  • For hundreds of thousands of years, the mothers of our species, homo sapiens, gave birth to more boys than girls. We believe this was because the males of our species tended to be killed earlier, before adulthood and reproduction, mostly by accidents, while hunting, in fights with males of a rival race, and of course by the stupid things that little boys are more prone to do. than the little girls. Nature therefore made sure that more boys were born, so that when the breeding season arrived the number of girls and boys would be the same.
In recent decades, however, this seems to be changing. It has been observed that the tide has tilted, and more girls than boys are being born at this time. The scientific world has been very concerned with this change that has happened recently and had tried to find the causes. One of the reasons this happens, which is probably the most important, is that when the fetus is conceived, women today weigh more than they did a few hundred years ago.
Studies have shown that when a male fetus is conceived, the chance of a successful pregnancy is lower because male fetuses are more vulnerable than female fetuses to factors such as inflammation, poor nutrition and increased weight. This has resulted in male fetuses being about the same as females during conception, but the probability of a male pregnancy being terminated prematurely is greater. The end result is that more healthy girls are born than boys, when the weight of the future mother's is increased during conception and the first weeks of pregnancy. This is, at least in part, because increased weight leads to inflammation, intrauterine malnutrition, and other pregnancy difficulties.
In the study I'm presenting today, researchers tried to see how likely it is that an overweight woman would give birth to a baby boy compared to a normal weight woman. The researchers concluded that an overweight woman has up to a 15% lower chance of giving birth to a baby boy than a normal-weight woman.
If you've made it this far, it means pregnancy-related topics are of interest to you. I previously posted a video, which I am very proud of, about what a woman can do during pregnancy to increase the likelihood that the unborn child will be smarter. It's now on my right and I think it's worth a look. I remind you that by pressing the like button and sharing the video with people who will find it interesting, you help me a lot. Thank you very much.
