Jason first sits down and tells you the ins and outs of using High Speed Sync with your camera and explains how everything works. He then walks you through a shoot he did in Tasmania, Australia using High Speed Sync showing you the differences between when the flash fires vs. when it doesn't.
High Speed Sync and Hypersync are some of the most frequently asked questions Jason receives and is the reason why he created this video that we hope helps all of you out there.
We thank you for watching and invite you to stick around and watch a few more videos while you're here....
Thanks!

Jason this is unbelievably the best 20 min lesson I have ever got. invaluable !! I've been struggling to understand all this for so long. I love you !!! you're the best !!!!!!!
Thank you
I know I have said this before. The voice over is FANTASTIC, I cannot tell you how much I enjoy your videos especially with VO explaining your thought process.
"The People's Photographer!" That has to stick. And yes, you really are. Thank you for another excellent (and informative) video.
Fascinating stuff. I've been a pro for over forty years, but have never tried this sort of thing. Guess it's time to have a go!
Thank you!
This video is right on time! I was just researching how to use HSS and understanding it along with TTL , and BOOM here this video is. Thank you :)
Shots with and without the flash firing were excellent examples of what HS Sync does! Thanks!
You are welcome!
Clear simplified explanation about high speed sync and Hypersync flash photography great. Thanks Jason
Now this is a tutorial I actually enjoy watching. Thanks!
Thank you so much for what you do, This is the video I saw 2 years ago that made me rethink my lighting, both for the HS/HSS and lightening my gear in the field; I sold my old PCB Ultras and Bees and went with the Elinchrom Quadra's.....Peace.
Hi Jason
I really enjoy watching all your videos. You're awesome. Thank you so much for sharing
I learned more with your videos, than any webinar or other videos I've watched before!
So glad I found you!
An extremely comprehensive and direct video. Thank you Jason
Layman's terms on why use HSS:
1).It's a bright day
2).You need your model facing away from the sun (no squinting)
This creates unsightly shadows which we want to eliminate but we still want to retain a shallow depth of field
For a wide aperture we need a fast shutter speed due to the bright conditions
Using HSS we can overpower the shadows without losing shallow depth of field and without overexposing the natural light
I see an argument for a slightly expanded depth of field. He was keeping clouds in some focus sometimes and to me the entirety and lasting value of the shot is better this way. However no question about HSS in general. Its great.
I so appreciate this summary. I love shallow DOF but never understood it's relationship to HSS til now.
So why wouldnt u use 1/4000th instead to expose properly?
@@snipex111 Your subject would be too dark in most cases and you'd lose the detail that you'd have with
a flash ....
Come to Tasmania! Joking aside...I LOVE using HSS.. I think everybody should know and understand it if you're charging people money. The more you learn and the more you know the more value you have.. I tend to be a nerd when I love something. I fell in love with photography two years ago and I study every single day. Now after 2 years I'm outshining a lot of local photographers. And they're actually asking me questions on learning new tricks and techniques. Learning high-speed sync is just having another tool in your tool belt
Thank you times 3, i really understand how it works and when to use HSS. Great shoot loved it!!
Jason you are the best in the Industry. your teaching style is exceptionally high
Thank you!!!
Jason, you're timing is excellent. I've just got my e-mount HSS with Godox TT685 and X1Ts on A6000. Thanks for the hints sir.
Jason you are the bomb! I've learned so much from the two videos I've watced.
OMG, compared to the so-called tutorials offered by the 20 something photographers taking photos of friends this is epic! You not only showed what you do but explained why. Not sure the net is ready for that 😜
Thank you brother! That's why I say it pays to follow people who are actually photographers...:)
Wow, this is so informational. Thank you so much.
How in the world is this up here for free? Thanks so much Jason.
You are welcome brother...:)

Jason - another brilliant video from you. You are so down to earth and have a great way of explaining things. I know there are haters out there but please don't apologise for anything and keep doing what you do. Kind regards from the UK.
Thank you for the very informative video! Big fan and love your work!
Another great lesson. Anxious to experiment with this myself. Thanks!
