As a public high school band director and guitar teacher, this is now going to be my go-to video for CAGE system with my students. Keeping it under 10mins without sacrificing content is a GREAT perk of this video. Thanks for putting it together.

I have to echo the previous positive comments. This is the best CAGED explanation I have ever seen. The 'front-to-back' linking is brilliant!. I have been playing guitar off and on for 40+ years and until now I didn't understand or realize that the caged chords are actually related in C-A-G-E-D order. I thought CAGED was just a convenient mnemonic device. Mind blown. Good work!

I kept seeing this caged system crop up, and everybody who tried to explain it made absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. However, I have watched this video and have watched one of your earlier videos, and in less than an hour, I absolutely understand how the caged system works. Funny, I now realize this information is also in a 1977 book I have at home called The Joe Pass Guitar Method. It's basically the same thing, except that the "CAGED" system (at least in this video) omits the intermediate shape between the E and D shapes. I'm talking about the first inversion of the C shape. But then again, it may not be as useful as the others. Anyway, it's good to have a concise video presentation of these shapes, thank you!

    Hi,
It would be nice to see a video on changing those 5 CAGED shapes to their extensions.
    * They also work great for the Pentatonic Scales.
    * I like to show that each CAGED shape has a Pentatonic, and within that a Major & Minor CAGED shape.
I always check out how others explain things teaching, and then try to adopt or come up with another way of doing it.

I've been playing guitar for almost 5 decades. I would never finger most of those chords in that fashion. It makes more sense to me to just learn those major chords with the 6th, 5th and 4th string roots and then the major triad with the first 3 strings or what she calls the D shape with the 2nd string as the root. The CAGE system to me seems like a solution in search of a problem
