Thank you for this video. In the middle of doing this now and got up to the jet removal portion but am waiting for son to come home so he can see the process, too.
I was able to use a stubby flathead screwdriver for all four bowl screws. A headlamp and a rectangle telescoping mirror made it pretty easy.
As for what I've seen so far, oh boy, the bottom of my fuel bowl looked like a sewer. Sludge. Bike has sat for some years because, well, life happens, and I already have cleaned out the gas tank. I should add that carb has been on bike 20+ years, too. Going to clean all three jets, needle float, main, and idle. Did get bike running but it wouldn't idle, and that's how I found you. Hey Rocco, I have a 98 evo with the same jetting as on the video. I am experiencing a one second flat spot when accelerating from low to mid range and then it kicks in, and no issues in the higher range. S&S says I need to drill out the main jet air bleeder a bit larger to maintain the gas a bit longer before the main jet kicks in, since I have the older model with no jet replacement. But runs great other than that. What do you think, friend? Robert

I opened up the cover for my ss super e carb today due to my bike idling wrong and sounding different and ther was a lot of oil around the filter and in the cover not sure why ther would be oil in ther but it seemed to be coming from some hose that is placed on the quarter inch Allen head screws for the choke placement and I left them ther for the mean time due to me not knowing if it was a part that was meant to be on ther and would be crucial for the motor if I removed them ....but on your video I see no sign of those hose or oil in your carb so I’m just wondering how the hell would oil get up in ther is that normal or did some dumbass just spill oil in the carb and forgot to clean ? I just got the bike a few months ago and never been in a ss super e carb so I was clueless but I’m quite sure ther shouldn’t be oil in ther? ...am I correct or is the oil on the inside ther to make a good seal for air filter ?

    • @TwoWheelRocco

I think the guy here having all the trouble with his Sportster carburetor sounds like he’s got bad vacuum leak somewhere with all that backfiring he’s got air coming in somewhere mine did that and it was a blown head gasket and it idled beautifully you would’ve never known until I felt some thing hot hit the side of my leg when I was wearing shorts it was a gas and oil

Yes that is definitely a possibility I've seen it before. Look for signs of oil. Thank you for your input and your sub David. Ride safe and have a great day.

Hello sir, I have a 2005 AIH Legend with an S&S 117, this may be non-related, but I am having issues with the bike popping then dying while riding. Bike starts out fine, it runs at idle fine but once I take it out it pops then dies between 2nd and 3rd, once that happens, I can kick into 2nd and restarts and keeps going. Have you ever heard of that happening? What is your personal opinion on possible problems? Thank you so very much for your time!

Happy to help. I will look at the quality of the gas and the Petcock.. Look in your tank and see how it looks lotta times they will be rusty. Let us know how it works out. But that's where I would start. Thank you for watching and your support Fabiano. Ride safe and have a great day.

@@fabianobrasil5062 You never told me how does inside the gas tank look? Move the Petcock. and see how it looks. Test by draining some gas into a cup and see how that gas looks. That's where I would start. Fuel supply. If you want send me a cell number and I will get in touch with you.

@@TwoWheelRocco Hi, I am about to do that tomorrow. The bike was working fine but with a little popping out of the exhaust every so often. I took the air filter out to check out the condition of it and it was nasty so I decided to change the air filter, fuel filter and assumed it would not be a bad idea to get a new carburetor. The day I had it done, I took the bike out for an hour run and it worked perfect. The next day is when the issues started. Once the rpm goes up a bit from 2nd to 3rd the bike would choke, pop and die. I spoke with a couple different mechanics and they all have their own opinion on what is going on but no one had mentioned bad gas or something in my tank. I will be draining the tank tonight. Something else that did happened is that the mechanic at the shop I took the bike exchanged my fuel filter( that was a day old) for another one without letting anyone know. He placed one that was similar to the one I bought but didn't tell anyone about it. So now, I am not sure if that filter is the problem. I am pretty sure the issue is in between the tank, filter or petcock. But I will let you know tomorrow. Thank you again

Happy to help. They are brass, can be a little stubborn, Sometimes it doesn't remove that easy, I'd rather use vice grips and remove. You don't won't to break the top of the jet.. Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching and all your support Dino. Ride safe and have a great day.

Ok, got it to idle, but when I do the s&s tuning recommendation It chokes out with a throttle blip, and runs bad under load. When I adjust the accelerator pump last it doesn’t seem to be changing anything,

you like the slow idle potato sound....on the video it sounded like the idle was just a wee bit too low...like 850 or 900rpm....i`m just going by the video and i`m not there beside you but start up idle should be max 1000rpm...its an awful thing when you have to take off the air filter again etc etc and set up the idle screw again....again just goin by the video and sounds etc etc....still thanks !!!