Thank you thank you thank you for the best explanation and demonstration a high speed sync HSS. You're awesome Jason thank you for the great information it is truly making a difference
Jason, great job, love your explanations brother.
Simple and straight to the point, thanks Jason.
Thank you Jason, you are a big help always
Great video as always! Thank you!
Excellent and very informative tutorial video!!! Thanks a lot!!
Many thanks for the education - I have the Sony A6300 and the Godox V860II- Flash with Lithium battery and will now experiment to see if I can get anywhere near what you have shown
Hope to see more of this type of instructional video from you in the future!
Looking good Jason! And great video as always 👌
An excellent explanation of HSS. Thankyou. Much learnt.
Lots to take in here. I might need to watch this a few more times.
You're so accurate! Still actual..... amazing results!
Thanks Jason, amazing explanation!
Jason, you are such a practical and inspiring mentor!!! unlike many of others talking in alien language and shooting shitty photos...
Love all your work!!!
Thanks very much Jason, that really helps.
We're newbies! Not even native English speakers but everything is very clear and very helpful!
I was able to do hss with my t350 and a6000 but when I used my t350 as master and ad200 as slave I can't seem to make hss work. I hope somebody here could direct me on how to do it?
But Thank you Jason for all your free videos!
A+ Jason , Thank you so much.
Thank you, always a great video
I love the way you use artificial light. I didn't think you could shoot a portrait shot with a wide angle lens! Thanks for the high speed sync tutorial, you just gave me something else to think about now.
You're welcome!
another great video brother!!!! i really love the education videos!!!
this is amazing mate. all my questions answered
Wow!! Great shots!!
Hello from Tassie, enjoyed the video thanks. Hope you enjoyed your visit :)
Awesome video, thanks for the lesson!
I've started using the Godox AD600 and the Godox X1Ts on my Sony A7r2 for high speed sync. It works beautifually and I use it exclusively now.
Gary W what settings I have the same set up WOW congratulations
Great video Jason. Very helpful info. Im sure many didnt know that HYPERsync used 1:1 power. Great model. Loved the voiceover as well. Makes it easier to understand and concentrate on the info. Keep up the great work as always my friend.
@Stephen Soukup, hypersync DOES NOT require one to shoot 1:1 it only requires the power turned up enough to give a long flash duration. Broncolor doesn’t require full power for HS for example, you just have to basically use at least 50% of the flash power, which on location you’re often doing anyway.
Inferior lights usually have less options.
Other than that, overall Jason’s video is on the money.
thanks for another great video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jason my big respect for you, best of the best
this makes so much sense. thank you
Great video. Thanks Jason
thank u so much for sharing ur knowledge!!
Love, love love your videos Jason. Would love to go to one of your workshops. Come to Perth Australia. We have great beaches here :))
Thanks Jason. This vid is a Godsent. I'm a big fan of off-camera-flash and I'm using an A6000, and the info you shared here are priceless. Give me a holler whenever you're in Kuala Lumpur and I'll treat ya :) Thanks again..
Thank you for this video I cant wait to get mine
Hi Jason, outstanding as always. I've been researching this and in July will get the Flashpoint Explor 600 monolight, R2 trigger and a PCB Octobox. Just cannot wait!!! thanks for being such an inspiration.
Just a quick question. Plan on having the same setup, but was wondering how to adapt or configure the octobox to the bowens mount on the explor 600. Do you have any ideas?
Hi Justin, watch the Manny Ortiz videos on CZcams - he gives a very specific explanation :-)
Now I finally understand! Thank you!
Great content and info about high speed sync.
Awesome vid, well done
Thank you Jason great video
Thank you for this video. I need a flash now 😃
Just awesome Jason.
great work and hello from Tasmania!
Lovely video shoot.
Awesome, didn't get all of it at the first time, will have to see it again
Just getting into a flash photography after a half a year of shooting basically since I got my first Sony A7 series cameras. Thanks for the info Jason. Slowly ...but it's coming along. Cheers brother
Thank you for the explanations 👌
I LEARNED A LOT ,THANK U
Great explanation of HSS in layman's terms. Now I totally understand why a bunch of shots were so overexposed when trying to use my newly acquired f1.8 portrait lens at an outdoor wedding shoot. I will now try to choose a HSS flash for my Nikon D7500... time to research!
