That casual moment when you out preform Micheal Jordan. Can’t tell you how many times that happened to me.
So relatable

@@ebrown112 is your name actually spelled Eriq!?
This is obviously super impressive but you can’t compare a guy jumping pretty far to Jordan winning 6 rings

You have to appreciate that Total Running Productions has such a desire for all of Track and Field! If you like Track and Field...this has to be your favorite CZcams-Channel!!!
So true🙌❤️
You talking about the channel that doesn't recognize Soviet Union?
I don't even like track & field.. or I didn't.. This is great!
I heard that Carl Lewis ones said: "if I have had the technique of Emmiyan I would easyly jump 9 meters".
Then how far would Robert Emmiyan jump if he had the speed of Carl Lewis ?
@@wilhelmw3455 💀
Yea but it’s like the least possible aerodynamic position humanly possible.
But yea he coulda prolly dunked from the freekin 3 point line
Carl Lewis was a cheating liar and would never had said something so gracious.
Robert Emmiyan was my inspiration in my long jumping years: as I didn't have massive speed (only once I did I run sub-13 seconds on the 100m), I always strived to stay in the air for as long as I could manage. I remember putting a couple of hurdles over the sand pit and the high jump bar across them to work on that (before I got myself a coach who steered me towards less antisocial forms of training...). Got a few county titles with that...
Crazy to think that running world records are constantly being improved yet long jump hasn’t gone forward in 30 years.
I think it’s money. in other words sponsorship is very hard to come by for jumping. Look at Running, all distances , recently long distance , it’s workable . Ppl actually run or could run if they want ….hence the shoes, shorts , singlets, t-shirts, caps, sleeves, nutrition …etc. Some sports just naturally wait for generational talents.
Because athletes aren't juicing as much nor is the cheating detection as bad as in the 80s. 😂

There must be some upper limit to human ability. We may be at or near those limits in many events. It may be that the limit was approached sooner in the long jump than other events. Of course I'm sure people thought the same way back in 1968.
well, a couple of things holding it back....I do think other sports like Football and basketball due to the financial potential sway a lot of athletes away from track and field........so, most likely there was someone who we will never know of that could have come close to these records..
To Jump 29 ft without the Midair Hitchkick Technique is Absolutely INCREDIBLE !!!...
I actually just et Bob Beamon over the phone a couple weeks ago. His longtime friend/attorney introduced me to him. He was very nice to me.
Как он красиво прыгал. Завораживающе. Имела счастье видеть его прыжки
Legend.....
Another stunning video from TRP, thank you!
Thank you for posting this amazing feat.
Супер, как будто от мостика отталкивался. Каждый шаг в разбеге был, как будто сейчас взлетит=)
That's my favorit style
I love these videos so much. They motivate me to try to recover from long covid and challenge myself in different ways. I set my goals reasonably (a lot) below professional athletes and think it's fun to work towards them.
These videos inspire me to find new ways to improve.
Nice to see Emmiayan again - I remember seeing some of these jumps and reading about them in HS. I would be curious to see them calculate Mike Powell, Carl Lewis and Beamons hang times as well
Great video. Thx a million
Beautiful Hang Technique! almost 1 second in the air

