  • I was invited over by GoodFabs (goodfabs.com) who are well known for their F1 work to check out their first offering in the motorcycle world. Very impressed with their engineering. If you have an Africa Twin and want to discuss their system, contact them on info@goodfabs.com. As always, I'm not affiliated or sponsored by them or anyone for that matter, but I’m excited to see another high quality manufacturer entering the market. You can see this system on the Dyno here: • Dyno Testing Titanium ...

    When I order up an AT Adventure Sports, it will need a system like this. Coming from the Ducati world, whatever I ride has to have a great exhaust note. The 270-degree firing interval with the system demo’d here sounds pretty wicked.

    Lovely bike. I'd seen people travel around the world with the old Africa Twin, and I personally loved the new Africa Twin that Honda made. Well I'm still a bit too young for the CRF1000 (Africa Twin) so I was thinking of starting with the New CRF 250 Rally 2017. Then move to the Africa Twin when I'm mature enough to afford one in the future. Thank you for this video RJ :D

    RJ I don't know if you remember but I asked you about whether you thought a remap was needed. I ham happy to report there are now a couple choices for tuning. I picked up a fuel manager from a company called Dimsport. It automatically adjusts without a second module and is much cheaper than other options that do the same. We'll see how well it works.

      +Robert Johnstone ... there's always one...
      V-twin _heritage_ sound.
      The original Africa Twin was a V-twin...the new Africa Twin has a 270-degree crank to aid in recapturing that original _heritage_ sound.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket Před 6 lety +1

      360° crankpin arrangement on a p-twin would be even-firing, just like removing the center two cylinders on an i-4.
      180° crankpin arrangement on a p-twin would be raspy, more popular in smaller engines like a Kawasaki Z650.
      270° crankpin arrangement on a p-twin has the same firing order of a Ducati, pins separated by 90°. Hence the pleasing rumble.
      What's more telling about any given multi-cylinder engine configuration is the separation between the crankpins (assuming they aren't sharing the same pin). You can have a boxer twin (like BMW) and p-twin producing the exact same tone because the firing order is the exact same, regardless of the direction the cylinders are pointing.
      The same principle applies between p-twins and V-twins. You can achieve identical firing order between a Ducati L-twin and a parallel, by phasing the crankpins 90° apart on the p-twin, or simply splitting the cylinders 90° apart and keeping the same crank pin. Engine balance is different between them, but the timing of the pulses leaving the exhaust system are identical.

    Sounds reminiscent of the RC51's 1 liter V-Twin. I wish Honda would bring that bike back in small production by using this motor and increasing the compression just a tad and modifying the timing. Maybe even de-stroking and boring the pistons a bit for a sportier power curve. Even if it had just 125hp, it would be such a lovable bike.

    Such a beautiful bike.. I test rode one today it was the automatic version - Kind of weird tbh, but I can see the benefit of it, though i wouldnt want it.. Its just too weird not being able to shift.. - I feel like I could ride for a week on this bike everyday houndreds and houndreds of KM's, and i'd be comfortable as all.. It feels like it weighs _nothing_ . The only downside imo was the screen.. it made alot of windnoise, but I'm sure that could be fixed..

    Great video. Looks like the 998cc motor has more than enough power, which was one of my concerns with this bike. Still would love Honda to make a 1200cc 25L fuel capacity version and I would not even look at any other brand. It would own the market for big adventure tourers.