Jason, thanks for sharing your thoughts, and giving me, ..I take it personal, ..food for thought when it comes to using flashes and mono lights. After watching the wedding shoot you did on the beach using the Flashpoint rovelight, I decided to get one, and it works nicely. what I didn't realize was that I needed to buy the specific triggers to make it happen. ..I couldn't truly achieve the hss with the triggers it came with. I am truly amazed at how beautiful your pictures come out. ..and I'm determined to make it happen for myself. thanks man for taking the time to make these videos. if you ever come down to Florida, let me know.
I really enjoy your videos. I am working to get better with my Flashpoint Zoom R2 TTL Lithium Ion and use it with other speedlights and the R2 Transmitters and receivers. I just wanted to tell you your videos are very appreciated.
excellent don't wanna miss the JL education 👌
You photos are so awesome you inspired me to want to really do something with photography
your the best jason, thanks a lot
Enjoy your videos! It was great learning something very beneficial :)
it's more fun watching you live but this video is as close as I can get ;)
Jason, thanks very much :-)
Awesome stuff Jason!
Thank you! great content!
Thanks for another great video. I have to go and make some hss shots but with speedlights, because I do not have monolight and am just an enthusiast photographer so will not likely be buying one (or more). I just might be renting them though just to try some things out. Thanks again voor the great videos and for all the info. Keep them coming. :-)
Great. Great video!
very good jason...
No single flash video has made me want to learn this more... I have a flash, trigger arrives tomorrow, but my flash isn't HSS, which makes me mad, makes me wish I'd ordered one with HSS to start because I know I want THOSE results. Thanks for your videos!
Great video Jason.
Thank you Jason!
Bro I respect you so much.
Love your work
I use a Speedlight with external battery pack for mobile outdoor fill. Works well enough and recycles fast enough.
Olá
Qual modelo você usa?
Hss is ment for high shutter speed, like you want to shoot wide open 1.8 and also want to exposed for both the sky and model.
Thanks, Jason! Really love your work. Will you be putting the cave shoot back up? I missed that one.
Jason thank you so much I've been struggling trying to get really good high-speed sync with my SonyA6300 and step up my outdoor photography, this helped me out a lot. With the Pixel King can I attach the receiver to any flash and shoot HSS? Provided the flash allows it? (I know about the battery drain and recycle time, just asking). I was gonna get the godox/bolt option, is that any good?
I just bought the Godox system. It's been friggin' awesome so far. I think it's exactly the same as the Flashpoint stuff from Adorama.
I know this was done a while ago but I'm just now viewing this video. With the profoto would I be right in saying the HSS function works but not the TTL when using those pixel king triggers, or do you retain all the functions?
thanks dude, hope you visit australia again so i could attend your workshop
Great video!
wow ur a legend bro I actually lern stuff from u cause I live in Sri Lanka and we don't have many good teachers and I follow ur work and I'm working on moving from Canon to a Sony thanks bro
Thank you!!
I love my Rovelight. You're absolutely right about recycle times, but at a 1/5 of the cost of a B1, I'll put up with a little lag time. I've got four of them and great modifiers all for the cost of one B1. Thanks for the video Jason, you're a standup guy. Do you meter at all or are you just checking your screen to see the results.
Thanks for all the great info Jason.
You're welcome brother!
Jason Lanier I put photo groups together where I live in Des Moines Iowa. About 60-70 people show up to learn how to shoot sunsets and cityscapes but 95% percent of what I know a of lighting subjects comes form watching so many of your videos much more than once. Right now I'm working on a GoFundMe me project to raise money to buy gear for one of the kids who shows up with a really old Nikon camera. Oh just to be clear, I'm not asking for anything but your videos have me just about convinced to scrap the D810 plan for him and get him an a7r2. Heck I might even go that route myself because I keep watching your videos.
