first time checking your channel and nice job. First heard Benson around 74 with Body Talk and been a huge fan, seen him many times and spoke backstage, very warm friendly. I've listened to everybody from Martino, Pass, Farlow, Garland to modern NY players and still come back and learn from Benson. He has his critics but few have his technical abilty and creativity, not even including his commerical success over the years. He's impacted everthing I play, country, jazz, rock. Huge thanks for posting.
my music practice divided in two part before i find your channel and after i discover your channel. now days i practice 80% stuff from your channel thank u
George Benson is absolutely something else, what a player and thanks for the video of one my favourite songs. If you fancied having a look at the solo from The World is a Ghetto that would be out of this world.
Qué bien hecho está este análisis!! Muchas gracias Nick. Estoy aprendiendo ingles para poder apreciar en su totalidad sus comentarios en éste y en todos sus videos por que son excelentes. Buena vida!!.
Absolutely impressed. So professional video, so inspiring analysis. A real gem, you and your work are! Checking out other vids, and if as great and useful as this, subscribing.
The sample you chose to analyze here barely scratches the surface of what Benson is capable of. I would have loved to see a more complex part of this or another performance analyzed, but thank you nevertheless, you've done a pretty cool job.
Thank you for the wonderful analysis of this seminal solo!! I think the rhythmic repetition with shifting may have been learnt from Grant Green, another master. Let me go try to learn some of those techniques 😀
How come nobody is talking about how great an actor George Benson was in the Rocky movies as Apollo Creed ? ....And yes that's a joke..... Nobody needs to rush to the keyboard to educate me they are not the same person.... But let ask you.. Has anyone ever seen George Benson and the actor who plays Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) in the same place at the same time ? I think not... lol. Anyway I really wish in the 90s they made a George Benson movie like they did for Ray Charles and Johnny Cash. Carl Weathers who played Apollo Creed would have been perfect to play George Benson. He's such a great actor I can only imagine the absolute gem of a movie that could have been. What a great video, I really enjoyed it. George Benson is superhuman and you hit this breakdown of his solo out of the park. I just subscribed. Great job on this. Best of luck
One of my favorite Beatles albums is Georges remake of Abbey Road into a jazz album " the other side of Abbey Road " I first saw him when he joined Benny Goodman on a PBS special where they played all the sextet music with Charlie Christian. Benson brought his ghost and you could tell Benny dug him ..probably the same knocked out face he showed that skinny upstart Christian kid after he soloed effortlessly over Rose Room for 26 times. George has been a monster player from a young age ...and has one of the greatest voices.
There is only one George Benson, handle w care, like a classic. Yeah, Georges scat really rounds out those leads, gives them a quality they don't have when they stand on their own. George is definitely one of my earliest jazz influences or even wanting to listen to proper jazz that's not overly jazzy to the point you can't relate, even if u r a musician. Then I got into the standards, Oscar Peterson, Joe pass, Wes Montgomery ...etc., I don't consider myself in the same league as George
As great as this video is, it broke my heart. I only ever heard one live version of this song, and I thought the solo is improvised and that he can churn out these monstrous kinds of things at will. Weep
I'm wondering if it was improvised the first time and the recording was such a hit that he had to go back and learn his own solo, so that people wouldn't be disappointed in future concerts if he didn't play what they were used to hearing on the radio. Great video, Nick!
Thank you for another master class Nick.Excellent,as usual.
Sure got my morning off to a soulful and inspired start! Thanks Nick!

your videos never fail to amaze me!!
Thanks again for another great video. Your content and analysis are excellent!
Brilliant video - as always & of the master himself. George Benson is a good subject to study.
Oh man. You are a treasure. Thanks for this kind of videos
I love the random "Bob James". (Yup. There he is). Awesome!
Brilliant video! :)
Jens Larsen ... nothing else to add ... can only jump on the band waggon 😁!!!
so kind! thanks!
It's wonderful seeing the brilliant guitar instructor Jens Larsen here. I learned about the rhythmic shifting of Grant Green from him.
Thanks Nick. Great job
Another excellent video. Thanks

It's all about the Rhythmic Repetition, that's signature GB IMO......
Many thanks for the upload!

Great analysis job! It's almost sad to understand how feeling and groove work ;-)
DANG!!
My Lord! Never before would have thought how similar he is to Stevie Wonder! Makes sense. Both are otherworldly talents!
BTW, check out the allstar band version of this song performed at the first international jazz day event in 2012.
This is so incredible...????
Awesome breakdown on GB!
Break us down some Bendik Hofseth! Either "IX" or Steps Ahead days!
Yeah. Love Bendik!
Check out the whole solo on his live album where he goes almost to as Jackie McClean used to call,” The Big Room”
does anyone have any tips on wich scales to use for this song?
Some Queen Ella next?
Awesome! Just a little correction, I think Alphonso Johnson played Black Market in the album version, instead of Jaco.
Love it great graphics, humor and musical info. But isn’t the song ON broadway?
The Big Room is taking into open or fourths and modal playing
Clap clap clap clap!
I heard a different performance of this tune and he played the exact same solo note for note.
4:18 baby shark 🦈 is it you?? .. Great video.!! I’m your new subscriber.!!

the lyrics......hahaha

Me too when I started the video. Your heart will recover. He could not play a bad phrase if he tried!

SCAT
There are much better examples of Benson's mastership ...
that is so dumb. Every note he touches is a gift from God. To classify one as better than another is so cringe
