I met Todd on my 21st birthday. He was playing in my hometown that night, and I bumped into him in a mall near the venue. I noticed a really skinny guy who was wearing bright red pants, and it was Todd. I worked up my nerve, and approached him to let him know how much his music meant to me. He was the first rock star I ever met, and he couldn't have been nicer. That was 42 years ago, and I still have the newspaper that he autographed for me.

I love that story. I’ve been a fan that long too but had not met him until a few years ago. And he is still as kind & humble as ever. At least with his fans!I hope we get to see him again soon.

    THE Renaissanse Man of R&R.
An astonishingly active, productive, and varied career. Broadly talented and fearless in his career of constantly changing it up with a plethora of accomplishments. Why he wasn't inducted decades ago is beyond me, and I have yet to find ANYONE who can articulate the reason why.

I was at his concert at The Palace Theater in Canton, Ohio the night before the induction. He was in great voice and did an outstanding show along with his fabulous band. I grew up in the area and saw Todd come thru Ohio with his Ra tour back in the 70s. Bought so many of his albums back in the day. I sort of lost track of him until the last couple of years I have learned to love all his music up till present. This concert I travelled from North Carolina where I now live and it was a bucket list item for me. So special to see him at this stage of our lives, he’s 3 years older then I am and I absolutely love Todd, his music, his personality. I adore him! Thank you Todd for all your brilliance, hard work and humor that you bring to your fans. Long live Todd!

No. He didn’t go because he knew it was a JOKE!
He should have been there within the first couple years the doors opened.
He did not accept their request, induction or even the trophy.
All this is clearly evident by his mention of it at the end of the video clip they showed.

    Todd is Godd.
    Thats it. Thats All.
(We dont need award shows to tell us that)
As for the Hall of Fame weird & generally unhelpfull rivalry award shows spawn, good for Todd to refuse to buy into it. Cause we see online now where that leads.
I've been into Todd since we were both kids. He set the rock music bar high for me. But as an oldster, for the past few years ive gotten into kpop, specifically NCT127, based on their expansive (toddworthy) franchise concept, talents, skillsets & the overall EXCELLENCE & ENERGY of the projects they generate. These kpop kids train like olympians and their showmanship is next level.
Unfortunately, to a lifelong loyal Toddfan. the entire structure of KPOP FANDOMS is true madness. It incites online warefare in a toxic militerization that far exceeds anything i experienced even as a teenage Beatle maniac.
Yeah yeah yeah I followed The Beatles. But Kpop fandom takes idolitry WAY further. It demands the self assignment of committing to a "BIAS" for your fav kpop idol or group or company and that lunacy plays out in the Coliseum of korean music shows where kpop groups battle to claim small lucite trophies. I'm not sure most kpop fans even hear every song on these exceptional albums cause ONLY the title track is judged and not based on its true quality but on excessive fan STREAMING and not to LISTEN to good music or WATCH amazingly produced MVs buy ONLY to rack up the highest stats on how MANY times the song gets played.
This may be going on with stateside musicians too but im not aware of the same degree of bloodthirsty rivalry or the toll it takes. This continous competing is beyond anthing I've see in a lifetime of pop music. It is distructive & exhausting to both idols & their fans. The pursuit of charts & stats over appreciation & artistry pits gifted kpop idols against even the members of their own groups. The harsh comparison & ranking NEVER stops not even for an hour or a day
And the ruthlessness of that relentless compitition extends to taking down.a rivals reputation through false smears & cyberbully that has driven several of these talented young idols to suicide.
And as dangerous as that is. Even scarier is the POWER of kpop fandoms given their predispotion to lockstep blindly.follow whick has been infultrated & at times weaponized to disceminste social & political propaganda & unrest.
To any free thinking TODD fan the fandoms in kpop are absolutely insane.
In light of...all that...Todd's refusal to be defined by what he's WON as opposed to what he's DONE is even more exemplary.

I agree with Todd. I don’t like award shows that much either or competitions especially when it comes to music because music is totally different than sports. Sports is all about competition. Music is an art. I was forced to compete as a musician growing up and it just didn’t feel right. But I had no idea that the fans really have no power in voting for the inductees until Todd brought it up. Wow. I voted for the first time ever this year and thought the fans were part of the process.

  • @twistedviewlabs
    @twistedviewlabs Před 2 lety +2

Todd freaking nails it as per usual. Seriously, I don't base my opinion of what talent is based on things like Awards and album sales. Some of my my favorite bands have been universally ignored by critics and the masses alike, and personally I don't care. Huge Todd fan (obviously, if I'm here watching this) but I'm also a huge fan of Sparks, Jellyfish (actually, anything related to Roger Joseph Manning Jr. He's definitely my generation's Todd Rundgren full stop). While I'm happy he's there as a fan...even if he wasn't, it wouldn't change my opinion of him as a true artist and I wouldn't be a lesser fan for it either. He's definitely been and continues to be an influence of mine (even if I'm just a drummer). I respect his decision and can't wait for his new album in 2022. I still need to see him live.

Todd has never cared about anything but making music...either his own or others as a producer and engineer. But damn, if he didn't give my high school rock and roll band almost an entire set of stuff to play for people. Thanks, Todd. Love the rock, love the ballads, loved Nazz, Wizard, Something/Anything all the way to White Night. I mean, anybody who can write and record "I went to the mirror this morning" is Zappa level creative.

Also looked like a Montreal Canadian or Chicago Blackhawk player poster right behind him....And he tells it like it is, RnR HoF is a weird place, with even weirder people running it.... Rap and Hip Hop is not RnR, so it's about sales and shit like that....Todd stated at a Berkeley commencement, If asked he will not run; if elected he will not serve! He's true to his word!!!

Better eyes than me, Todd was in front of Bobby Hull the whole time from my viewing point...Good deduction! Yea cycles in Sports, My BLUES are exceeding the experts claims and can hang with them all most of the game. It will be tougher in the Playoffs, we need to get well, and have Bennington at top form....Blackhawks will return to competitiveness...Not saying I don't love it now though.. Wow. This vid is a marvel of technical advancement. I especially enjoy the Artificial Intelligence voices behind the camera.
The hall of fame is a frat boys club. Steve Tyler pisses all over Joe Rogan's table, and everybody makes a joke out of the side of their mouth while applauding the "genius" who wore a g-string until he was forty, and meanwhile nobody can help him to shut off his ADHD because it sells records. Todd Rundgren kept himself out of the public spectacle for decades, and amassed a trove of immense personal achievement that Tyler can never hope to achieve, and it's astounding that very few Normy people know this. Greatness cannot be measured by that tape measure clipped to your belt buckle -- although the tape measure sure comes in handy when you're trying to squeeze your ego into a limousine while the flashes are popping.
Todd's fans truly got the award they disturbed, and that's sad.
