    If Fanatec was this innovative they wouldnt be going out of business.

      Yeah it's been hard watching Fanatec over the last 3 years. They have done a lot of good for the simracing scene and I hope they can give us racers confidence in their products and support quickly - because that confidence has been very lacking for a long time, which is a shame.
      But the good thing is that the people who bought formula rims (and there's a lot!) will have access to affordable and innovative replacement grips when they need them - right here! 😂

      It's a team effort honestly. I didn't come up with all these designs myself, they were suggested to me and I just made it happen. That said I am very proud of where the project is today!

    You deserve extreme props for this, Doc! Seriously! You absolutely should be proud of this... Such an asset to the sim community mate

      Thanks Gregory, I hope this inspires others to do the same! I hope to see more creativity and more ideas, so the people have more choice :)

    Alright Doc, You've convinced me to get a 3d printer of my own. But learning how and what to design is still a challenge😅

      It's a cool technology and I think you'd be great with it! If you never have the tech, you'll never develop the skills 😄

    just downloaded the complete package. Nice work!
    starting to figure out which combo I want... you need a flow chart to navigate v2 or v2.5 and all the different pieces to print!

      Thank you so much!
      Honestly, organising the files in a user friendly way was one of the most challenging parts of putting this package together.
      I'll try to develop a flowchart, but in a nutshell:
      1. Open the folder and you'll see a photo of the designs in that folder
      2. Open the project file that matches your printer size
      3. Each project file is fully self contained and you can make a complete rim from within that project (I've designed the files to be fully cross compatible between open and closed bottom V2, V2.5, F1 limited edition, eSports, formula carbon etc rims)
      If you happen to have made the classic 280mm grips already, you can make the GT3, D and Round rim fronts and they'll bolt straight on (without making the dedicated rears) (and the 290mm for the GT3)
      But mixing and matching, although possible, is not necessarily - as stated before each project file is fully self contained. I hope that helps, and please upload lots of photos of your project everywhere you can!

      @@DrAlanQuan the videos explain it pretty well, I just had to watch it again after downloading the package. I was kinda joking about the flowchart!

    absolutely brilliant mate!!! this is some innovative stuff you're managing to do and I'm all for it. got the new 290xls on the a1 now. not messing around with support settings just using petg as support in the ams. somehow only wasting 11 grams of filament with over 60 changes. maybe their new update has worked.

      @DrAlanQuan  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thank you! I'd love to see photos of the grips mid print, and the finished product! I haven't used PLA/PETG as a support/main material and would love to see how it works out :)

    lol to think this all started from a defect in the F1 wheel design. Hopefully these make the wheel stronger.

    • @DrAlanQuan
      @DrAlanQuan  Před 3 měsíci

      Haha yeah some odd design choices (I agree, I would call them defects) but thankfully the wheels are quite straightforward to take apart and rebuild
      The factory closed bottom rims are pretty strong as is, but the open bottom wheels like mine are noticeably more flexible and my reinforcements do improve it by a lot. I've made my designs fit both so everybody can enjoy them!

    Never thought about using TPU along with PLA for handgrips. Now I have to try it