Can you make a video about Simon Ehammer the decathlete who won a long jump medal at the worlds this year and reached the highest ever single event score within a decathlon?
Jackie Joyner has scored higher in Long Jump on the womens side, but yes, he has that record for the men.
@@Dave-lr2wo he did come in second at this year's European championships with close to 8500 pts, so he's quite good at the very least.
Thanx for this vid, I have never heard of this guy until this vid and didn't realize he belonged to this exclusive club......GO ARMENIA!
Nice video information. I like your video😍❤
Your video content is very good.
That day in Mexico '68 is still etched in my mind
I was 12 then and remember Bimon's jump still. It's pity that I did not see Robert although was living with him in one republic.
This guy just looks crazy like he's Swan diving towards the pit so sick
Yes I think so
Yessss my idol🤩
Good research, congratulations!
I agree with you
Why hasn't long jump performance progressed like in other events?
Because OVER 28 FEET YZ💩🦇 kuhRAYzee‼️
So true
Robert Emmiyan is a legend. So sad about the earthquake in armenia later in his life
Yeah :(
That earthquake, which killed several members of his family, including his father, was devastating to him, and reportedly affected his athletic performance (for the worse, btw).
That indeed happened to him “later in life”, in fact, a year and a half after his greatest jump, when he was 23 years old. Had it not happened, who knows how much longer his career could have lasted, or how much farther he might have jumped?
@@LesserMoffHootkins No doubt he would have made a big impact et the 1988 Seoul Olympics
Impressive! Never heard of him. Will you ever do a video about Rojas?
Never heard 😳IDIOT 😅
Does anyone know the name of the song TRP uses towards the end?
Another good video. Short, complete, and to the point. QUESTION: Can you include feet and inches? Plenty of us SAE guys are former T&F athletes and current track junkies. Adding SAE terms makes our sport a little less obscure for the Americans in your audience. BTW, for anyone interested, the hangtime of 0.98 sec indicates a vertical leap of 1.176M or 3'ft10 inches (probably a little lower, as pit is almost always lower than runway...)
Keep the Field coverage coming. More throwing too.
Agreed!
Had dinner w Bob a year ago. He’s looking good still
Carl Lewis should have had that world record! He had jumps disallowed. He dominated this event perhaps as long as anyone else. He was by far the most consistent long jumper.
Inches makes world records. Had he gone to Mexico City during his peak to break the world record, he might well have! Had he focused only on long jumping at his peak like the other three names on the 29 foot club he again may well have broken the world record.
I still believe that Carl Lewis never received the respect he deserved for his track and field achievements. He was a twice daily n a century athlete. Other than Jesse Owens, no one else has dominated long jump and the sprints in the last 100 years.
Agree. He dominated the LJ and won Olympic gold four times in that event. A Herculean feat. . IMO he’s the greatest track and field athlete in history.
When I started the Decathlon I wanted to emulate that hang technique.
These guys: *Jump 8.5+m*
Me: *Struggles to get out of my bed in the morning*🥲😂
Wrong event. The Fosbury flop is the answer to your problem not hang time.

W8W ^^ Very Nice :DDDD
There is not nearly enough emphasis placed on Landing in the long jump. I took my daughter to a college camp and they showed her the proper form but the entire work on her Landing took about 10 minutes and then they moved on. I can show you 20 extremely long jumps from Carl Lewis where he landed with his butt in the sand nearly a foot behind his feet and he almost never landed to where his furthest back point would be equivalent to where his heels should have hit.
It's an insanely difficult balance to achieve but so many of the cycle jumpers don't even come close to achieving the balance between your feet being too far out in front of you or landing prematurely. You know where you can see it? Look at this job and then look at Bob Beamon's jump and you'll see someone with an absolutely perfect landing where he couldn't have gotten another inch out of his form and then you think about what would have happened if he was just six to eight inches off and we would never be talking about this jump
Robert Emmiyan is only 5'10", while Bob Beamon is 6'3"; I think this has alot to do with the difference in the length of their jumps.
What distance would Robert Emmiyan be jumping with an additional 5" in stature?
It's about 3.5 inches. You can calculate this using projectile motion dynamics with inputs for initial velocity, angle of launch, and initial height.
What you are solving for is the distance traveled for an object falling from two different heights. There's one thing that does not change in the long jump, and that is that the ground is always at ground level! Height of center of mass (COM) at takeoff is one of the biggest factors in long jumping at the elite level. The parabola is a function of that height and the takeoff angle. Think essentially of the slightly longer time it takes for a ball to drop off a table if the table is two different heights. Now consider both tables moving at the same speed horizontally. When the shorter table's ball lands, the taller table's ball is still travelling in air. More briefly, a taller athlete starts at a higher point and all athletes fall to the same level. There's zero doubt to me that Emmiyan would have been the likely WR holder if he was above 6' tall. Now think about a jumper with Usain's speed and height of COM...!
@@Dave-lr2wo Mike Powell, and Carl Lewis, both 6'2"
@@christopherbellore3511 I'm not sure exactly of the meaning in your reply?

