GOOD AND BAD! iPad Mini 6 vs iPad Air 4

  • Should you buy the iPad Mini 6 or the iPad Air 4? Which iPad is a better value? This is the iPad Mini 6 - and it sort of looks like someone took an iPad Air 4 and shrunk it down. Other than the size, there are important differences when it comes to the display, the cameras, processing power and accessories, both are extremely powerful and there is about a $100 difference in terms of price - so which one is actually better?
    While the design elements are quite similar, the size is clearly the most obvious differentiator. The iPad Mini sports an 8.3” display while the iPad Air 4 has a noticeably bigger 10.9” display. Putting aside the features and benefits I’m going to cover throughout this video, the Mini is clearly a lighter and more portable device. It’s also great to game on because of the smaller form factor, so it’s really comfortable to hold and at the same time, it definitely feels bigger than a phone..

    Thanks for this super useful video. I agree: the most important deciding factor is to know what you'll use it for - as I have a 16" MacBook Pro for whenever I need a larger screen or to work, I now realise that for reading and browsing purposes the mini 6 is much more suitable as one can see a compact screen better than a significantly larger 11" screen on which your eyes would need to go up-and-down, making it less comfortable.

    The Mini feels like it was built for the post-pandemic era that's not quite here. If you're frequently reading or playing games on a train or at the coffee shop, it's great! But I'm still spending most of my time indoors, and it's tough to justify such a high price on a screen when I already have so many around me. And the 64GB is ridiculous for the price of 500 bucks!

    • @MyVidMix
      @MyVidMix Před 2 lety +30

      The Mini 5 is perfect for lying on your back (UAG case with front flap cut off + 3 point elastic iPad back strap). If I was doing desk work, then the Air/11/12.9.
      Or to over generalise:
      Back = Mini
      Lap = Air or 11.
      Desk = 12.9

    Thank you for this! As a college student who don't know much about tech & just buy one without much thought your reviews are really quite helpful to me. I also decided to get Macbook Air M1 over my initial choice of Macbook Pro M1 because of your past video reviews. I thought having no fan will give it a huge disadvantage but it didn't seem to be the case. I got the 512gb Macbook Air & it is still cheaper than the 256gb Pro and it works well & I'm happy w/ it. So you help me save some money. Thanks.
    Now I want to buy a new Ipad for reading so I was originally going for the Ipad Air 4 but I think you just convince me again to just go for the Ipad Mini instead. I wasn't planning to used the Ipad for typing or doing any of my projects & works anyway as that is what a Macbook is for. I really just plan to used it for reading documents or pdfs and maybe some CZcams viewing & light gaming (though I don't really like gaming) and it looks like the Ipad Mini suits me more. I have the iPad Air 4 10.9” display with the magic keyboard and based on daily (heavy) usage I really love it. I use it for basically everything (some apps that I heavily use are Notes, Procreate, iMovie, Numbers and Keynote, with a few games here and there). However in my experience since my iPad is literally with me 24/7 indoors or outdoors, it gets pretty heavy especially when I go out and it’s the only thing that keeps my bag weigh like a concrete brick all the time. I see myself getting an iPad Mini 6 solely for “outdoor” purposes (going to work, cafe lounging and stuff) while keeping my iPad Air 4 for indoor use in the future.

For someone like myself with a powerful desktop PC and a works laptop the mini 6 makes perfect sense. It allows me to browse web, reply to emails and carry out basic photo and video editing a lot more comfortably than using my phone without have to sit in front of PC, simply lighter and more convenient than air. This is one of the better reviews of these products thank you very much. Many other reviews tend to focus on how seemingly useless the iPad Air 4 is, purely in relation to specs. However, as you mentioned very clearly, a person's use case scenario is really what differentiates the two devices.

    If you are an artist, student, or someone who would use an iPad similarly to a laptop I would 100% recommend the iPad Air 4. I have it and it is so awesome! I don’t think that the mini is big enough to draw or take notes comfortably on. The iPad airs larger screen is awesome for watching videos. I also have the magic keyboard which turned the iPad into a laptop for me. I love it and I have a lot of videos about it on my CZcams channel.

    This is a great video and as much as I love the idea of the iPad mini, I think that iPad Air 4 is going to suit my needs better. No I’m just hoping that 64 GB is going to be enough because that’s what I can afford. I’m going to be using it for content consumption, streaming online content and media, taking some notes, reading and some sketching. Also playing a few good games. I think 64 should be good, I also have tons of iCloud storage.

    Watched this on my new Air 4 which I got a couple days ago. For me, the larger the display, the better. Also, I actually think that playing games on a larger display, especially a racing game, is actually better and preferable; at least, I prefer a larger display for gaming myself.

    Oh geez. This is such a good video. The part where you demonstrated what it’s like for FaceTime on both devices side by side, sound as well just blew my mind. It wasn’t a comparison I needed but that you provided that for those who do need it is just fantastic !!!
    Any chance you could give me your input here?
    I have the iPad Air 4. I have the iPad mini 4. Use the mini for reading but interested in upgrading. I would only use the new mini for reading. Won’t need 256gb. My mini 4 is 128gn and my book library is big but not even 10gb lol. I’m still unsure if I should upgrade or why upgrade when I can keep using the mini 4. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 I would continue to play some games and procreate on the air. I mostly stream on my iPhone with a new one on the way 😬

    If the Mini 6 existed when I got the Air 4 in January, would have probably went with it over the Air 4 since the favourite iPad of the past was the Mini 2 over their larger counterparts. But, the Air 4 is still wonderful and there is a good benefit of screen size for watching content.
    Depending on how money goes, there might be some consideration of getting a purple Mini 6 to take everywhere in a bag because of the form factor since taking an Air 4 everywhere does feel kind of chonky. But at the same time right now, saving up money for the iPhone 13 Pro Max with a higher end storage option so getting someone like a Mini 6 after having an Air 4 can really wait.

    This is the video that iv been looking for…. I totally agree that ipad mini lacks keyboard supoort which is lacking to what i need. Im more into a typing person for my productivity in my ipad. Also the bigger screen makes me satisfied for the contents im viewing, like watching movies. Maybe, the mini isnt for me because of the lack-of keyboard support and smaller screen. My bags fits the ipad air4. Most bags are comatible with 11” gadgets so thats okey for travelling plus the thin form factor of the magic keyboard. Thank God i chabged from ipad air4. From my previous air3 model…

    I’ve been on the fence between the iPad mini and the iPad Air for some time. In college, I had the iPad mini (the oldest version), then found it extremely lacking because I needed to use my iPad for textbook and note taking at the time. I ended up getting the iPad Air 3. But now that I no longer need it to function as a study aid, I admit that the only thing I use my iPad for is watching CZcams, reading fanfiction, and playing games. Normally, I’d stick with what I have because that’s good enough, but because my iPad Air is now on its way out (it broke lol), I’m considering switching back over to iPad mini
