Lyrics:
It seems so long ago
Nancy was alone
Looking at the Late Late show
Through a semi-precious stone
In the House of Honesty
Her father was on trial
In the House of Mystery
There was no one at all
There was no one at all
It seems so long ago
None of us were strong;
Nancy wore green stockings
And she slept with everyone
She never said she'd wait for us
Although she was alone
I think she fell in love for us
In nineteen sixty one
In nineteen sixty one
It seems so long ago
Nancy was alone
A forty five beside her head
An open telephone
We told her she was beautiful
We told her she was free
But none of us would meet her in
The House of Mystery
The House of Mystery
And now you look around you
See her everywhere
Many use her body
Many comb her hair
And In the hollow of the night
When you are cold and numb
You hear her talking freely then
She's happy that you've come
She's happy that you've come - Hudba
"The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth" - Ecclesiastes
*eye roll* The original emo kid. I'd rather be dumb and happy.
@@ray-mc-l Don't be listening to one of Leonard Cohen's saddest songs then.
Nancy was my aunt. I get a very sad feeling when I listen to this song. It's a beautiful song but a sad story.
Leonard erected a monument to her with this song.
Listening to this after getting rejected for the hundredth time. Thank you Leonard.
Poor, suffered, lost young soul ... Rest in peace Nancy, you are not forgotten and you'll never be. You will always live with us when we listen or sing your song :)
She has a book coming out called “Autobiography of a rock star” she is actually a much better performer than Leonard and she was 12 years old in 1961.
Mélancolie déchirante, absolue. Douleur et douceur mêlées, supportables ainsi.
Beautiful song, one of my favourites.🎧🎼🎵🎶❤️
This song is so precious and delightful... And the warm voice of Leonard Cohen makes it even more wonderful 🥰❤️
Listen to "The Partizan", please 🙂 Not written by Sir Cohen (the only one song sung by him, but not his) but wonderful anyway ❤
@@albertlluisvila1251fantastic song that is alright.👌
Magic
Simplicity
Goes through
The bones....
And let nothing
Behind..
A touch from
Master cohen
My favorite song of all time.
Nancy is the Fat Nancy that Bob Dylan mentions in highwater
I asked Fat Nancy for something to eat and she said “Take it off the shelf. As great as you are man you will never be greater than yourself” I told her I didn’t really care.
For a good song about her listen to Chip Taylor’s “Angel of the Morning”
She has a book coming out called “Autobiography of a rock star” she is actually a much better performer than Leonard and she was 12 years old in 1961.
Astonishing
❤Quanto tempo è passato dalla prima volta che l ho ascoltata avevo 18 anni ora me ho 73 ma è come se la sentissi con lo stesso spirito di allora
I sing this song for the soon-to-be-Nancies in my life, whenever I encounter them. Folks, reach out to your friends. Keep them alive. Keep them out of songs like these.
I lost a cousin to suicide. My heart sank when hearing this song, and learning the story behind it.
This man was so fucking beautiful.
She has a book coming out called “Autobiography of a rock star” she is actually a much better performer than Leonard and she was 12 years old in 1961.
It has been my'precious' since I first heard it ages ago. However, the first was 'Bird on a wire'-unforgettable.
Bellissima anche la versione italiana di F. De André
SUPEEER!!! 👉❤👈🎤🎤. Thank you!! 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
Très beau...
Sweet Nancy 💔
Wow. I just found out Nancy was blogger Tim Challies' aunt. He talks about her in one of his blog. So sad.
I really enjo this
The most haunting and terrifying melody that I've ever heard.
You crave for an explanation, but in truth, for the welfare of your four wall security, you dread ever being told the answer.
Malz Cuatro the house of mystery..

I agree. The only other melody I can think of that is almost as haunting as this one is Rook by XTC.
There are many more woman that live in terror than most man will ever want to know.
hors concours!
❤
Keşke bu şarkıları dinleyecek seviyeye hiç gelmeseydim.
♡♡♡
Leonard Cohen, it's like licking honey from a knife...
..............Okay, this comment is genuinely underrated.
When one comes to think of yes. Your comment is bang on.
😌
Omg I love this song 💕
R.I.P
❤️🎼
There was no one at all...
That was not true. Leonard is a liar. I don’t even know what he is suggesting by the house of mystery. I have always been with her in the house of love and there is plenty of mystery there. She has a book coming out called “Autobiography of a rock star” she is actually a much better performer than Leonard and she was 12 years old in 1961.

For Sarka B. 💔
You're left with deciding whether she died or continued to be a prostitute.
And he knows he could never fulfill her enough to know the hole in her soul, yet he remained the one waiting for her - regardless of whether she's dead or continued to be a prostitute.
