The Australian dollar has been tanking for years. Even with an FTA agreement, its very difficult to price cars under $20k now. Remember when some cars were $12, 990 drive-away? AUD's dropped to the point where it must now be $18-$19k instead.
You write that the Mazda 2 is an expensive car. But it Switzerland, it costs around 27 000 CHF (about 42 500 AUD) for this version. The engine is only 66 kw (90 ps) and 148 Nm torque with the automatic gearbox. It’s not an expensive city car here. Popular city cars in Europe (Peugeot 208, Renault Clio, VW Polo, Ford Fiesta, Seat Ibiza, Skoda Fabia, Citroën C3) are usually more expensive with the same level of equipment. Expensive car are premium cars such as Audi A1 or Mini (which belongs to BMW). It can cost more than 40 000 CHF (63 000 AUD) with a mid power engine (115 ps to 150 ps). The only low cost car is Dacia Sandero which starts at 9 000 CHF (14 100 AUD) with a really small engine and equipement from year 1980 in Eastern Europe 😂.
Just checked the underside of my 2017 mazda 3 and was shocked to find the painful truth. All bushings, bolts nuts and basically all the components are severely corroded because of lack of galvanised protection coating. This is a cost saving trick done by Mazda and I urge every person that bought one to chech at least the bolted connections from behind each wheel. Mazda seem to get away with it but this is dangerous long term for drivers who buy used cars(mine was brand new with 50 miles on clock) . I will troll Mazda on every channel to raise people awareness of the dangers they expose themselves to by buying Mazda cars. Thank you for reading my comment and stay safe.
Just checked your videos and as expected you’re in the US, probably in the salt belt (snowy areas where they salt the road to remove ice, which corrodes vehicles, for other viewers who are unsure what this means). This is an Australian review site, largely watched by Australians so there is no need for panic in Australian conditions, where Mazdas are the top selling car behind only Toyota and there are tons of old Mazdas working reliably on the roads. Carry on.
We have one. The worst thing about it is engine. 1.5lt is pretty gutless, at least the GT should have a Turbo. Other than that it's a well specified car. It's 2022 now and a GT model 2 is just north of 30k
Hey mate, Was planning to get a used Mazda 2 (15000Kms). The main reasons I'm reconsidering it are comparatively lower engine capacity and boot size. How bad is the engine capacity though. Would like to go consistently at 120kmh on long trips once in a while. Do you think 1.5L would be good enough?
@@jeril7153 G'day, It totally could do long trips at 120Km/h from time to time. We have done so and no issues at all and the engine is not working too hard. My wife uses it ever day asa her company car and I use it in the weekend. It's a bloody good quality car and very spacious inside. Ours is a year old and done 15,000. Wish you could buy a manual, but thats the way it is these days...
@@serverlan763 Thanks for the quick reply mate. So why did you think initially that the engine isn't good enough? I have a used Mazda 2 2019 G15 Evolve in my wishlist and am leaning further towards getting it.
@@jeril7153 I was used to driving a 5 series BMW and they have the best transmissions in the business. I found the Mazda 2 auto a bit jerky and under powered as a consequence. I'm used to it now and it's bloody good car. The quality of the Mazda's is excellent also
Nice car but terrible value. You can get a base spec corolla for that price and it's WAY bigger, has like 40% better fuel economy while also having more power and torque. It also includes the basic safety tech like autonomous braking, lane keeping etc except blind spot monitor.
Base spec corolla is at least 3k more expensive than this car, and if you opt for the hybrid which I assume is what you mean when you say 40% fuel economy, it will end up costing 5k more. I don't understand your point.
I don’t understand why you’re praising a car that has barely changed at all and is incredibly overpriced. Seriously, you make $27K before on-road costs for a cramped small car sound like it doesn’t matter at all. I think you should’ve torn Mazda to bits the laziness and price gauging, even for the base model.
Bear in mind that Mazda is now a premium brand so it competes with likes of BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and Infiniti and maybe a Genesis because that's a luxury brand.
