In this episode of “What Happens If” I’m trying out something a little bit different. Hope you loyal viewers can relax, plop down on something comfortable because this is going to be one of the longest video I’ve done in recent times. Okay now that the PSA is out of the way, in today’s episode we watch the tragic boat ride to Canada with our intrepid threesome of Luther, Kara & Alice.
PS. It’s not going to end well for 2/3rds of them. For those who are still reading this description, I’d love to play a game of “Guess Who Lives” with you all. Detroit: Become Human is an adventure game developed by Quantic Dream and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4, released worldwide on 25 May 2018. The plot revolves around three androids: Kara, who escapes the factory she was made in to explore her newfound sentience; Connor, whose job it is to hunt down deviant androids; and Markus, who devotes himself to releasing the androids from servitude. They may survive or perish depending on dialogue choices that shape the story as customized by the player. Story Chapters include: The Hostage, Opening, Shades of Color, A New Home, The Painter, Partners, Stormy Night and more! Characters include: Kara a newly created housekeeper android who develops artificial consciousness. I think they do that so you can’t the get the PS4 trophy “SURVIVORS”. It’s a really hard trophy to obtain, it where you gotta keep 10 people alive (Connor, Hank, Markus, Simon, North, Josh, Kara, Alice, Luther and I think Jerry?). That’s why if you sacrifice/kill anyone you won’t get the trophy. It’s a gr8 achievement to get tho

I kept everybody alive everybody even side characters perfect ending the achievement and platinum. Any guesses as to how many replays it took? I lost count that's how many. I did get one choice in the flow chart that zero percent of people got and I laughed my ass off cuz Connor had the most befuddled baffled what the hell stutter and expression on his face. I love detroit and I didn't get Luther killed once in any play try.

If you guys pay close attention, the mom of that family was on of the members of the anti-android group that can be seen in the first Markus mission. I played the peaceful approach which meant they left for Canada once they realized their hate group was morally wrong and ultimately failed. I don't regret stealing the tickets.

If you want Luther to live Markus has to do a peaceful demonstration, you must rescue Luther & Jerry when they are held at gunpoint by guards, take the risky path (if you take the safer route you will miss the bus and therefore be forced to take the boat), keep the tickets the family drops (if you give them back you have to take the boat) and sacrifice no one at the border. If Markus led a peaceful demonstration the guard will have pity on you and let y'all through. If Markus did not lead a peaceful demonstration you will have to sacrifice either Kara, Luther or Jerry.

Everyone mentions how sad it is when Luther dies. But I got here and Luther was already dead (killed in police search), so in this scene Alice got shot and Kara made it to Canada holding her dying body. She gives her tearful goodbye, says “I love you”, and shuts down. You have the option, in this bleak moment, to give up or carry on. I carried on, and the police pick Kara up to take her to Canada. This scene legit made me cry... it was the saddest thing I’d ever seen. And I hadn’t seen the good endings yet!
This game has some of the best, diverse, and emotional storytelling I’ve ever seen.

In my playthrough luther got killed in that boat and alice got shot, kara made it to canada holding alice and before she died she said "i love you mom"

I’m pretty sure that was Rose in the car coming to pick her up...why would it be the police? In the distance, you can see its not shaped as any police car, it’s shaped like a normal car, Rose’s car :D.

@@nebul1269 I definitely noticed the hints throughout the game especially when Kara picks up that magazine at the beginning of the game and it wouldn't show us what was on it. I wanted to believe an android was playing mother for a human girl and that Alice would be the bridge between the two people. It also really made the relationship between the 2 of them that more special with the player because it was unique and Alice would grow up not having that hatred that the other humans have for androids. I'm honestly more disappointed than Kara is if you choose to be distant after learning the truth about Alice.

I'm kinda pissed that so many of the side characters have so much undiscovered potential. I need a sequel or a big ass DLC where Luther, Ralph (especially Ralph and Luther tbh), Jerrys, Simon, Josh, Lucy, the "monster" Androids, characters like that would get more done with them. Many of the Androids just don't get justice with the story and it saddens me, I want to know more about them and see them grow (especially Ralph, I want to see him learn to trust again #wouldtapdatass)
What? No way, Connor's the best character by far. He's adorable and innocent, but he's also a badass when he has to be and he cares so much more than he'll ever admit. Luther is just something the developers put into the game so there could be a sort of "Father figure" for Alice. He is nowhere near as good a character as Connor. But that's just my opinion.

