and 516 pound feet of torque. We also get a station wagon S4 in Europe as a diesel. We used to get the gas engine in the S4 B9 before.
There were actually two TDIs available, a 347PS one and a 341PS one. The 347PS was shortlived and the 341PS one seems to have more torque early on. I'm driving the 347PS one and I'm on the second engine... so maybe the 341 is more durable? I mean there has to be a reason why the 347 was only available for like ~8 months. And TDIs simply don't sound good :( At least it has a ton of torque.
They should make an S4 Allroad. I'd buy that.
Would like to hear your review of the 2023 Audi S8 since we have most of the S's. It's suppose to be a real stealth speed machine.
Do you all get the Acura TLX type S in Canada? that would make a great comparison too
Can you please do the Audi TT. I have a 2020 992 911S and a TT 2023 both great cars. Want to see what Andrea thinks.
I’m just here for the leggs.
I wonder if the S4 is a mild hybrid but 48 volts. Surely the 2024 A4+ platform will have 48 volts and a better screen or better screens…
Great review, Andrea is the most well dressed of all car lady journalist out there
Awe thank you! 🙏
Surprised the CT5-V wasn't included in the 4 your consideration. How does this car stack up to the CT5-V in your view?
Great review. That slapped on nav-screen has always been a deal breaker for me. I HATE it!
Is the S4 considered a subcompact like the S3? The S5 is definitely compact. The S4 probably holds an in-between segment spot like the CT4-v!
Thanks for your review, as always. It's by-the-numbers boring 'styling' but that's OK. I guess it plays well off BMW's beaver teeth grille choices for some models (bonus: remember Bangle butts?).
Like the A5/S5 sport back style more.
Love what you said about not only looking at the power numbers. I drove the M340i recently and although the steering was superior - I had a WAY better time driving the S4. The sound enhancing exhaust and the easy drivability are what sold me.
The S4 looks so dull and plain when Andrea is featured. 😆 I don’t know if this was planned but whenever you shout Andreas driving POV those ivory legs are great contrast to the Audis interior. Lol
Would you guys consider doing a comparison video with the S4, C43, M340i?
The s4 in these year is Torsen or Haldex?
Good review the million dollar question which one would you choose is the M340i or the S4 for ride comfort or refinement ?
Tough one. I own a b9 s4 but seeing that new lci m340i and the tech with it makes me leans towards that. Fell in love with bmw after having a 2019 3 series as a rental
Do You think that Audi will ever make a Hybrid? They have an E-tron model but what about a Simple Hybrid model?
Need the integrated screen in the dash.
Are those exhaust functional or are they just for show
Hello guys. Any plans on reviewing S5?
Alfa Romeo Tonale - In Veloce Trim …. I already pre ordered it
Does Audi coming out with an S4 electric
Great driver, better than S7 which is just too big and heavy. Integrate the dash and display, add a few physical switches and it will be perfect.
The S7 is nice I got the s5 sportback. Idk if I’d say it’s better than an s7 tho.
Interior looks IDENTICAL to my RS 5.
Andrea is a great driver.
What about Cadillac CT5-V. Seems like direct competition and another car to look at.
Audis s class are a slot before high performance moddels from amg or M. Their RS models are aimed to compete with M and Amg. Unfortunately they're not usually available in the first model year. However S only stands for top luxury, a slot before top performance.
The Audi S4 is a great blend of luxury, comfort, and performance...especially when compared to competitors like the BMW 3 series and the Mercedes C-Class. You said that you had an Audi A7 for four years. What happened to it, and why did you get rid of it? Did you own or lease your A7? And then there's the question of long-term reliability and dependability over time. How well does the A4/S4 hold-up after years of driving and high mileage? For example, everyone knows that cars like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry last virtually "forever"...with low maintenance costs and very few mechanical problems...if any. And the same thing applies to Acura and Lexus, their respective luxury brands. So again, how does Audi hold up over time and extended mileage...AFTER the basic 4-year/50K mile warranty expires???
🤩
This would be fun with a 6spd manual.
We’ve got a B8 A4 S-Line 6MT (with APR ST 1) and my brother has the S4 6MT. We really enjoy the driving.
My adult children each drive Golf “R”s, and guess what transmission they chose?🤔
Why does it have a 2 sec lag time on the throttle
I've always liked the S4 before the craze of SUVs, I thought highly of them. But this review and hopefully the last model seems a bit boring now. Don't get me wrong, I think this car is an excellent daily driver with a lot of sporty nature but it just doesn't excite me anymore. I also think it's priced too high at $65K and probably as tested in the low $70Ks. Coming from an GLI that is half the cost of this vehicle, I don't feel like this car is twice the car for the money.
In Thailand no S4 has only a4 avant 45tfsi / Price about 106,060 usd ^_^
That Genesis would be compeling if they drop the price down a notch or two.
