I picked one of these up for an amazing price a couple of years ago and some thoughts after playing it at home for a couple of years:
It's a fantastic amp for full, saturated low end sounds at lower volumes. With the feedback up a little it fills the room with bass frequencies without needing high volume or becoming flabby or muddy in a way I'm simply not able to replicate with my solid state amp (the also excellent Genzler Magellan 350).
What I don't like about it is the way the preamp distorts when you really push the gain high isn't to my taste, it's a very rough, growling mid range "overloaded" sort of drive sound that can sound quite messy. It's much more comfortable at that sweet spot just around the point of break up where it's just adding saturation, harmonics, and just a little grit; that's where this amp shines for me. If I want a really 'driven' sound I still reach for a pedal like my B3k, which does actually sound fantastic into the saturated preamp.
It's not the sort of amp I would take out to rehearsal or gigging, both because of the volume and build, the build is perfectly find but that many tubes squeezed into this little package, especially in weird sideways orientation would make me nervous to transport it a lot. As a second amp to my little class D Genzler it's the perfect partner though. Not sure if I would personally pay the current asking prices for it now but sure glad I picked it up when I did!
Love that intro jam!!!
Amp sounds great to my ears
thanks a lot guys....now I have to have one of these. Great.
Great review. Love this guy.
Great great player and a lovely sounding amp!
Thanks Gregor for this recommendation. Today, here is new amp day. ;-) Sounds great.
I have one in my teaching studio at the college. It's hooked up to an Ashdown 1x10" cabinet with an Eminence 10" driver. I love the amp and. use it everyday I'm at work. The speaker that came in the 1x10" cab sounded like crap so I had to replace it. The whole rig sounds great now.
Excellent video and awesome bass amp! I play lots of shitty sounding rooms and bars so maybe I need one of those, or two!
i never get enough of the 6 string hollow adamovic
Nice sounding amp, especially with that Sandberg bass.
My idea of using it at rehearsal and live would be a setup like yours (with that DI Loadbox) but using it just like a preamp and putting a solid state power amp behind it.
Problem with an all tube amp usually is: If you like a certain amount of power tube overdrive (and that's the reason you still use tube power amps), you just get it at one volume setting that doesn't fit into your actual band situation 90% of the time. Using this little beast with a load box avoids this problem. If you have a powerful solid state amp behind it you have your favorite sound at any volume you need/like.
I recently bought a TC Thrust 500. It's a great little amp that's ridiculously cheap for its power and sound quality. It's powerful enough to handle all live situations for me. Could be a perfect match.
Sounds great! It is also still possible to find the smaller brother, CTM-15.
Sounds great !
"On the far-right, where we usually have UKIP"
I spat out my drink laughing. Thanks!
“Wintage”!
Splendid! The feedback control seems to be like the aural enhancer on the SWR Interstellar Overdrive (which has the added advantage of having a blend control). Good amp, good demo and tasteful playing as usual thanks
Wish it had speakon outputs as they’re far better than ordinary jacks but that’s Ashdown for you. They always have jacks.
Nope, the aural enhancer sounds very different
@@basstheworldofficial I was under the impression it boosted the low end? At least that's what it sounds like to me (and the manual said?)
Love your use of language. Hard to believe it's you're not speaking in your native tongue! Congratulations.
Nice sounds awesome
It also looks awesome .. :)) Like a Cadillac.
Is it a coincidence that this amp just went up for preorder on Sweetwater?
All I hear is cleans, cleans and more cleans. I want a modern tube bass amp that will give me some good SVT or Fliptop style grit and those nice low mids for P-bass.
Get an old Little Bastard from Ashdown !
Get the CTM 100 or the 300. Those have the kids and grit you are requesting.
Check the 15w one. Your amp breaks up at lower volumes with lower-wattage tube amps. In other words, when you crank the volume, you get a natural OD. Add gain, you get that grit. Not loud enough to jam w/ friends though.
For what you’re going to pay for this amp, you might as well get an SVT.
Whatever happened to Bass Chops 3?
Please, could you go and grab a Kustom DE1200HD bass amp head and do a proper review on it? The overall info on it is very small... Thank you in advance...
Thank you Gregor!
Now I know what your name is.
Wow its very nic🔥🔥🔥😘😘
That's funny. My wife calls me "Little Stubby".
Key word being..Wife. You must be getting the job done.
which pickup is that in his jazzbass ?
Genre: Pop/Hip Hop/Funk Rock/R&B/Jazz Fusion
Instruments: keys/synth, 2 guitarists, vocals, 2 saxophones and a very loud drummer
Environment: rehearsal space.
What wattage for a tube bass amp would you suggest for this situation?
Sounds like a 100w situation to me
@@basstheworldofficial Thank you! And thank you for your content! It has helped me make many informed purchases
If Arnold discussed bass amps
Joe Dart bobblehead?
T- Hawk yea, they sell them via the vulfrecords website. I‘d already have one myself, but shipping to Germany + import duty make it pretty expensive for me :/
Great demo. Your UKIP comment made me laugh! 😂😂😂😂
so much better hear lars demo the stuffs than the djent kid
Ashdown, Orange, Ampeg. Next.
Quilter please!!
I'd like to think I'm good at mic'ing up microphones.. :)

Can you load custom IRs into that TwoNotes Captor?
Nope
BassTheWorld.com thx for your reply! :) couldn’t find that anywhere.
@@basstheworldofficial is it possible to get an Ampeg type growl from this amp??
The lack of XLR DI out is a dealbreaker for me, honestly.
Why? You can use a short adapter cable if you’re concerned a venue doesn’t have a TRS to XLR cable
@@basstheworldofficial I would just prefer to not have another cable to keep track of.
@@basstheworldofficial Good to know
Honestly that’s like not buying a car because it doesn’t have a cup holder.
I would buy this amp but I probably wouldn't buy I car without cupholders
horizontal
Close your eyes during the video......it’s as If Arnold sold bass amps. Get to the choppa!!!!!!!!
However, I wish I were as rapidly, intelligently, and amusingly articulate in ANY language as this multi-lingual gentleman is in English.
$800 not cheap.
More like cheap by comparison. Finding good tube bass heads under $1000 is hard
Not remotely surprised at the tag..A great pawnshop tube amp for bass saturation is the Silvertone 4388 * about 20 watts and impressive bottom for it's size. * i think that's correct ...
30watts? What for? Baptize gigs?
Don’t underestimate 30w from an all-Tube amp
Your church rocks
Not that expensive? It's nearly a thousand US dollars for this amp head lol $926.99 +shipping in no way am I complaining about this amp. This little guy isn't so little, but it's absolutely perfect for most at home bass enthusiasts and hobbyists. Sweet sounding
It’s cheaper over here across the big pond. There aren’t many tube amps in this price range
jajajajajajaaa subscribe subliminal over the amp... cool
20 secs sound,,, then talk 10 mins
Using the Two Notes Torpedo is not going to give us an idea what the amp really sounds like with a cabinet--not even close. Why bother even making this video if you can't mic a cabinet. Jeez!
Wow… so brave!
Play more talk less!
Appreciate more, complain less
