    Excellent video...and on-par with my experience. Got quotes from Pella & Anderson & a local company. P & A bids were initially $80,000 for 26 windows. We were horrified. They both went down to $40,000...weird. A local independent guy said he would install windows for $150 each if we purchase ALL of the materials....so tempting, but...... We have a lot of renovations to do to this house and I've got sticker shock about the cost of EVERYTHING. UGH! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It's invaluable to know what an honest price is for these things.

    This was really good info. Thank you. In my case, I live in a small townhouse, and I have only 3 windows and 2 patio doors. I only need to replace 2 of the windows. The 2 larger ones. I wonder if besides your list of things that drive the price higher, is also how many or how few windows you need to be installed? I also worry about finding quality companies to buy the windows from as I find it difficult to find good reviews on any of them near where I live in Staten Island, NY. It's like secret information. The reviews I find are not good. . I already know the windows I want and not everyone sells them. Windsor Pinnacle casements. I hear stories of even the top window companies subcontracting their installations instead of their actual employees. Any input on your part would be highly appreciated. Thanks again

      Hi there,
      My name is Caroline and I just watched your video-10:45 pm on the 15th.
      I’m from Edmonton. I’m not as challenged with shopping for patio doors as I am trying to find an installer.
      As I’ve learned from other renovation projects, I eventually find materials within my budget but it takes a lot more research to find an installer who will accept a project at a fair price.
      One example was when I went through home services at Home Depot. The one project was a simple install of mirrored sliding doors. I took the old bifold sand hardware out and measured the space. I got the doors on sale for about $120 and I took pictures. The first quote was $300 and took him days to get back to me. On the third day I got a second quote the second quote was $100. I took the second company and he had the job done in about 30 minutes. Everything was cleaned up and he was extremely polite.
      I won’t bore you with price ranges for labour on bathroom reno or deck quotes except there shouldn’t be thousands of dollars difference for the same project. I did complain to the company about the bathroom quote and I got my money back for what was supposed to be a complimentary assessment.
      So I would love to seek out some decent companies who can make a profit while gaining a loyal customer. Word of mouth is still important, especially in an older neighborhood like Kenilworth.

      @@carod5291any window from Lowe's or home Depot would be like be like ordering them from Temu or Wish? No reputable window installer is going to work with lowes or home Depot. If your house is older then 10 years old every window opening won't be the EXACT same size

    Would like to get your input on who makes a better impact window vinyl. PGT or Simonton?

    • @replacementwindowsreviews
      @replacementwindowsreviews  Před 5 měsíci

      Sorry, I just saw this. Both companies make lots of window series so it's not as cut and dry an answer as it might first appear. I think PGT makes a better impact window, although Simonton's StormBreaker Plus is a good option as well. I think my short answer is they are pretty much on par with one another. Now if we had a specific series from each to compare, my answer would definitely change!

    • @tampajim100
      @tampajim100 Před 5 měsíci

      @@replacementwindowsreviews I was looking at simonton stormbreaker plus vs PGT Winguard PGT vinyl windows. My understanding is that they are both quality windows, but the simonton's stern breaker plus or somewhat bulky. It appears that PGT gives you more glass in terms of view.

    I’m in New York City, one of the most expensive cities for hiring contractors. Just wondering if it’s possible to do one or two windows in a year? Would it cause a lot of mass after the installation so I’ve to clean up all the mess every year? The reason why I’m thinking about this is that under the Inflation Reduction Act, I can only get 2 to 3K tax credit each year for up to 10 years.

    • @replacementwindowsreviews
      @replacementwindowsreviews  Před měsícem

      Many companies will have a minimum number of windows, but often it is like 4. And this makes sense because they have to drive the crew out, set up, clean up, etc. It's kind of an economy of scale deal for many companies. The good thing is you can call up most window companies and just ask what their minimum is - they should be happy to let you know!

    • @MarcoChu-ge4ui

    • @replacementwindowsreviews

      We don't really tackle the Philippines -- but you want to find a window that will post its performance data. Look for a window with an air infiltration rate below 0.10 and a U-value at 0.30 or less. These two simple data points should indicate the "baseline" for a good vinyl window. Then make sure to google the company doing the installation and make sure they have good reviews.