Oh! Nothing. Just another tidbit of information concerning the aforementioned in the video.
Your point was well taken, and it's obvious that you are scientifically intelligent and interesting. Thanks Dave. 😉👍😊

It isn't very related to track and field but it cites the Bob Beamon jump, I recommend the Jon Bois documentary "the Bob emergency" avaliable on youtube
...Yes - I/we heard of Robert Emmiyan in the 70s. He was a super hybrid athlete and super fast. There are many super athletes from Armenia. For example The wrestlers are super strong - many medal winners in wrestling
If I could jump that far, I would do it!
I'd never even heard of Robert Emmiyan . .
Do videos on the decathlon
Carl Lewis achieved a distance of 8.91 some Minutes before Mike Powell in the same Competition back in 1991.
Yeah, but it was wind-aided, so it doesn't count for world record consideration.
Emmiyan does not appear to stutter step just before the board. That's really the key to long jump- carrying the speed through the jump. Yes he did have the right technique, if not the raw speed.
Robert was the best jumper ever as he’d jumped 9.12 metres but it wasn’t recorded
where do you know about this? :-)
Where can we read about it?
Big Matthew Boling fan?
@@Itstime1231 Hm? That's quite the random question hahaha
😍😍😍😍
I heard that Carl Lewis ones said: "if I have had the technique of Emmiyan I would easyly jump 9 meters".
Sad that the tragedy in Armenia destroyed his athletic performance :(
Same question was asked of Bob Beamon.
When you change the title 😭
Fr.
He was near perfection to watch, maybe the only better was Jonathan Edwards
So what were Beamon's and Powell's hang times.
i dont know much about long jump but it seemed to me like he did very little flailing with his limbs, he stayed still and aerodynamic imo
It is called the hang technique and may be the best technique. The hitch kick is meant to stop the body from rotating forward, If you can hang perfectly you don't need the hitch kick.
🤙
Not a familiar name, that's too bad he had great form in the air. His hang time is unreal.
Mike Powell holds the world record. 8.95m. 2007. Low altitude too.
Do you like or not,the Bob Beeman Record,Will be overshadowed by the fact that was possible because of the altitude of México city. And thats a proven fact.
Its a unique jump in history, yes, but he was the only One present who knew the circunstances of running and jumping in altitude
Why does high altitude benefit long jumpers?
Air density is less!
The film shows that Emmiyan ran with huge strides, and that explains a lot.
The NBA produces perhaps the most unique athletes on Earth…these are human giants who train their bodies to have very little body fat while also maximizing their quickness and thrust. In return, the handful of the best that come out of this competition are rewarded with guaranteed contracts that pay upwards of $50 million dollars per year.
Imagine if the 7’1” Wilt Chamberlain in his prime physical yrs had focused on the long jump or high jump…
Please mention Ivan Pedroso with a 9.03 at the Pan Americanos de Mar de Plata (Argentina) 😮
They need to allow rolling mid-air once again.
It's just much more efficient.
OK...
CARL LEWIS in Indianapolis was called for a scratch (it was debatable), but went about 31 feet! Do your research and check it out! 😱
Make life easier for everyone and link the evidence
🤒 If I get time, I will! It was an indoor meat and I really didn't think he scratched! I was absolutely sick to my stomach for him and I think he got ripped off! 😭
In 1982, he also had one in an outdoor meet that was over 30 ft, also in Indianapolis! 😱
In 1984, I was fortunate enough to see him compete at the LA Olympic Games! 😁
@@ronlowney4700 Yes you were fortunate indeed. If USATF had reported his pre-olympic positive doping test(s), we would not be discussing that cheetah today. CL should be put on the same shelf with Ben Johnson.
Bob Beaman
Metres
You're leaving out the Summersault done in the same era...but was ruled illegal for the long jump afterwards
Emiyan's and Beamon's marks should be "A" marks in the record books...great performances but not as good as Powell's and Lewis's. In the Mexico City games the world record for the triple jump was also smashed showing the altitude affects not just sprinting but the "speed" jumps as well.
