the ship at 4:33 (the one in the background) is the SS Statendam for the Holland America Line, later to be the SS Justicia sailing as a troopship and sinking after she was hit by 6 torpedoes (not fired at the same time), only to show how good the Harland and Wolff ships were designed and build!
Ah yes the Justicia there were plenty of photographs during its sinking too
I didn't expect it to be such a tame subreddit. Reddit kind of carries that weight of being batshit crazy
They could have at least preserved the grand staircase....
I think there are parts of it actually still preserved somewhere
The Olympic's Grand Staircase is on display at the Titanic museum in Southampton I believe, but the admission fee is ridiculous. Titanic's Grand Staircase went down with the ship, and was long eaten away by the time the wreck was found, so there was no way to preserve Titanic's Grand Staircase.
Tony Hinojosa I’ve been to a replica grand staircase and small museum in Florida. It had replica Halls, and wheelhouse. It was a the coolest thing ever. But to see an actual staircase would be amazing.
This subreddit is clearly a place of culture.
Also, 1:32 is not fish, but rather the lobsters in the ship's kitchen escaping.

However, I've seen way too many memes, and my enthusiasm in the Titanic has made me like the "Lobsters on the Titanic" meme, so I just couldn't resist.

The TITANIC disaster has been a popular topic, since day one! The very first TITANIC movie ("Saved From Titanic") came out just a month after the sinking. It stared Dorothy Gibson (actress and actual survivor)! The outfits used in the film included what she wore off the ship, when it sank. Shame the OLYMPIC wasn't saved - since both ships were so identical. She could have been a museum or something.

Sadly, that movie was lost. As far as I know, no copies of it have been found. If I'm wrong about this, please correct me.
I wish there were more documentaries about Olympic, she had such a very interesting career and there's also so many photographs as well as a lot of film footage of her waiting to be used for such a thing.

The Titanic, Olympic and the Britannic had their own paintings. But seeing the Olympic in her Dazzle Camouflage was just spectacular. It looked cool, and it was loaded with deck guns for the WWI.

Fun fact: There is a single photo that was taken as the Titanic was sinking, a picture of Molly Brown sitting at a table
''tell me what you like about titanic'' I literally love that kind of ''secret'' doors it had for the engineers and crew, I like how many simple walls decorations such as the first class smoking room looked like simple paintings and wooden decorations on walls but actually there where hidden doors that passed as one more wall decoration, also I like a lot the tank room skylight for the engine room, Im sure it was awesome for engineers during the morning seeing the sun rays coming through the tiny portholes the skylight had.
That kind of details are what I love about titanic and the other olympic ships
Impressive to hear the sound of the whistles from back then. And it is very imposing. I sometimes wish I could have seen these boats with my own eyes, in the context of the time.

Dante Sanchez I don’t think so, I was there this summer and the park is already nearing completion, the gate was still standing but they had removed the last stone remnants of the building from the base.
@@Drakelx55 Maybe they might keep it, they did created the park pretty fast, I think they would have already removed the Cunard-White Star line archway by now if they wanted to clear space for the progress they already have, but who knows, hopefully they keep it there.
Dante Sanchez well hopes are good considering the official artist renderings of the park show the archway still standing so... it seems at least that they plan to keep the arch

Hearing Olympic's whistle then hearing Titanic's whistle, they are completely different. Titanic's sounds like pain and distress, I kinda broke a tear.
Well the audio from the Titanic whistle tests is with compressed air rather than steam which creates a different sound. And the Olympic audio is extremely old so is likely missing some clarity too. In your head try to merge the 2 sounds together and you might get closer to a true sound. :)
That's so true, though. It's almost as if, over the course of her sinking and the chaos that followed, _Titanic_ took on the misery and pain of it all, and reflected it back, relaying her pain through the agony of trying to again sound her once-mighty voice. I understand the reasoning for the hollow, tinny sound of Titanic's salvaged whistles, but you almost can't miss the desperation in the sound.

Somehow, modern ships have higher superstructures, that seems bit off.
And that makes them look weird. Like a floating shopping mall. Queen Mary 2, on the other hand, still have that look of an ocean liner. Probably because she was built to be a liner, not a cruise ship.
It's because there's a lot more going on in a modern cruise liner, and Titanic and let's say Legend of the Seas have different missions. Titanic was a means of commerce, travel, and immigration with the objective of getting from A to B as quickly as she could. Whereas Legend of the Seas (and other cruise liner) is to be a floating hotel that takes people on a rolling tour of a far off destination as a means of pleasure, as well as a means to separate you from as much of your money as possible.

I actually went to Pier 54 recently, they’ve already removed the last stone remnants of the original building around the gate... the gate still stands as of summer of this year at least and at least official artist depictions of the finished park show the gate still standing so... all we can do is hope that nothing happens to it

You also have to remember that this isn’t even 100% accurate to how Olympic sounded as audio capturing along with video wasn’t as good or crisp as it is today. Still gives me shivers though.

If Titanic wont sinks at April 15th 1912 she might still sinks beacuse of WW1 and be torpeded and Britanic she would survive becouse when she hit sea mine she was only 6 miles away from Kea island and after the war 3 ships sisters might have a chance to be fotographed together. The White Star Line would survive to this day and today we would see at the sea very often White Star Line ships. 🚢🛥⛴🛳🚤⚓

Sorry spammals. The pier and the arch are long gone. However the building on the pier that titanic was supposed to dock at is still there, looks very different though.

Can you do a video on and about each four funnel ships and the only five funnel ship and maybe an extra video on the 4 funnels that never were. If I remember correctly, 14 4 funnels and I think theres 2 American that werent made, and some more European 4 funnels. I know funnels mean very little today but theres something about 4 funnels and 5 funnels that just do something 2 me. Imagine a ship with 6 funnels omg the elegance
