+ninjaa54 Here's some more food for thought Motorized Patriot quotes are faction specific. Now while not particularly frightening in of itself, it points to two possibilities. 1. The man who records the voice for the Motorized Patriots has defected to make Vox quotes along with his original Founder ones, or the far more terrifying possibility 2. Motorized Patriots have gained some kind of sentience and rebelled against The Founders themselves. The fact these machines are basically clockwork machine gun toting caricatures of presidents originally envisioned as a museum attraction makes this disturbing thought all the worse.
This enemy scares me. I was even afraid of the friendly ones you get from tears. And I was worried that statue of Comstock in the First Lady would attack me. Thank god it didn't. But at least when you get its gun, you suddenly turn into the Heavy from Team Fortress 2.
I am very curious, if they made a Motorized Patriot for every president, how would they all look. Also, imagine an Obama Motorized Patriot that says stuff like "Change" and "Yes we can" before it open fires on you
avirx8 On the contrary, there are a lot of anachronistic things you see throughout the game thanks to Elizabeth's tears, just to name a few off the top of my head A phonograph playing a ragtime-waltz version of Tears For Fears' 1985 song, Everybody Wants to Rule the World. A barbershop quartet singing the 1966 The Beach Boys song God Only Knows At Battleship Bay, you can hear a carnival version of Cyndi Lauper's 1983 Girls Just Want to Have Fun being played. Rocket-propelled grenades weren't introduced until World War II.
It would fight for the Founders and have phrases like "Make Columbia great again!", "Your fired!", and "Build that wall". Upon your death: "The wall just got 10 feet higher!"
@@cfcblue8 "I have the biggest gatling gun. It's true. It's true. I killed all the heathens. BUT THE FALSE PROPHET WON'T REPORT IT FOLKS, NO THEY WON'T."
I just fell in love with patriots. I doubted if I ever liked Infinite (the game looked too... bright after bioshock 1&2), but when I saw Washington with a gatling gun my heart melted 😍
ChickenRamen here's another twist for you. Motorized Patriot quotes are faction specific. They make him sound great, but the video footage the AI is basically ignoring him and standing still.. Where's the unrelenting terminator that doesn't stop? Where's the fact that you can't get away from this guy? Fighting him kind of looks like a choice that you can simply opt not to bother with.
"You can't reason with him." Just like a terminator... a terminator with George Washington's face... that's twisted and awesome at the same time XD. Love this enemy.
Hold up, I just noticed! The Patriot depicted in this video has american flags while the fina one in the game has the Colombian flags instead. However opening a tear to bring out a patriot, you can clearly see that the one from the tear still had american flags! Them little details are quite clever.
Handyman is by far one of the hardest enemies in the game, so many times I have died to them simply because I've run out of ammo and salts before they die...
I'm just gonna put this out there and see if other people feel the same... When Elizabeth brings in that turret, and the Patriot is sitting there, winding the crank on his Peppermill (not an innuendo), and he's STILL looking at the player, THAT IS TERRIFYING.
oh, that's awesome to hear, and I hope Infinite is going to be worth and wait and hopefully surpass bioshock or atleast be just as good as bioshock 1! :P
I think it was only the first one that seemed weak to me. Now when I see a patriot, they kill me twice before I can drop one. Even the freaking Handyman's more forgiving than these mechs.
I agree. The patriot is slower and somewhat easy to predict. The trick is just getting to a back which he rarely ever wants to expose - and for good reason, of course. The handyman though, as you said... much faster. You let him out of your sight for just a few seconds and before you know it, he's behind you charging. His speed also makes his heart very difficult to aim at. Of course in my experience, the patriot has a knack for somehow managing to sneak up on you, resulting in shat pants.
I like their creativity with the characters and story. All the Bioshock games are unique. I don't think anyone else can make a game that takes place underwater as great a Bioshock. I can't wait to see how this one will be when it takes place in the sky.
Handymen are adaptive. If they can't punch you, they'll throw lightning balls at you. There was one that kept chucking bodies at me at one point. If there are no bodies to throw, they hop after you. So essentially they're a strange meld of Bouncer (hip ram attack), Rosie (sniping at you with bolts and bodies) and probably a Rumbler (demolish everything around them).
You know, making games isn't just about making an interactive story/adventure, it is even about making it fun for the players, making sure there isn't much glitches in the game's program, and/or trying to do it all with out making the game overpowered (As in making the program that the game is running on crashing)...
I'm not surprised they are happy, considering how much work goes into making these enemies. You first need the concept, usually dozens of concepts are submitted and scrapped before one is picked. Then you have to make a model of that concept. Then you have to program it and ensure how it will interact with the player and environment are what they want. All the while making sure the character fits in a somewhat stringent set of guidelines of what is acceptable. Then there's debugging, ugh...
yeah, but we don't know that yet, for all we know Columbia crashes into the Atlantic Ocean, and Andrew Ryan discovers it later and decides to build over it.
I think the Motorized Patriot would've been a lot more frightful if they made that sort of clunky, mechanical vocal noise in the final cut of the game.
Patriots also are hilariously easy to perma stun with electricity based attacks. Basically went through the game on hard by using Charge -> Melee spam with electric punch for Patriots while using them as shields. Or if there's a larger group + multiple Patriots, lightning traps & shotgun/RPG spam. And aye, Handymen are pretty cool.
Oh my goodness, it reminds me soo much of Child of Karras from Thief 2, also very dreadful enemy: "When I was very young, Karras took me away from the foundry mother and said, 'thou art the child of my endeavours. Follow me and thou shalt... inherit the Earth...'
Keep saying that, when the handyman can simply pulverize these guys to a bucket of bolts, but I can definitely see how you would feel about walking turrets that talk in a mechanical voice.
The Big Daddies where split between Handymen and Songbird. Songbird mainly for design (the behavior is nothing like a Big Daddy from Rapture. The Little Sisters control the Big Dad, not the other way around.) The Handymen are attack wise and probably behavior more like a Big Daddy, specifically Alpha Series. Plus you can think of their hearts as like a porthole of a Big Daddy.
And people really love a game when there are lots of options in it that you can enhance and that kind of stuff. Also, there is romance in BIOSHOCK INFINITE, another thing that could lots of people love and that could hardly fit into such a violent game like this...
...And they would confirm it's set in a different universe...in a more creative way since I know Rapture is going to be appear in this game as a alternative universe that Elizabeth would open a tear to like she did with the 1980s...that's what Ken Levine probably actually meant.
No it´s just that I saw the 15 minutes gameplay and it looked like it would be a burst weapon. I have nothing against that it is full auto. Bioshock Infinite is my most anticipated game of all time. I have been waiting for this game since the launch of Bioshock 1 :D
If more developers were like Ken Levine we would have far more great games. What a wonderful enemy idea and world though i think i prefer the drawing version of Washingtons' head at 1:15
Yeah, but you got to look at it through this perspective, even though they are both two different cities, they both have to be connected one way or another. Columbia is Rapture's predecessor, so that means Rapture was possibly built on Columbia's fundamentals like songbird = big daddy, vigors and nostrums = plasmids and tonics, and boys of silence = security cameras. Since Columbia was built before Rapture, then that has to mean Columbia's innovations were leaked to Mr. Ryan or he discovered it!
Best fight ever (true story, happened last night): 2 firemen and a horde of Vox. Tesla coil surrounded by Shock Jockey crystals. Half the Vox where vaporized instantly by the Tesla/ Jockey. If you listen all the way until the end they emphasize that this heavy hitter is exactly what he looks like, a freaking robot with a minigun. Besides from shooting back at you there isn't much they can do, they even go as far as to say that this heavy hitter isn't a "Swiss army knife". Look at the other heavy hitters and you will see that this isn't the only enemy type you will encounter and others require different means and methods of strategy. This looks exactly like bioshock to me.
Bioshock has never been about the combat though, It's more about why you're fighting and what you're fighting. It's hard to get a feel for a game like bioshock by watching a small combat scene.
Well, i've been playing this game and i must say they're not as powerful as i initially thought. they are very resilient and shoot like crazy, but the A.I. is lacking sometimes. The boys of silence though, are absolutely terrifying. They have a bunch of crazy people around them wich dont attack at first, but when the boy sees you he merges with all of them, and they all come charging towards you at once, swarming like some crazy zombies.
No, they are hitters. Levine hinted that there where more than the "big 4" that where going to be kept hidden until closer to the launch of the game itself.
And about BioShock Infinite; there is romance, more comedy, and more stuff you can do then in the other BioShock series. And also, maybe they wanted to change it, you never know...
The motorized Patriot scared the Hell out of me, I even had a dream about him after I played the game for the first time lol

