Immune System, Part 1: Crash Course Anatomy & Physiology #45

  • Our final episodes of Anatomy & Physiology explore the way your body keeps all that complex, intricate stuff alive and healthy -- your immune system. The immune system’s responses begin with physical barriers like skin and mucous membranes, and when they’re not enough, there are phagocytes -- the neutrophils and macrophages. It also features the awesomely named natural killer cells and the inflammatory response, and we'll explain how all of these elements work together to save the day if you happen to slip on a banana peel.

If phagocytes can swallow invaders, like bacteria and viruses, then how can anyone be sure that vaccines that are made of inactive viruses really work? Inactive viruses do not reproduce, and do not cause infection, vaccines with weaken viruses may replicate, but also do not cause infection. Does the immune system really need to produce antibodies, for viruses that do not cause infection?

Final Fantasy came out before pokemon did, Final Fantasy was released in 1987 and Pokemon came out in 1996. And I understood the Fire Blast Pokemon reference but the fight was in the style of Final Fantasy. I've been a video game geek for 31 years, you don't have to question my knowledge.

Megan Rivera The health bars and text box at the bottom are pretty much perfect matches for Pokemon. Really, the only difference between this and Pokemon is that Pokemon text boxes would be on bottom right for left and top left for right.

Amazing job again guys! Just wanted to add that fever also makes it harder for the invading bacteria to replicate as our usual body temperature is their optimum and a lot of bacteria are rather sensitive to temperature changes (at least that's what I learned in my immunology lectures)
