    I understand there was a route change in recent years that added elevation gain to the route. Having said that, while it might not be pancake flat, I'd still say it could definitely be described as flat.
    That is a brilliant time! I was shocked to see that considering the narrative. To do 2 sub 3 hour marathons in consecutive weeks is incredible. Well done.

    • @FilmMyRun

      Thank you! Yes I was unaware of the route change prior to making the video so that's interesting to note. I was expecting almost pancake flat. Very happy with two sub threes so close together. Will definitely now target 2:50 next year because I think I have a chance.

    A really important video Stephen. You took a calculated risk and got away with it but then you're a very experienced runner. Running 26.2 without water or nutrition is bordering dangerous for 99% of us. Two of my marathons where I didn't get the nutrition right have ended up with me needing medical help, scary at the time! Congrats on your time, definitely hard earned.

    • @FilmMyRun
      @FilmMyRun  Před rokem

      Thanks John. Yes nutrition is a big subject and a very controversial one. What did you take in those marathons and what happened? For me I feel it's generally safer to put less sugary crap in my body and let my body use its natural fat as a fuel source. So it's not like I don't have any fuel source at all, it's just that I'm using one that doesn't require me to eat very much. I'd be really really sick if I started consuming the amount of gels I see some runners taking. But it is of course, a case of what works for one will not necessarily work for someone else!! Appreciate your input John, thanks.

    Just to make a correction from the start of this video. The very first Manchester Marathon was in 1908. Manc2023 was my first ever marathon and I accidentally did similar to you (albeit at a slower pace!). I felt good at the start, and ran the first half with -1:00/km my goal pace. I dialled it back from 21-31, slower again 31-35, then the cramps set in and I had to do 1km run / 250m walk for the remaining 7km ... so bit of a disaster!
    And yes, Manchester isn't flat!!

    A gamble is ok but it's got to be a calculated gamble, rather than reckless. Slowing down factionally rather than intense sprint would've certainly helped especially as you reach the sneaky hills at mile 16, but you know that already. Sorry for stating the obvious again but you might need to look at mid-race fuelling strategy. I've run marathons without water on a few occasions but need to have gels or something else in my stomach during the race. We're all different of course.

      Seriously considering Boston or Newport for a fast run next year. Thank you so much for subscribing! There's usually plenty of stupidity on this channel!

      Oh no! I'm so sorry I missed you. Yea, 6 miles in is a bit early for me to be having anything to be honest. Unless it's a hot day, I won't usually even have water until after 10 miles.

    Wow 2 fast marathons that close together. You must be fit.

      Probably the fittest I've been for 3 years. But it's all going down the pan now as I'm back at the ultras again for the rest of the summer.

    A good experiment. Thought you were going to fall to bits. But you faded. Is that down to your experience as others blew on the day.

    • @FilmMyRun
      @FilmMyRun  Před rokem +1

      I guess it's just about how trained up you are for the speed you're going. I think on a good day I'm not far off 2:50 so rather than completely fall to pieces I did just gradually fade.....albeit fairly quickly!! If I'd started at 2:45 pace I most certainly would have completely fallen apart! Well done you for calling it when you did. Unlucky but when it's not your day, scratch it and come back stronger next time.

    I did my first half marathon the other day, and ran too fast. But I managed to get under 2 hours because of my stupid determination. I was in a lot of pain and exhausted for the last 5k.

    Can’t get my head around your thought process for that first half , all things considered- just daft. Great effort though, well done

    • @FilmMyRun
      @FilmMyRun  Před rokem

      Haha, daft is an understatement! But I can take you through my exact thought process. Paris was my A race and it was very successful. So Manchester wasn't important. I could do what I wanted with it. I genuinely think I can do 2:50. Ok, I'm probably not in shape for 2:50 right now, but let's just give it a go and see what happens. If it doesn't work out, what have I lost? I would never use this strategy deliberately in a proper A race.

      I realise this is a bit of a late reply, but it's definitely made me think that I might have a chance at 2:50 if I actually target it and train properly for it. Let's see if I can put a training block together next year for London.

      @@FilmMyRun ah you are doing London this time. Don't think GFA places can be applied for yet. Looks like the qualifying period ends end Sept. I have that option too. 2:50 not out of the question for you for sure. When I was last in sort of shape I was around 35 for 10K, sub 80 for HM which for me personally seem now somewhat out of reach but maybe still in my head :) Perhaps we should link up for some training in the winter well as well as Zwift of course.

    • @FilmMyRun
      @FilmMyRun  Před rokem +1

      Yes of course, but the race 2 weeks before was my A race. This was just a bit of fun. There’s no way I’d have run like this if it was a proper attempt.