I find myself keep going back to Audi. While they may not be best in handling, performance, etc. They do everything really well.
Mind you, I am no "hooligan" like Andrea, so the A4 or A5 would be my choice. Great review.
The Alfa Romeo LOL don't get me started. Having owned them since the 80's, I have a question for you two. Does the Giulia come with a large plastic bag? Why? to put the parts in as they fall off going down the road. Great driving cars, but they literally fall apart. True Story. Driving to Santa Pod for a car meet, stopped at a junction for a light. Foot on the clutch, foot on the brake. Light changes, went to put it in first, the fk@ng gear lever had vanished like a magic trick. Cars now up my arse honking, handbrake on, car stalls out. I get out and look underneath, only to find the entire gear linkage lying on the ground!!
The 80s has 40 years ago....
I like Audi it's the power will make me go somewhere else because there's plenty of V6 Turbo AWD sedans that push over 360 horsepower for less money. Horsepower doesn't mean anything till you get smoked
Lovely car for sure! But to me, it just doesn't feel up to the level of the others in this group. Why would anyone buy this over the G70, M340i or even the CT5 V? Not really Audis most competitive product.
Audi is correct. Basic touchscreens are better than any touchpad or dial controller.
They learned the lesson just like Lexus. Will Mazda and Acura ever learn?
Even though this is an older interior, it looks better than the blobs of screens in new Audis. Still, the mid trim Premium Plus in the US is $58.5k. This is a terrible value. After TT&L, this small Audi is 65k. Not seeing it.
Isn't the 340 around the same price
I have a 2018. Pros - technology, interior and value compared to c43 and m340i - I bought mine used. Cons - engine/ transmission not as smooth as m340 or exciting as C43, exterior is bland, pumped in sound is annoying except for when you’re ripping it, fuel economy is worse than expected.
La plus belle femme que j'ai jamais vue
Andrea, you can still put it in "S" for subscribe LOL!!!
Haha!!!
I did subscibe because of your wife! 😂
I love the whole car except one lil big thing, that big ass tv screen blocking your view is just to much
3:25 A4 family explained/shown.
A5 is part of A4 family, based on same platform
Hate the big screen just stuck right on dash - new interiors way better
Audi every day/night
Audi Canada should a do a special edition called the "S4 Subscribe"
I love it!
Perfect!
I always thought it looked and drove well, but I can't justify the extra cost when a Stinger exists. Same with the S5. Felt the Kia actually drove slightly better.
Shafin..the comparison shows ignorance of cars in the same class...sorry
@@str8up574 Funny, almost every automotive journalist would agree the Stinger really competes with the Audi S4/S5, BMW M440i. I drove the Audi and BMW, as well as a TLX Type-S (which I put a pre-order deposit on). The Audi felt the least enjoyable to drive (too fake), the BMW the most and the Acura in between. If money was not a factor, BMW most likely but then I tried the Stinger.... and that's what ended up in my driveway with an extra $25k in my pocket.
Endless money pit as it ages though.🥵
Beautiful vehicle but touchscreen needs change. Zack is funny mentioned your bum is low. I don’t think, it’s either the seat is low or floor is a little high. Great video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!
@@andreaspencer9813 You are an very welcome Andrea! As always I enjoy both you and Zack conversations. 😆
5:30 just like Mazda does
Owned a B9 S4, car was OK, but audis get pretty boring after like a year, plus the sports seats kill your back after like an hour.
The fact they only have 1 trim now, is kind of a joke
I don’t understand why these cars are so cramped? It’s not practical if you have a tall family.
She said it “ Put it in S” 😂
When it comes to Audi I always feel obligated to make a public service announcement. Once the newness wears off be prepared for the worst ownership experience. If you must have one, just lease the vehicle and pray you never have to deal with their service.
I had a 2012 S4. I sold my 2006 Boxster to buy this car. That was the biggest mistake of my car buying experiences ever. On my first recall for engine issues I decided my experience with Audi was going to be my last. Your PSA resonated with me.
Prestige, style and a splash of oil consumption. What a steal…
310,000 km 2014 Q5 zero problems. Nine years old
No problems at all in my S4 until it hit 11 years and I have the S5 sportback too.
The B9 A4 is one of the most reliable in its class what are you talking about
The German’s car in not, Like used to be…
They are cutting corners big-time
My wife just got a brand new 2022 BMW X4 almost 70K to much plastic and parts from China 😢
My personal opinion I think the Honda and Subaru much better car.
And less forever…
Loved my 2011 A5 with a manual. Bit underpowered but no matter. Drove the A4/S4 since from time to time. But Audi lost me for now... PS EV is overpriced.
Andrea you're very beautiful!!
Thank you so much!
