How did you find the traffic/driving over there? Do people drive like lunatics?

Not really, we rented a car in Quepos so I didn't have to deal with traffic in San Jose. Generally roads are in good condition, they have highways but a lot of the roads are steep and windy. If anything you tend to get stuck behind trucks and end up going slow.
