    It’s not johnson reaction time, it’s his acceleration that’s superior.

    No Johnson didn't false start they set the blocks at .110 reaction Johnson reacted at .129. I think he reacted at .135 at the 1988 Olympics and beat Lewis by more .13 to .10 here in Rome.
    Besides that I friggin hate Carl Lewis just was a cocky SOB that according to many of the other sprinters they hated.

      yeap, Ben's reacted to the gun in 0.129 seconds, Carl got off in 0.196, nearly seven hundredths difference, Ben won the race at the moment he was off the starting blocks, you can see Ben is nearly vertical at the moment he literally jumps out of the blocks...

    Ben Johnson oggi correrebbe in 9.50 con le piste attuali e con i farmaci di adesso. Ricordo bene quella gara, partenza regolare di Johnson che diede subito a Lewis un metro di distacco e poi ha mantenuto quel vantaggio fino alla fine, Carl Lewis aveva speso inutilmente troppe energie il giorno prima correndo la sua batteria in 10.05 rallentando vistosamente negli ultimi 40m , ed in semifinale correndo in 10.03 anche qui rallentando negli ultimi metri. Se Carl Lewis avesse risparmiato queste energie avrebbe potuto correre in finale in 9.80 ma questo non avvenne in quanto i suoi ultimi 40m non furono certo come quelli di Helsinki 83 dove Lewis sbaragliò tutti proprio nella seconda metà della gara correndo in modo assolutamente regale!

      How is it that Johnson would "smoke" Bolt in the 100 meter when Bolt ran under Johnson's best time several times? It's not how you run the race that counts it's who gets to the finish line in the least amount of time that counts and Bolt did that better than Johnson.

    • @phoebus
      @phoebus Před 3 lety

      @shane michaels You mean Johnson's steroid enhanced potential was never realized. His actual potential was just under 10 seconds. If you want to give him another tenth off for today's better tracks fine, but no way in hell would he have beaten Bolt in his prime or many other sprinters in their primes, there is a very long list of sprinters ahead of Johnson's best legal time. Also it was not up to Jamaica to test Bolt, he was under the same governing body as everybody else.

  • @bwingonwoger3354
    @bwingonwoger3354 Před 8 měsíci +1

    Highly likely they were all on steroids or HGH or some form. Back then, only urine samples were used in drug tests, blood only came into it post the Sydney Olympics in 2000. They could avoid detection pretty easily with medical assistance. Lewis lost the race at the start but Johnson went further away from him in the first 40, only to be pegged back fractionally in the last 30. One of the great 100’s of all time, irrespective of drugs. Both men in the top ten ever.

    • @mrkipling2201
      @mrkipling2201 Před 2 měsíci

      The only ones back then that weren’t on drugs were Linford Christie, Calvin Smith and Robson De Souza of Brazil. In my opinion anyway. Apparently Christie tested postive many years later, apart from drinking Ginseng tea in 1988 which caused a positive test, but the IOC confirmed it was due to the tea. Apart from that, he was clean throughout the best part of his career, including his peak years.

    Ben Johnson looked relatively slim here. Amazing how much bulk he built up over the year until that infamous race the next year. Sadly, I personally believe he didn’t need the steroids - his start and foot speed gave him an advantage. And I’ve never seen a start like that (and likely never will).

    Ben Johnson's starts are even today still the best but he runs out of gas faster than any of the other elite athletes thats why he was never a threat to cocky arrogant Lewis before he juiced up big time. I feel the predicament he was in and why he chose to take PED's. Imagine knowing that ur faster than anyone else for half of a race and the only thing keeping you from immortality and millions of dollars is just saying ok ill take it. This event also showed signs of things to come with three Jamaican born sprinters in the top four. PS: I believe Carl Lewis also cheated throughout his career its just that he was smart enough to surround himselt with management to help keep him from getting caught with PEDs. I remember seeing clips of him suddenly wearing braces during interviews leading up to the 88 Games which according to Don Catlin is one of the signs of someone taking HGH.

      Nonsense…BJ was probably the most talented sprinter in an era where PEDs were the norm. Like all high performance athletes he had to learn how to use his gift. The only advantage he gained from taking stanozolol was that he could withstand a higher volume of training…he still had the genetic potential to obtain the speed endurance that would outdo CL even without the drugs. CL was juicing and was simply beaten by the better all around talent.
