      A big misconception is that it's a show about snobbery. Its really about snobs unable to interact with the real world, which adds a layer of intellect to the writing. Just awesome.

    • @darcgibson5099
      @darcgibson5099 Před 3 lety +5

      @@lewisfraser4153 very good point, some shows tried to copy the snobbery in Frasier but they missed that subtle point and so they ended up just being actually snobbish. Frasier is a show about a snob but it’s never snobbish itself, quite the opposite you could say, it lampoons the snobbery of Frasier and Niles. Then you look at a show like Big Bang Theory that tries to imitate that with that Sheldon character, but the show doesn’t really lampoon his snobbery, it actually indulges in it itself, when Sheldon is being a weird condescending asshole and mocking someone’s intelligence or whatever, he’s speaking for the show/writers and the target audience who are actually all being snobs.

    This scene got to me the first time it aired, and now and again I remember it and the effect is the same. There's something really bittersweet in Frasier's tearful admission, "I made our father cry!" said with such regret and shame. It's funny yet humbling watching the two grown, intellectual sons reduced to children in seconds by seeing their older father crying.
    It's easily my favorite scene from this show, and one of my favorite moments of television.

    This episode is some of the most heart rending comedy I've ever seen. This scene hits much harder after seeing the pride on Martin's face when he presents the painting to Frasier. John Mahoney did such amazing work throughout this series and this episode stands out to me as the epitome of everything great about the character of Martin Crane. He played the part with this unique amalgam of fatherly warmth and childlike exuberance that strikes a cord within me unlike anyone else. He is sorely missed.