Good comment bro😍
Why weren't the other competitors breaking at the very least their own PBs? Cos they were not, not by a long shot.
Beamon had leaped post WR in training before and Emmiyan leapt quite consistently well at every altitude. They were just so good. Height from sea level does nothing to tarnish their feats. Nobody else came close in the same conditions, in Beamon's case not even current world record holders who were out for the gold. Don't forget that Ter-Ovanesyan had jumped 8.50 pre-Mexico in training.
Early
Why would you want to use "29 feet" in the clickbait thumbnail when better units of measurements exist?
Because that's the unit of measurement he usually uses and grew up with? About 300 million people use the imperial system. That's a lot of people.
Also tell me how the thumbnail is clickbait? Did Robert Emmiyan NOT exceed 29 feet in his 8.86m jump?
This is TPR at his best. That being said, make less content. You have the ability to make quite profound videos. However, you make many other videos that are in theory data used to extrapolate that in theory someone can run some insane time. Then make a video saying how we were all wrong with more in theory data. Let the content come to you. And do what you do so well, analyze and marvel at achievements.
If I am not mistaking, I believe Lewis jumped 8.91 🤔
So what🤔
Seems so strange to be seeing someone jumping that far without using a hitch-kick. The hang technique seems so antiquated, almost like watching a high jumper use the "Western roll".
First
first
He looks like an average guy. At first.
Ivan Pedroso should be on that list
The part about the hang time is complete pseudoscience.
First of all, how can you even compare both jumps ? I assume Jordan landed on his feet, what if he tucked in his legs and fell on his ass ? That would have added more time in the air. Emmiyan didn't land straight up so he gained some time there.
You can't compare hang time without proper rules.
And second, the hang time in the long jump really doesn't change much, whether you jump 5m or 7m or 9m, your hang time will be approximately the same. The only difference is the speed at wich you are flying through the air.
Basically every long jumper, from beginner to pro spends about the same time in the air, obviously there are some differences based on height and speed etc...but in general, it really doens't change much. And it doesn't really matter either, you can spend more time in the air and jump less far if you jump too high.
Well maybe but….there is the theory that, along with him jumping at altitude (8000 feet), prior to Beamon’s record the air was ionized due to a thunderstorm that arrived minutes after his record jump, thus electrifying the atmosphere. That said, I still think it’s one of the greatest athletic performances in all of sport. (Source: “The Perfect Jump” -Dick Schaap)
Let's not overlook the fact that this occurred in Eastern Europe in the 1980's. Well established record of using PEDs.
Not everyone was on PEDs. Plus the roids back then were overrated.
Bruh did you just forget Bob Beamon existed?? What is this? Emmiyan is one of FOUR people to break 29 feet, the FOURTH longest jump ever. Bob Beamon is the one who destroyed the record by a record margin. Powell only beat Beamon’s record by 5cm.
Pretty bad to not even mention Ivan Pedroso who jumped a legal 8.96m
Why isnt Pedroso the WR holder?
Wind was legal, jump was legal on the board...
Prize for breaking a world record that day was a brand new car.... corruption at its peak.
But its a legal jump with legal conditions so how this guy making the videos doesnt know this or mention him, its a really lazy bit of research and disrespectful to the real WR holder, even Mike Powell accepts that Ivan jumped further and has said it in interviews.
This channel has a video about Pedroso’s long jump.
You are right. It is very strange not the mention Ivan Pedroso
No it doesn’t count because Ivan’s record was obstructed because a idiot was standing in front of the wind gauge that’s why it’s not a WR
Even if it’s with legal wind