I'm not mad, just perplexed that Luther couldn't make it out alive on the boat. Even at the Recall Center there's a way to save everyone, although now that I think about it you DO have to sacrifice someone in order to escape. XD
I'm slightly annoyed that there's no way to avoid the boat. I mean yeah they're there but given how many choices this game has, why aren't there more here

I just choose to let kara give up and shut down. together forever even in death. just doesn't felt right for kara to walk away. for alice I can understand since she's still a child but fuck I don't want kara to just be a memory in her life. Haven't played the game, seen a bit on CZcams. Is Alice not really older than Kara, since Kara starts the game after having been wiped? Seems like Alice is a really crafty and manipulative android, willing to let others sacrifice themselves for her survival.

Seeing the first death in this video reminded me of the reveal that Alice is an android. And that really got me thinking about the whole moral of the game. Alice is programmed, designed, to emulate a child, and does just that through out the entire game. Luther was designed to be a laborer, a servant, a guardian, and does that throughout the entire game. Kara, is designed to be a caretaker, popular among families with children. Hell, even Marcus is meant to be caring, and empathetic. None of the androids in the game are truly free. They only attain an illusion of freedom. They all perform the tasks that they were designed to do.
Then how come they still care, have human emotions, are alive and still cry? Luther still went against his master, Kara could kill Todd, and her and Alice ran away.
@@monsterhanna6691 Are you familiar with the ghost in the machine? It's the idea that a set of rules can create unexpected, divergent behavior. For example, Kara seeing Alice in an abusive home creates a conflict where she can either let herself be destroyed, or fight back and protect Alice. Luther gets a pass in my mind though because he was modified, but even Connor has the same dilemma, with both options fulfilling his purpose to protect.
I've found its just easier to let them die early so you don't get so emotionally invested in these characters lol

I started crying when Alice and Kara told each other they loved each other, but only partly because of them. The saddest part to me was that no one told Luther they loved him, or held his hand or anything... That broke my heart.

I thought that was odd too. Plus there was a way to protect Alice from the cold by shutting off her temperature sensing regulator during the beginning of the Battle for Detroit chapter.

A lot of electronics stop working in the cold if they were made for warmer conditions. If you watch robot wars you’ll notice a lot of robots from warmer countries malfunction in the cold

So at the part for me I tried to protect Alice, then I died and Luther died and I was like

And ‘exited to main menu’ and redid the chapter so I ended up keeping the tickets for myself
I did the exact same! I was so mad that there was no way to keep them alive in this scenario because when I kept the tickets I felt so bad for the family. :/

That's what's great about the game. As explained by Jack, humanity and androids seem to have switched wherein the androids are the ones more alive and the humans are cold and desensitized.

What boat?? I got platinum in this game and have never seen this scene or had the option to be on these boats. This game continues to amaze me with its possibilities.
Yup, that route only opens up if you give the ticket back to the couple at the bus station. If you don't, and you walk to the same area that would have opened up when you gave the ticket back it will be hard-locked by an invisible warning wall of text saying you can't move beyond this point.

There's an ending where Alice and Kara survive the boat trip if you get Kara to push the boat fast enough, but I don't think Luther survives this one

If Luther is already dead, taking the boat is fine. Just choose "Plunge".

My Alice get shot on that boat and when I reached the shore she died. But before that she said to Kara: "I love you, mom." I never cried so hard like that time.. :D

This comment is 2 years old but... Luther gets shot at Jericho so he has a weak spot on his leg where the water seeps into his body quicker than the other two, meaning that he freezes to death even when Kara and Alice survive

bottom line - you (or an android) will freeze much MUCH faster in cold water than in cold air because water will transfer heat away from you better than air. in conclusion, the point at which android's biocomponents fail was designed to survive basic cold winters, but not frigid freezing water - which makes sense from a design point of view.

This story line way is really good, because it can teach that sometimes for a better ending you need to choose a tough choices. In Kara's story, if you want to get a better ending, you need to keep the bus ticket that other family has lost.