Nabhan On Cars I’m just going to pretend you didn’t say that lol. They’re not a luxury brand, the old Mazda 2 wasn’t a luxury car which is 95% identical to the new one, don’t make excuses for them.
I owned a pre-facelift Mazda 2. It's a fantastic car, but I don't see enough justifications to go for a new one, other than styling ( which I absolutely love btw ) What I like about the car : - Handling - Fuel Economy - N/A motor - Texture feel on the things I often touch ( climate knobs, steering wheels, etc ) - Infotainment UI simplicity Why I can't justify the new car : - Same infotainment ( works well, but considering it's 2020, graphics looks ancient ) - NVH levels, considering how well the Mazda 3 is I mean it's not a bad car, but considering how well Mazda stepped-up the 3/6 & the price jump, they could've done a better job.
Wait there’s no Mazda2 XD Touring 1.5 turbo-diesel with fog lamps and rear disc brakes the practical turbo-diesel warm hatch import from Japan. And also a hybrid could run on ethanol unleaded with electric motors save air quality.
"GT". Haha. Yeah, nah. The value is kind of poo too - so many similarly equipped cars in this price bracket with more space/power/warranty. If it was $5k cheaper it would be solid and the value and dynamics would outweigh its shortcomings, but not at this price.
These days, the Mazda 2 is actually priced in the middle range for small cars some cost into the 30k mark now. Priced have just gone up and Mazda were one of the first to do so a year ago.
Or, you can buy an I30, which adding the sedan version previously called Elantra was the third best selling vehicle in 2019. Only surpassed by Ranger and Hilux which are not really "cars". The I30 has a boot 40% better than your tested Mazda 2. Also about 40% bigger than the corolla hatch.
@@morishogo144 I've never had a problem with my 2008 Mazda 2. In fact between my parents, siblings and grandparents we've had about 8 Mazdas in the last 25 years alone and can say there's never been a problem with any of them between 10-20 years of owning each one. Just amazing on that front and I'm hesitant to buy from another brand.
Bizarre choice to recommend a Hyundai i30 against this, why not it’s larger i30 class stablemate the bestseller Mazda3. I’m sure they picked Mazda for a reason and the current 3 wipes the floor with the i30, and truly feels like a luxury car. Even the last gen ones were pretty decent and had a better interior than this overpriced Mazda2.
My 2011 model is the same Tin and engine, I see nothing amazing here. Little $100 screen , Apple and android play. I’ll keep mine for another 5 years! Have they put thinner tires on? They look like cookie cutters. Bad value new.
You know what? I like the pre-facelift 2018-2019 better, it got extra two fog lights and the style even the wheels look much better! This facelift version is a big failure! I see many new Mazda 3 on the street and never seen one new Mazda 2.
It’s a great little car , which is vastly underrated. A Quality piece of Kit .
Geoff Langley Hi Geoff I'm considering one of these are they reliable?
@@jerryrawlings8885 Best car I’ve ever had . Very well made , real quality and very economical . Pleasure to drive.
I have just purchased the M2 Evolve, as a recently retired lady, I'm very happy.
Thank you Ringwood Mazda.

$42,500 AUD is very expensive for that type of car in Australia.
4:40 oh look, an old Mazda 2!
Love the little 'lonely' bit when you got to the backseat 😅
That aside, I'm buying this as me first car!
I saw a lot of Mazdas driving around the area, it's Mazda town
I just wish they revised the interior abit more and probably add comfort features (armrests front and rear)
I sold a GR Yaris and bought the 2 GT half the price twice the fun, I kid you not. 😎
Wtf dumb decision you got there bud! lol
I’m kinda sad this isn’t coming to the U.S.

There is nothing exciting about a Mazda 2. The Kodo design does not suit this small car.
You should see it in person to appreciate the design, photos or videos don't do justice.
It seems to look pre crashed like the Mazda 3 which has tanked in sales and has similar poor packaging.

Hi! Is this car deep crimson or soul red colour?
It's an updated soul red....much nicer than the old version. Our new one in that colour arrives next week 😊
Opens the hatch, talks about load capacity etc and, as per too many reviewers, completely overlooks the absence or presence of a spare wheel 🙄
