    I like the way you showed us how to cut out the kerf long enough to provide space for the riving knife (then sealed the end). All the other tutorials show cranking the blade up to cut through, but you have to remove the riving knife.

    Very good tutorial. Thanks. I also have DeWalt 7485. I had a little piece of aluminum (I was cutting aluminum) fall down into the blade well the other day and shoot out like a piece of shrapnel. Fortunately I was off to the side and it missed me. I heard it hit the ceiling and wall, and fall down behind the bench. Anyway, it got me to thinking about saw inserts. Seriously.

    Very good video brother. But I must say I CRINGED when you did the crosscut against the Fence. That just asking to get Mangled. Cheers.

      It’s a lesson I’ve learned the hard way, through a series of comments ripping me apart haha 😂

    After much research and deliberation, I'm about to push the buy button on this saw, I've been watching tons of videos on the various things that need doing to get this saw to sing, the zero clearance obv being one of them. Wouldn't you think Dewalt would deal with this or at the very least offer a zero option plate? Anyway, I've also come across a ton of safety videos and I just wanted to pass forward to you, I saw one saying it was a no no to use the fence as a guide like you did at the end and that the cross sled is the better way. I'm not being one of them know it alls, quite the contrary, just passing info on that I've seen else where so please don't take this the wrong way. Cheers, Mick

      @@sumeraybuilds at 2:10 I noticed the ruler measure looks like it’s in metric, is that correct? I think every video I’ve seen it in imperial, maybe imperial is for the US version

    Can you raise the blade to its full height with the riving knife in. I can only manage to get it half way before the back of the riving knife pushes the insert out. I’m probably missing something obvious. Any ideas?

    • @sumeraybuilds
      @sumeraybuilds  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes I can, you will need to make sure you’ve left enough gap to accommodate the riving knife. The little plug at the end of the slit might need to be cut out and redone so there’s enough room for it

      Thanks for the reply. Made one without riving knife. Cut slot by raising blade through insert. It still wants to force out insert when blade height goes past 3/4 of its height. 7485 like yours. 🫤

      I worked my way up to the largest bit I had which was 32mm.

      Oh I see what you mean, I believe that was an 8mm bit. I just made sure to measure the width of the inserts on the DeWalt plate and made sure they matched.

    • @kendavidson6755
      @kendavidson6755 Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you for your reply I use a 6 mm bit and it was fine I had a problem raising the blade fully because of the socket for the riving knife knife was much thicker than the kerf
      I split the small piece of wood at the riving knife end by trying to lift the blade fully. I drilled a 6mm hole and inserted a glued dowel which has increased the strength
      I realised that I would not need to raise the blade fully to cut thin strips
      Unless you have any suggestion about widening the kerf gap at the riving knife end?
      Thanks again for your excellent video
