An Irish melody with a Portuguese name played by a Canadian using an American guitar: brilliant. ;) In all seriousness, this is an amazing, amazing song. Thanks to Peter Berg and company for their judicious use of this track in "Friday Night Lights". If not for that film I might not have ever discovered this track, and therefore the rest of Daniel's music.
hell.. what can you do for an encore after that???? never ever heard anything so well played ..just beautiful..i was born in 1950 and heard just about everything out there..i am stunned ..wow...'thank you' seems so meaningless..its all i got..smiling.
Daniel has such a great sense of melody. This reminds me of melodies I've heard in my dreams, the difference is Daniel has the intent and creativity to develop it into something amazing.
@brucewhitehouse The version on cool water is this one: h-uh3YKXakE . The first recording of Sonho Dourado was on Trip around 1993, which is the most famous version (Friday Night Lights for example).
A bit late to the game with this comment, but this is not the same version as the one on Cool Water. That version was only Daniel on electric with an acoustic guitar accompanying him. The earliest recording of the song is from the 80s - the remastered version of Acadie (1989) has it.
This sounds close to the studio version, especially the keyboard arrangement--Lanois has at least one other live recording (featured on his "Cool Water" CD) that's much more raw and pared-down. I'm surprised to see this performance dated 1989, before any of recordings were released. Does anyone know what year Lanois recorded "Sonho" in the studio? I don't care about the pirate shirt, this song rules.
Listen to his 1st album "Acadie" (1989) .. the remastered version actually has an early take of Sonho Dourado. The rest of the album is superb - his best, in my opinion. The cuts "The Maker", "Still Water" and especially "Ice" are personal favourites.

One of the most beautiful songs ever written and played. Wow.

Sublime. C est la dernière que j aimerais entendre le jour du grand départ !!
The universe isn't so bad in that it can make sounds like this. This is like Beethoven plugged-in. Thanks, Danny!
I guess you are right
Fuck yeah buddy 🕺🔥

Thanks for posting all these videos. Excellent stuff.
Bittersweet
Guerrier des mots
La chasse est ouverte
Pour la découverte
Les tambours immondes le ciel
L’essentiel des mondes
Démon des mots
Des phrases qui se réveillent
La voix est ouverte
La voie piétinée des bases qui résonnent
Les verbes entre en actions
Sorcier des mots
Je parle en incantation
Je sermonne les visages sans vie
Je dénonce les terres dévastées
Les déserts de l’esprit
Gourou des mots
Des mêmes mots
Présentés différemment
Je saigne les ravages
Pour leurs redonner du gout
Humain des mots
En transhumance d’images
J’affiche les horizons qui bougent
Qui se déplace pour réapparaitre plus loin
Pour faire naitre l’âme
Conscience des mots
Une comète passe
Sans douleur
Sans peur

Hey, man. If the Pirate Shirt is good enough for SRV and Prince, then I think DL can pull it off. I, for one, dig it!
Don’t know much by Daniel lanois but does anyone know any of his other work which can compete with this?