0:45 "blood is the price of liberty"
I keep hearing it as "Bread is the price of liberty."
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson
That voice makes it even creepier
Absolutely FUCKING HORRIFYING
Wish it sounded like that in the game.
Loved having this guy on my side, though.
I thought it was really creepy how the patriot was cranking the mini gun so fast while shooting at the turret all while looking at Booker.
I was just thinking that. Really eerie.
I sometimes come back to this video just to watch that clip
"The lord judges! I act!"

I'll never look at museum exhibits the same again...
Even though the game as a whole didn't exactly get the creeper image it went for, it was still quite good to boot.

"You can't reason with this enemy" lol.!!! You can't reason with ANY of the enemies.....
I love the Patriot. Heavy gunners that beast their way at you and still maintain that creepy aura about them. Brilliant enemies in every aspect.
Motorised patriot my favourite character
The animatronics at FNAF got nothing on this.
I honestly wish the devs made the original beta game happen BUT the Patriot is something i’m glad they created.

And they actually can ;-)
It's like he's thinking "That's right I haven't forgotten about you, once I'm done here I'm coming for YOU next!!!"
Okay. That disturbingly fast, mechanical, winding arm motion that f**ker makes to operate the gatling gun will haunt my nightmares.

Yes he was hired during 2011 or 2012
Its just one of those little quirks that makes it an even more terrifying enemy. Goes to show how much Irrational cares about its games

Freaking sucks that the Patriots don't say "Blood is the Price of Liberty".
Or else they say it, but it's not in the audio files.
@philipbabb, it's the symbolism behind the enemy that makes him imaginative, not the fact that he's a big robot w/ a gun

Robo-Washington , this game is getting better the more i hear about it
Red, as in "The blood of those who would threaten our liberty," I imagine.

The one following me was a tear ally. I'm guessing a mix of spam RPG-ing and upgrades turned Mr. Washington into scrap in only a few seconds.
Scout: Pop quiz. Who will win in a fight; the freakin Heavy, or the the freakin hard headed president?
Boys of Silence definitely, because there is some mystery surrounding them. But with these guys all you need to know is that they are robots.
