  • Dirtcom Hitch Mounted Tire Carrier - Review (Daily and Offroad experiences)
Dirtcom's TRAIL SWING HD (heavy duty) fits a variety of full size trucks and SUVs. If you've upgraded to bigger tires and can't find a place to put your full size spare, then your search ends here! This is a great alternative to a heavy full metal rear bumper replacement. At 97 lbs. this high clearance tire carrier was designed to offer you the best in functionality without compromising aesthetics.
    Features
Designed to mount up to a 40" tire. Height adjustable 1/4" steel tire mount.
True HD. Available to mount in 2", 2.5", or 3" tow hitch receivers.
Solid 2" Steel Bar. Others use a hollow tube. We use a solid steel bar. This CNCd solid steel bar slides into your vehicle tow hitch for a solid and durable tow point.
Auto latching hinge locator locks the arm in 3 open positions. The locator pin slides along a stainless steel plate with 3 hole positions. The locator pin can also be set to a free swing position. Keep your hands free and avoid the hassle of manually placing pins in the hinge.
Built in Mounting Points, mount your rotopax and license plate straight to the swing arm. Mount a Front Runner table with our Table mounts. Our Hi-Lift jack mount is on it's way.
1,000 lb. rated latch to keep your gear secure.
Stainless steel safety pin This 12mm diameter pin will keep the arm secured and rattle free even if the latch is accidentally opened.
Anti wobble hitch mechanism keeps the tire swing from rattling in your vehicle tow hitch.
Bottle opener is attached to the safety pin lanyard.
Multiple mounting points. The vertical and horizontal 3/16" plates are laser cut with multiple holes to enable you to easily mount your own accessories with m14 and m12 nuts and bolts.
Wheel/Tire Mount. Everything you need to mount your spare tire. Lug nuts and wheel studs included. Top wheel stud is welded on for ease of installation.
Integrated License Plate Mount. Comes with an integrated license plate mount.
License Plate Light. Yes, it comes with a light!
Trail Bracket. Mount your rotopax and other accessories behind or on the side of the tire! You can mount one on the rear and side at the same time for 2 rotopax. Additional Cost
Accessory Hitch. The accessory hitch bolts on with no modification to allow mounting of tow hitch accessories such as bike racks. This accessory hitch bolts on using 4 large M12 bolts (same diameter as your lug nuts) so you know it's sturdy! It also has a built in anti rattle system. Additional Cost
Seamless Integration. The Trail Bracket, Accessory Hitch, and Fold down table were designed in unison. You can use all 3 at the same time!
    Build
2.0" .120 wall chromoly tubing for added strength and style. Chromoly has a higher strength to weight ratio than hot rolled and cold rolled steel tube. These parallel chromoly tubes are plated with 3/16" steel for added strength.
2" Tow hitch receiver. Mounted on CNC'd solid steel bar. Tucked up high for off road clearance. Rated to 10,000 lbs GTW. Do not exceed recommended vehicle tow capacity.
Dirtcom EPDM rubber pad will add extra strength and support. We located this directly under the tire to relieve stress on the hinge to withstand rough off road conditions. Strategically placed rubber stoppers are placed throughout to absorb vibration and keep your tire carrier rattle free.
Tire mount. The tire is tilted to move the center of gravity over the hitch. Also it just looks better. The 1/4" steel used in the tire mount will ensure a strong, long lasting mount. Offered in multiple 5, 6, or 8 lug patterns. The wheel studs and included lug nuts are M12x1.5.

I had mine for 2 yrs now with no issue and i love it (2018 honda pilot). When DirtCom first came out, I did wait about 9 months to get mine. They didn't have the HD version back then. My powder coating was good. No rust. Seems like the newer HD version was rushed hence the paint chip and rust. Sorry you have to deal with that. I would call them and send them photos and complain. Because $2k is a lot of money. I got mine for $1800(non HD). Their customer service has been good to me. My wedge broke and they sent me a new one. My front runner table bolt broke and they also sent me new hardware for free. Call them again. Good luck 👍🏽

Thanks man, I appreciate the input. I did call and emailed them the picture and videos i took, basically I was told I have to send it back on my dime, from east coast to west coast, that is a lot of work and money to get the bulky piece shipped. So I have been accepting the fact that their powder coating sucks, and been diligently spraying rust convertor and bedliner each year.

$2k for this is way too much for what it is. Seems like $3k and change for an expedition one dual swing is a much better deal since you’ll get a rear bumper as well. Makes me wanna build one myself if I have the spare time. It’s crazy how they charge so much for these things now.

    • @4WDisLife
      @4WDisLife  Před rokem +3

Yea. I was debating between this and the expedition one bumper. I mean it’s still 1k more and weighs another 100 more pounds. And it is irreversible modification compared to a tire carrier so I still ended up got the tire carrier.

The trail swing is total garbage. Stay away! If you are waiting on an order call and cancel. They are way behind and after 5 months I just received mine missing a bunch of pieces and all scratch ed up. When I emailed them with pictures of the damage, this was there response........
"Sorry to see your Trail Swing in that condition. We have had instances before that the Trail Swing has been mishandled by UPS. We have a few options for you to get this resolved.
(1)You can send a claim for the Trail Swing to UPS for replacement of the Trail Swing. That usually involves you making the claim and UPS requesting pictures and a possible inspection of the unit and the box that it was transported in the time that they take to do this may take weeks to months for the process to go through.
    (2) We could replace the Trail Swing if you pay shipping for the return of the unit and shipping for the replacement.
    (3) Based on what we are seeing the damage is mostly to parts that are replaceable and to the powder coating that is also fixable. There doesn't seem to be any damage to the functionality of the Trail Swing. We could ship you the replacement parts (including the 2 hole collar) and you could take it to a powder coater and have it repaired. at which point we will refund you $100 for the cost of the repair."
Let us know and thanks again

ahh, that seems to be similar with the response I got from them, basically I had to pay to ship it back across country, and that is not acceptable to me.

@@aronc221 I think I'm at 11 or 12 wks (almost 3 months). Advertised lead time was 10wks. I couldn't get a reply from seller till PayPal reminded me that the window to get refunded was almost up and I contacted them through PayPal. They asked for more (unspecified) time.
I lost all my cash waiting for rock sliders from a company that fell through. They also had a lead time + I was away for military training. Got back. No parts. Contacted seller - no answer (x3). PayPal said it was out of the 180 day window so sucks to suck. Bank said it's not fraud so sucks to suck.

Which daily driver (for a family of 4) do you feel is the most capable offroader? Tundra, Sequoia, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, Bronco, etc? All generations applicable, though cheaper is better.

    • @4WDisLife
